February 1, 200917 yr So after seeing all of Chris' painted guitars - I just had to do it to one of mine. I used blue painters tape all around the body of the guitar to make sure that I was not going to do any damage to the wood. After layering and layering and layering, I gave it a basic white coat of paint and used that as my canvas. The "art' was just me going by the seat of my pants..
February 1, 200917 yr Does the paint effect the sound of the guitar at all? I'm tempted to do this as well but that's my biggest worry.
February 1, 200917 yr Author Well, I gig with this guitar, so it has a pickup under the saddle and is all electronic. I rarely play it just straight acoustic. I also usually have the feedback buster in the soundhole as well so I am not used to it's normal sound :) I will say that last night when I was done with it (before I stuck the feedback buster back in it), I didn't see much of a difference. The tone may have been dampened a bit, but nothing that will be TOO noticeable to the outside listener
February 2, 200917 yr Well it looks great. I especially love the scribbled-on orange part near the fretboard. I see you used regular craft acrylics... did you varnish it with anything after that?
February 2, 200917 yr Author Novah - I did use a clear coat varnish when I was done with it. I had a big brush and just went around the body here and there to give it a shine
February 3, 200917 yr well you did great. I'd like to ask you about your feedback buster, you think it's worth it??? I'd like to try one on my acoustic so... don't know how much of a difference there's on the sound and if it's too hard to put on and off.
February 3, 200917 yr Really really awesome work there :D Good to know that the guitar's sound is still fine after the painting job :nice:
February 3, 200917 yr Author The feedback buster is a bighelp to me. We have floor monitors at most of our gigs and with it in the soundhole, the guitar doesn't seem as "hot." Plus, they cost about $5 at your local music shop, so it's def. worth it!
February 7, 200917 yr The feedback buster is a bighelp to me. We have floor monitors at most of our gigs and with it in the soundhole, the guitar doesn't seem as "hot." Plus, they cost about $5 at your local music shop, so it's def. worth it! mmm that's ok but my guitar is not elec-acoustic, just acoustic and I don't play a lot in public, I'm going to in a while haha but it's just mainly for myself, cause I'm kinda perfectionist you know and wonder how it would sound even if it's just to me. Bsides is not that easy for me to get it, the best music shop I got close doesn't have any so I'd have to order one. What do you think?
February 23, 200917 yr Author Hey Everyone, I got bored yesterday and started from scratch with a new paint job (same guitar)
February 23, 200917 yr Hey Everyone, I got bored yesterday and started from scratch with a new paint job (same guitar) :stunned: wow. You're an inspiration.
March 1, 200917 yr Wow, thats amazing.. you have to give like a tutorial dude! I've been thinking about doing that to my guitar but i don't really know where to start. Any suggestions?
March 9, 200917 yr Wicked job on that! XD I don't have an acoustic to paint, sadly...it's neck broke. -_- Anyway, well done.
June 8, 200917 yr Author Version 3 of my painted guitar! This time, I covered the top with painters tape (for protection), then instead of painting that white for a canvas, I used white duct tape instead and then painted on top of that -
June 8, 200917 yr AMAZING blend of colours.. very viva-ish but with your own touch! and i love the Casino background too! :laugh3::P What type of paint did you use? And this one: Version 3 of my painted guitar! I would like to suggest something. Maybe to add a little texture to your blank canvas (when you prime your guitar with white paint) do it unevenly and then try overlaying with a striking colour... yellow perhaps or violet? :D (:laugh4: i wanted to do it but since I don't have time :() If ever you go about doing it show it to us! :nice:
