Coldplay in 25 years

Featured Replies

Hey there. I’m delurking because I’m in a reflective mood and I thought I’d pop this question to any who are interested in responding. My name’s Dee, btw and I’ve been reading this forum with enthusiasm for about 2 years now. Love you guys and all the great chatter. :)

Ok, here’s my question:

Do you think Coldplay has the staying power of the classic rock/pop bands…i.e. The Beatles, The Stones, Floyd, etc. and if so ( ahem, I’m pretty sure that would be a yes :P ), then what song(s) do you feel thus far would be their big signature song(s)? What song(s) would you think you would hear in 25 years and say fondly, oh yeah, I remember when…..

As you can tell I’m a wee bit older than most of you guys but my taste in music is eclectic. I’ve enjoyed Coldplay since I was first introduced to their music in 2000 so I think it’s safe to say that I’m a fan. :D

Welcome, from the other elder on the board, lol !

I do believe they have"staying power"

Thinking...Yellow, of course...VLV, IMHO, I could envision me liking Dont Panic in 25 years time

(classic, yet softer on the old ears hehe)

While they have had and will continue to have a number of radio hits... so far the songs that I believe are TRUE CLASSICS, meaning the songs that will still be played with a somewhat heavy rotation on radio stations 25 years from now, are as follows:

Yellow

Clocks

Viva la Vida

... possibly The Scientist

That's not to say that those are the only songs that people will remember or even that those are the only songs that will still get play. It's just my opinion that so far those tracks are the ones that the band will be most remembered for.

It should also be noted that just because these have been some of Coldplay's most "popular" songs that does not necessarily mean that the majority of fans would consider them thier "best".

I think in 25 years, Coldplay will finally be getting the respect they deserve from critics and music lovers alike.

Rush, in 25 years I'll probably be in diapers like English Silk's grandchild! :laugh3: Thanks for the welcome, ES. :)

It's just idle curiousity on my part. I agree with oldmuckers in that the songs that spark fond memories will be the "popular" ones and not necessarily those that we fans consider their finer moments. However, there's a lot of time between now and then. Who knows what direction Coldplay will take next. We may all be bopping to Coldplay Symphony 109 or in my case, shuffling and wiggling my ancient derriere.

:)

Fix you to add to classics... adn yes, by the way by then hopefully they will bre really really cherished as artists...

 we all be still here looking at pictures of Chris bald  (i wonder how they will look like in 25 years)

no - Chris the GRANDPA LOL

OMG, I'll be 78!!

Chris bald will still be as hot as he is now!

Yes, I definitely think that their music, if not them as a band will still be around in 25 years time and will be cited as a major influence in the music of many new bands that may not have even been invented yet.

The other great musical love of my life was Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry (and Eno of course!), I fell in love with them in 1973 and went to see Bryan Ferry (for the umpteenth time)a couple of years ago and he's "still got it" Their music was always influential to many people as I think Coldplay's will be too. They are musical geniuses and no mistake.

They will be as important as U2 are. Funny how Eno was involved with them too! Clever bloke!

hmm in 25 years i'll be 41...

i agree with oldmuckers. yellow, clocks and viva will probably sticking around for a while, and probably fix you.

In 25 years I'll be 43 :stunned:

If Coldplay still wanted to be around they definitely could be. I hope they are! But yeah, I think the song people will remember them by is mainly Yellow or Clocks. Wow, imagine like a 50 something year old Coldplay...

More like Grandfather Clocks!!

I'll be 51....that will make the guys what... 56-57. Hopefully they'll still be making music like all the greats.
