I don't know why she's wearing heels though, she's tall enough already!

I love tall girls but she must be over 6ft 4 with heels on, that's a bit much!

Murray masterclass: Brilliant Brit brushes aside Simon to send out a warning cry

Andy Murray put himself at the heart of the pursuit for the Wimbledon championship with a performance of scintillating tennis on Centre Court.

Murray's timely rediscovery of his game, as well as his confidence, will allow him to dispute a place in the quarter-finals with American Sam Querrey without his mind being cluttered by self-doubt or the fear of failure.

article-1289852-0A380742000005DC-613_468x286.jpg Brit of alright: Andy Murray was at his best in his win over Simon

Querrey has yet to lose a game on grass in this British summer, having won the Aegon Championships at Queen's Club a fortnight ago; and last night he overcame Xavier Malisse in five sets to claim a fourth round appointment with Murray.

But after months of inexplicably poor performances, since being defeated by Roger Federer in the Australian Open final in January, Murray has found himself on the green, green grass of home.

Last night, Murray's biggest concern was to defeat Gilles Simon before darkness enveloped Wimbledon that would have necessitated the inconvenient interruption of having to wait for the roof on Centre Court to be shut in order for their third round match to be completed.

After three matches, Murray has yet to lose a set and has not dropped his own service since the second game of his first match, against Jan Hajek.

For most of the evening Simon, desperately short of matches due to injury, and a stranger to the Centre Court that is now as familiar to Murray as the garden of his mansion in Surrey, was like a walk-on extra in a gala production written to showcase the talent of Britain's finest player in living memory.

Murray's critique of his own performance suggested that the show is destined to run deep into the second week of this Wimbledon.

'It's been a good start,' he said. 'It's something I needed for my confidence. I did feel I wasn't too far away from playing good tennis again - I just needed to put more work in and I did that the week before Wimbledon began. That definitely helped restore my belief, but I'm going to have to play better if I want to go all the way.'

Murray is thinking of nothing else, of course. His memory of Querrey dates back to their days as juniors, when Murray defeated the American as he established his first foothold in the game by winning the US Open junior championship six years ago.

'Sam's got a big serve, bigger than the guys I have played so far,' said Murray. 'Rallies will probably be a bit shorter. There are certain things you want to do against big guys like him, you want to keep them on the move as much as possible.'

Simon was removed from the championships by Murray 6-1, 6-4, 6-4; and only the third set was a contest in a match that ended just before 9pm. 'It was getting pretty dark towards the end,' said Murray.

'If I hadn't managed to close out that third set, we would have gone off and had to wait for the roof to go on. It does make you a little more nervous, but it wasn't like I was going for stupid shots. I maybe just got a little too tentative.'

Murray is never more dominant, it seems, that when he has the turf of the Centre Court beneath his feet. 'It's a great court, and the more you play on it, the more you get used to the speed at different times of the day,' he said.

Querrey will not have that same sense of well-being, as the big guy from out of town tomorrow armed with the role of making himself the least popular man in London SW18.

article-1289852-0A382001000005DC-661_306x423.jpg COME ON! As usual the Centre Court crowed backed the Scot, and he responded

On his previous appearance on the Centre Court three days ago, Murray worked by Royal Appointment as The Queen took a seat at Wimbledon for the first time in 33 years. Last night, the Royal Box was practically deserted as Murray returned.

Of course, this was not any reflection on Murray. The order of play committee had gambled that by scheduling Murray as third match on Centre Court they would ensure themselves a prime-time slot on BBC before the World Cup action began in South Africa last evening; and they lost their wager.

Only the loyal support of his friend, and compatriot, Olympic cycling hero, Sir Chris Hoy, with his wife, Sarra, prevented the best seats in the house from being totally abandoned by guests who chose the need for some sustenance after being detained by Nadal, who required five sets and 3hrs 45 mins to usher German Philipp Petzschner from the premises. Mercifully, Murray could not have cared less.

And soon, the memories of Murray's journey into the semi-finals of these championships 12 months ago stirred vividly into life. With the court in total shade, Murray strode the grand stage with imperious grace. Simon's contribution to the first set, an incisive exhibition of beautiful tennis from Murray, was to establish a new record for demanding the intervention of Hawkeye.

Murray's first serve of the first game flew into the back cover trailing a plume of chalk dust from the centre line. Simon challenged the legality of the call; but, not surprisingly, the replay on the giant screen showed the serve to be an ace.

The challenge proved to be symptomatic of the panic that would soon envelop the Frenchman as Murray took graceful command of all that he surveyed. The first game was gone, in a puff of time, as well as chalk, in a mere two minutes. The set was history in a 23 minutes.

