Fate

Hello everyone!

Do you believe in fate? Or things happening in one's life that are symbolic of the future?

yeah i believe that things happen for a reason but i don't believe that there is a set plan for everyone if ya understand me!!! ;)

 Isn't what u just said the same 2 things?? I'm confused!!

Kind of but no. Cos fate is when there's a set path that you live upon, and it goes along with destiny. Symbols though can just be foreshadowing to stuff that's going to happen (can even be a phone call!).

Hell no, possibilities are endless, that depresses me and makes me feel insignificant.

Its actually kinda weird for me to think the Atheistically as I do, because I have dreams about stuff that happens in my sleep all the time, in fact Im very strange. For example I have a feeling when the telephone is going to ring, I dont know for sure what the feeling is, and I dont know when its happening, but sometimes when on the internet I get this sudden urge to disconnect quickly as if Im hugely paranoid and as soon as I disconnect the phone rings. Thats happened a lot.

And also, if a song gets into my head, a random one, maybe even one that hasnt been really played in a long time, I will see it at some point throughout my day. The last time that happened was yesterday, Smashing Pumpkins "Cherub Rock".

The freakiest time that happened was when this Garbage song got stuck in my head, I was singing it ALL day. You may know it, the chorus is like "Such a delicate boy..." and part of it goes "Go baby go go, now get it together go baby go go..." Well, I was seriously singing that ALL day and when I was out late that night I walked past some traditional Irish pub and the FOLK IRISH band was playing the song! I swear to god I was so freaked out I really didnt know what to do, and I ran away.

I mean, what the hell are the chances? All those bands usually play are Irish Folk songs and on the very same day they decided to do a Garbage song that was in my head all day.

So where was I? Oh yeah, I dont believe anything happens for any particular reason, despite my very odd way of "seeing the future" so to speak.

I believe that nothing happens for a reason....

it's just life and thats the way it is

well see that's what I was getting in at kind of....see I believe in fate, and about things happening in my life that have indicated my fate...but then something happened- and I know that it wasn't meant to be...but the irony of the situation and mainly my heart is telling me that it was part of something big and beyond me. so now I question whether or not I believe in fate at all because I know that what happened didn't mean anything...and to believe that means I would be being a hypocrite (well more of one)...but to believe it was fate would lead me to false expectations in my life that I just don't need!

Interesting Reilly. I do things like that too. It gets weird. :/

But I look at those situations in a totally different way then when "something happens" for a particular reason. I guess... to many things have happened in my life... to many experiences... You know, scratch that... now that I think of it. Maybe its not fate, its just probably my gut instinct!

I'm not quite sure really, I'd have to think this one over while I'm bored and hot at work :o

Nah, I don't believe in fate... I believe your life and your future depand on you :)

but isn't fate doing something that you were meant to do, as a result of ones actions? :dozey:

i think fate is a physical absolution of your own ideals and principles

if anybody can explain what i mean to me i would be grateful

stay off the puffy things, they make you see things in the dark :stunned:

:stunned: too confusing for me  I mean, I don't think any of us are meant to do anything, I don't think there's a destiny carved somewhere or something like that.

That's actually an interesting concept!!! because fate exists only as an idea...there's no way to test it . So fate in a sense if it does exist is only the manifestation of what you want to happen in your life...

It's funny how we turn fate on and off.

I don't believe in fate. You can make anything happen, it's not already planned out for you.

Like they said in Terminator 3, "the future is not already written. There is not fate but what you make"

^^ that's what I think  but who really knows, aye?

fate - we don't have power over things and that humans are progressing towards a predetermined end.

though i believe that there are some things that we can't control; well i couldn't think of anything better than the weather right now, i wouldn't accept the idea that there is a "plan" already laid out for me for there are also things that i can control, like my body, my thoughts and emotions. so i believe that whatever we do in life, whatever decisions we choose and their outcomes are not brought about by fate, but by our own free will. :D

im not sure on this one...i'll get back to you

i joke around that i believe in fate...but i don't know that i do yet.

i am a strong believer than things happen for a reason.i could go on and on and on and on because i am VERY VERY VERY religous (baptist) but i wont.. :dozey:

the best things in life are free

*boogies*

OMG that happens to me too, so many times...

The most freaky was when i was about 15, for no reason whatsoever, I began to sing Footstep on the dancefloor...then at halftime in the football game I was listening to, the very same song came over the tannoy...I thought wow weird...so went to scholl next day, and as talking to my mate about it, but I couldnt remember the song :( Then about 30 minutes later, he began to sing it too...too freaky... :stunned:

I don't want to believe in fate, I don't want to believe anything is pre determined, that means there are no choices in life...that we aren't free, or independant with our actions....

Personally I believe in parallel universes, for every action, an opposite reaction occurs somewhere else, thus every eventuality has an outcome, but it is totally free choice. (Ever see Jet Li the one?)

Say for example you're leaving the house, but you remember you forgot something, you decide to go back and get it. Now while your walking, you see an accident right where you would have crossed 5 minutes earlier, that could've been you...and in some parallel universe...it was...this is why I reckon we shiver occasionally for no reason, you know when someone says "Someones walked over your grave?" Because someone somewhere in another time and place just did, and you feel it pass through too you.

Anyway thats my theory :)
