^was wondering when that was coming out *listens*

shite this is good. There was some reviewer who really hyped it up sometime ago, and its about on par with what he described.

I'm absolutely in love with the last track...

God, I've listened to this whole thing about a dozen times now. John Taylor's Month Away is permanently etched in my ear, and I couldn't be happier.

Is anyone going to the Simple Things Festival in Bristol on 12th and 13th October? Jon Hopkins is playing on the Saturday and I really want to go, but I'd rather go with someone else instead of on my own!

He’s produced Coldplay but Jon Hopkins is now flying solo and looking to Laneway Festival

He’s produced Coldplay, been nominated for an Ivor Novello award and compared to Brian Eno but 2014 was still a breakout year for British producer/musician Jon Hopkins. Immunity, Hopkins’ fourth studio album, drew almost universal critical acclaim and took the 35-year-old “from playing to 300 people to 5000”.

An album of two halves that veers from precise, heavy, warm electronica to reflective piano ballads, Hopkins, who plays Laneway at Sydney College of the Arts, Rozelle on February 1, said the album’s success has given him a freedom he never previously enjoyed.

It hasn’t affected my ambition in terms of wanting to keep exploring but what it has done is given me the freedom to only do my own stuff,” he said.

“Previously my solo stuff had never done as well as what I’d done with bands so I couldn’t justify spending too much time on it.

Before Immunity, Hopkins was perhaps best known for his work as a co-producer on Coldplay’s 2008 album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, where he also co-wrote album-opener Life in Techicolor and played on several tracks. But, after the recent release of Asleep version — an EP of remixes from Immunity — it’s his new album that’s currently occupying his mind.

“I don’t instinctively feel like I want to work with bands anymore. I have an ongoing relationship with some people and I’d like to do more with them, with Wild Beasts and with Coldplay but I don’t want to work with new people I don’t think. I just want to get another album out first and worry about the other stuff later.”

Despite the recent rise in profile, Hopkins said he’ll tailor his Laneway show to suit those who’ve never heard his music as well as his Australian fans.

“On the festival shows I tend to focus more on the upbeat side of the albums, so at Laneway you won’t hear the piano ballads so much, it’s more of an upbeat set,” he said.

“I like to assume my music isn’t popular anywhere, that leads to some pleasant surprises. I was really pleased last time I went to Australia to find that I could sell out a show in Sydney and I’m really pleased to be at Laneway because that’s an awesome line up.”

The 35-year-old picked out fellow electronic artists Caribou and Flying Lotus as ones to watch at Laneway Festival.

The Laneway tour, which takes in shows around Australia, Singapore and New Zealand, will be one of the last times Hopkins tours Immunity, with just a few one-off UK shows scheduled as he begins work on a new album he hopes to have ready by the end of the year.

I've been listening to his recent album on Deezer. Soooo good! My favorites are Open Eye Signal, Abandon Window and Immunity.

Hello Jon Hopkins I like your music very much thank you for making it bye :wacky:

If you listen to it, it has the same chords as Major Minus, just slower. Like Batman said,^^^ it was played in the Live 2012 DVD. I believe the song was originally meant to be an instrumental song on the album that would come before Major Minus like the way MX is to Hurts Like Heaven

Thanks for clearing this up! Goes to re-listen to the Coldplay Live 2012 DVD :hiding:

For every Jon Hopkins lover out there, here's one of the most haunting songs I've heard in a while: his own ambient remix of his track Immunity.
