7-5, 6-3, 6-2 to Murray

You know what's coming next!

Andy Murray made it look too easy out there today. Shame to see Laura Robson defeated in the 3rd round of the juniors though. She did have an injury though but still, what a talent she will be.

Woo Hoo!!!!

Roddick wins against Hewitt! Now for Andy v. Andy!

Pretty impressive for being unseeded and not doing much in a long time. It was a nail-biter though.

I was only kidding. He put up an excellent fight, as always. In fact, he's probably one of the best fighters there's ever been. He's like a terrier.

I play a lot like that myself, which is why I win more matches than I lose (at my level) and often beat players who are better than me on paper.

Anyway, he did himself and his fans proud and it was good to see him back playing at a decent level, which he hadn't done for a few years.

Murray should beat Roddick anyway.;)

Murray should, but will he? ;)

I'm not sure he's mature enough yet.

Don't talk rot. He's been playing unbelievably good tennis since the second half of last year, and has already beaten Fed several times. He's more than ready.

Plus he has a 6-2 record against Rod.

True, but Roddick is also playing great tennis lately. He's coming out of a slump, and frankly I'm a bit surprised he didn't put Hewitt away sooner. But his endurance is phenomenal (see that match in the Melbourne heat against Djoko for more evidence).

Oh and also,

HONK! :laugh3:

 (again)

I'm embarrassed to see I only caught the beginning and very end of the match. Leaving after that close 2nd tiebreak. If Roddick wasn't playing I'd be pulling for Hewitt all the way. Something very refreshing about a short, but wiry base-liner, although I also used to love Henman, whose the complete opposite.

Anyway...Murray definitely has the odds next match, and he works the ball much more creatively then Hewitt does. But Roddick's also gotten much better at working the slice and coming to net in recent years. Its gonna be awesome, regardless of who wins.

I never knew you were a half decent player! Tell us more.... you ain't Tim Henman are you??? Only kidding! Tim was a class player who was unlucky. A wonderful serve and volleyer he was.... a dying breed.

Anyhow Murray v Roddick. Remember Murray sweeping Roddick away 3 years ago in straight sets in the 3rd round? The thing is that Roddick is playing better than he did now than in 06.... but so is Murray.

lol, I remember that all too well. Murray was a complete unknown kid at the time, and he added to the already devastating year Roddick was having.

I see that match as one of the biggest I witnessed. However, do you recall in 2005 Murray taking Nalbandian to 5 sets in the 3rd round after beating Radek Stepanek in straight sets in round 2. That was a turn up for the books but back then his stamina was poor so in long matches he physically couldn't keep up, Nalbandian match being an example.

Just from observing Roddick, I think he's greatly affected by the score. It's like when he loses a set, there's a mental block for him to continue playing as effectively. And he also tends to draw out games longer than he should - after all, he's got the best serve in tennis. He should be racking up these cheap points when he really needs them. Instead he keeps falling back into deuce over and over.

But his game is markedly improved since he got this new coach and lost 15 pounds.

Yeah, he's his own worst enemy much of the time, as we saw at the French. When Andy's frustrated he gets stiff and impatient, often trying to hit winners off the forehand. if he wants to beat Murray he'll have to be comfortable hitting corner to corner. When Connors coached him at the U.S. Open, he was a lot more comfortable on the baseline, and knew when to come in for volleys. I actually wish he stayed with Connor instead of going back to his brother, because Jimmy did make such a profound difference in his game... going from early round losses (including that one against murray) to the U.S. Open final. But he is doing really well this year.
