Oasis Fall Short of Coldplay's Sales Record

Featured Replies

OASIS finally kicked off their UK tour last night.

The original date – at Cornwall’s Eden Project – was cancelled after NOEL GALLAGHER was knocked over by a crazed fan while playing in Toronto last month.

But just like his ribs after the attack, the rescheduled gig at Liverpool’s Echo Arena was cracking.

As last night’s show began, Oasis were on track to shatter COLDPLAY’s album sales record this weekend after Dig Out Your Soul shifted 90,000 copies on its first day on Monday.

CHRIS MARTIN’s gang hold the biggest first week tally of the year with their Viva La Vida collection selling 302,000 on its release in June.

But the Manc Lords’ latest effort, their seventh, looks likely to top that total by the end of the week.

They are outselling their nearest rival, KINGS OF LEON, by five to one.

It’s a great achievement from the boys, whose comeback single The Shock Of The Lightning surprisingly only came in at No3 this weekend behind the Kings and PINK.

An HMV spokesman said: “Oasis always enjoy huge first-day sales and their album is absolutely flying out of our stores right now. It’s going to be a huge No1 this week for sure.

“If it keeps this momentum going over the next few days it will eclipse the Kings Of Leon and even Coldplay’s Viva La Vida. In any event, the band will be on to another multi-million seller with Dig Out Your Soul.”

Oasis fans are fiercely loyal though. They all probably bought 6 copies each :P

Im going to buy a Viva la Vida album for my cousin, fan or not:P

They would make prefect christmas presents.... spread the coldplay love!:P

I'm happy as long as every record is held by Coldplay, Radiohead, or Oasis. lol All three are great!

well they're not very famous outside the UK. Imean certainly not as well known as coldplay

NO coldplay had about 100,000 on the first day i think? i doubt it though-- people have low expectations on oasis as of now/..........

Coldplay only had three days though. It was released on a Thursday.

Oasis have the week so will almost definitely outsell VLV.

oh god :laugh3::rolleyes:

well aside from the massive fan-bias, that album better be good if it's going to break the sales record.

here in aus we dont hear anything from radiohead and the only oasis song i know is "wonderwall", but coldplay is popular.

Radiohead aren't extremely popular, but they get mentions in the music rags a bit. Oasis popuarity has definately waned. Neither get played much on the radio.