And in the players' box, Murray's entourage sat in a row trying to keep themselves from looking smug. Judy Murray, his mother, sat next to Kim Sears, his girlfriend, who has returned to his life after their romance stuttered briefly over the winter.

Beside Kim ranged Team Murray: physiotherapist, Andy Ireland, fitness trainers, Matt Little and Jez Green, and coach Miles Maclagan. Ironically, across the aisle sat Murray's former manager Patricio Apey, wearing a cream jacket, dark glasses and, doubtless, a look of bewilderment at the manner his current client, Simon, was being demolished.

Murray was an irresistible force of nature on this night when he claimed victory in the dying of the light of another, memorable day at the All England Club at the end of an unforgettable week.

And in his moment of triumph, Murray was humbled by the sight of a strong contingent of military personnel rising as honoured guests in the Royal Box on Armed Forces Day. '

That was great,' said Murray. 'They put their lives on the line for the country and it was awesome that they came along to watch and support me. Everything they do is amazing, and I'm sure everybody agrees with that.'

It was a fitting epitaph to a day when Murray, doing what he does best, also lifted the spirits of the nation with timely effect before a certain football match is played in South Africa this afternoon.

Planetary shift! Venus Williams sent packing by unseeded Tsvetana Pironkova

Venus Williams' bid for a sixth Wimbledon title came to a crashing halt in the quarter-finals as Tsvetana Pironkova registered a major upset on Court One.

The unseeded Bulgarian crushed one of the pre-tournament favourites as she forced four breaks of the Williams serve to run out a comfortable 6-2 6-3 winner in one hour and 25 minutes.

The result continues the best ever performance by 22-year-old Pironkova at a grand slam, and she now progresses to Thursday's semi-finals.

article-0-0A418918000005DC-144_468x286.jpg Day in the sun: The impeccable Tsvetana Pironkova punished an error-prone Venus Williams

'Honestly it seems like a dream,' she said.

'Coming here I never thought I would play that well and reach that part of the tournament. I'm extremely happy.

'I think I played pretty well today, I'm very happy with my game and she also did well, but I have one win over her and I actually thought that I could win.'

American second seed Williams has been painfully aware of the threat posed by the world number 82 since Pironkova stunned her in the first round of the Australian Open in 2006.

And the Bulgarian again underlined her prowess by forcing two breaks of service on her way to taking the opener 6-2.

article-1290588-0A41BE28000005DC-514_468x286.jpg Floored: Tsvetana Pironkova is elated after clinching victory

Pironkova, who beat 2007 finalist Marion Bartoli in the fourth round, won a remarkable point at 3-2 to prevent Williams holding serve, firing back a smash she had no right to get to before forcing the American into an error as the pair traded blows at the net.

A rattled Williams followed that by serving a double fault to concede break point, which Pironkova secured as Williams fired wide.

It was difficult to tell which player was ranked 80 places above the other at the start of the seventh game, with Pironkova's precise groundstrokes working Williams around the court.

Two double faults at the start of the next game underlined the extent to which Williams' cage had been rattled, and when she slammed an easy forehand well wide, Pironkova had three set points.

article-0-0A4198DA000005DC-817_233x322.jpg Terrible day at the office: Venus Williams

A narrow Hawk-Eye call saved the first of those, while a second went begging when Pironkova returned long before deuce came up when the Bulgarian netted wastefully.

A fourth break point soon arrived though and this time Pironkova made no mistake with a firm winner down the line.

Errors continued to flow from Williams at the start of the second set - the 30-year-old twice plunging the ball into the net with easy volleys - although she did just enough to hold serve.

Williams' capitulation in the opener marked the first time she had conceded a set at this year's Championships, and she appeared determined not to repeat the experience as she managed an early break.

But Pironkova responded with a break-back point in the next, the 22-year-old again showing first-class agility as she chased down a drop shot before aiming a precise lob to the back of the court.

And the Bulgarian got the set back on serve when Williams netted, much to the delight of a Court One crowd who braced themselves for an upset.

article-1290588-0A41B15D000005DC-133_468x286.jpg The toast of Court One: Tsvetana Pironkova won the applause of the watching public

Unforced errors remained a feature of Williams' game as she hit her fourth and fifth double faults early in the sixth.

A 10th break point soon followed for Pironkova and the writing was on the wall for Williams when she fired wide to fall 4-2 behind.

A lucky net cord secured a 5-2 lead in the next as the gods began to smile on Pironkova, and although Williams saved two match points in the next, the Bulgarian closed it out on her service game to take the set 6-3 and advance to the last four.

Murray still looking good, Serena still playing like a man...........................

:laugh3::laugh3:

Predictable results in the women's semis. Let's hope things work out differently tomorrow!;)
