Postcards From Far Away project | Previous pre-delivery discussion (thread closed)

i'm making both of my cards because my uni town and my hometown are too small and boring to merit postcards. the first one is an old siggy of mine on here, a george bush political thing with a violet hill lyric that i think chris would like. my second is going to be butterfly-filled with another lyric on it (yet to be decided).

i'm a bit iffy on what i'm actually going to WRITE, since i want it to be as original as possible and not mushy and generic, but i'm having issues. i started to write things that i might like to say and it was really sappy and bleh. i have to think more.

btw.. sweet avatar!

so wouldnt that make it only 5 days?

we must have an address by november 1. otherwise i think some people might get in hot water in some countries :uhoh:

EDIT: thanks lore

if its 10 working days to set up a PO Box, we've had 5 so far. So this week will be another 5. Its likely to be next week before we get an address, unless the Royal Mail get a move on.

:bigcry:

this is so frustrating!!!!!! :bomb:

hi guys..

good idea with the postcards, i'm in.

just tell me what i have to do :)

Uhh ya I know, I cant take it anymore:P Well at least it will give me more time to figure out what I still want to do for my postcards!!!!

I love this idea and I really want to send Coldplay a postcard but I'm really confused and I've only sent one postcard before, that was years ago. So where exactly do you buy them? I'm guessing your local post office? If you were to make your own don't you need special paper to print them out? What is the size of the logo supposed to be? Also, where exactly does the logo go? Front, back, which corner? So confused maybe if someone has theirs done they could post it here, would be really grateful :)

I probably won't buy a postcards and all the required stamps until an address has been confirmed because I dont want to waste money on something that might not get sent :P

i have a pretty good idea on what i'm doing for my postcards...... i actually started working on one of them already :nice:

is the 'what-the-hell-i'm-gonna-write' part that i'm lost in........... :\

I know, I dont know what im going to write either. Ill probably think of something last minute like I always do though;)

Oh quick question, if we are going to use one of the postcard templates on the first page. How do you think we go about printing that out?:\

it's hard to say where you buy postcards--usually at touristy or famous places. they're hard to find, usually, if you're not in a big city or at a tourist attraction, which is why lots of people are just making both of their postcards.

you can make your own postcards easily by printing/drawing/gluing stuff to any 4X6 in (10X15 cm) card. it doesn't have to be on any special paper; you can even cut down a piece of thick paper to that size and print on it. it's really easy.

once we know which logo we're using, we'll probably then determine what size would be best and post it here in this thread (though you can really use whichever one you want). it should be small, probably no bigger than two inches. some of the logos are VERY big, which makes that hard, so it might be best to use the one everyone voted on.

basically, stick the logo anywhere you want on the card or wherever you can fit it, either on the front or on the back. just make sure it's not covering up the address or where the stamp goes.

really, just go to google images and search "postcard." we're just sending normal postcards--the only thing different is that we would like the logo on it SOMEWHERE :D

if they're not the correct size already, resize the templates to 4X6 inches (10X15 cms) using paint or photoshop or something. you can print them out on ANY card of that size. i've been using 4X6 inch index cards. just set your printer settings to print on that size paper and voila.

ok, NEXT monday, i meant. if we don't have something then, we need to scurry to find a plan B. i'm thinking of perhaps shooting debs a little email to just ask if she's STARTED to set up the PO box (if she hasn't, we're screwed) and as a "don't forget about us" note, but i feel bad nagging because she's being so nice to us :\

Thank you so much ApproximatelyInfinite!!! Ya I was wondering how to go about that;)

It would be helpful if someone who has theirs done could post it so we could see where everything goes. I have so many questions whirling in my head right now.

if we don't get any news, we definitely should send her another email next monday...

and yeah she was really nice in the first reply so I don't think she forgot us :)

This probably the wrong thread to say this, but:

yayyyyy this is such a great project...I already know what to put on my postcard:D

Thank you very much for that public service announcement.

But how long did she take to respond to the first one?

i think i remember Lore saying Debs responded the 1st email in about 5 hours <i think......>...... but considering that this is a royal mail procedure, it was expected that this time her response would take much longer.........

is just that we're dying to know!!!!!!!! :bomb:
