June 10, 2009.

AT&T Center, San Antonio, Texas.

Best night of my life.

This was the night of my first ever Coldplay concert, and it did not disappoint in any way. I had seats that were ok; they were 2 rows up from the floor level, in the middle section furthest to the left, right next to the aisle. I thought that the show would be great, but I didn't expect anything out of the ordinary to happen to me and my friends.

At some point during the gap between the great opening performers, the Howling Bells and Snow Patrol, I glimpsed Hoppy, one of Coldplay's famous (if you're a big fan) roadies walking up the stairs at the other end of my row. I got pretty excited, just shocked that I had seen him in the flesh. I felt lucky to have even seen him at all, and expected nothing more exceptional to happen besides a mind-blowing performance from Coldplay.

The night progressed, with a wonderful Snow Patrol set, the playing of songs like U2's "Magnificent" and a song by Jay-Z, when a roadie did some fantastic and (in my opinion) hilarious break-dancing. Finally Coldplay came on and the show commenced. Now, since my friends and I were a the very front of our section, and right next to an aisle, we decided to stand at the end of the aisle at the railing separating us from the floor level. Not too long into Coldplay's set, I noticed that on the floor level a few feet below us and a few feet to our right, stood a man with a very nice camera, and he was taking pictures of us. I got my friends' attentions and we all started smiling for him. The man lowered the camera from his face to look at the pictures he was taking, and to my surprise it was none other than THE Phil Harvey! I started getting really excited and yelled his name, then explained to my friends who he was and that this was a big deal. Phil Harvey was taking pictures of us! No doubt it was because we were all wearing homemade Coldplay shirts, standing at the railing looking like and behaving like enthusiastic fans. I was and still am very thankful to Phil for giving us such a pleasant surprise!

So, being a relatively learned Coldplay fan, I had informed my friends ahead of time on what the B and C stages were. We could only hope that we might be somewhat close to the C stage. At one point in the middle of Viva La Vida, a security guard informed us that we had to sit back down in our seats. We thought this odd, because plenty of guards had seen us standing at the rail during the show and had let us be. But now, we were made to sit back down. Confused and a little annoyed, we took our seats. Out of nowhere it seemed, security guards were all over our aisle. They began taping it off on both sides so that the people couldn't get into the aisle. They opened a gate in the railing right where we had been standing, and roadies started to carry equipment boxes past us and up the stairs. It didn't take long for us to figure out what was going on, so we started to freak out. After Viva La Vida, the boys performed Lost! Then they departed from the main stage, walking along the edge of the floor level, then up the little steps to our aisle and right past me and my friends. As they passed, my friends and I all reached out and were each able to touch at least one member of the band. I was so excited! This had officially turned into the best night of my life.

The boys played on the C stage, which ended up being about 10 rows up from us, so we were pretty close! Then as they came back down, with a little push and shove from a security guard who decided to park himself between us and the aisle, we all touched the boys again. Not in an inappropriate way, mind you. Just a little bicep grabbing and back patting. Back up on the main stage, they carried out the rest of the concert with flying colors. And I mean it when I say that even if my friends and I hadn't had such incredible luck, the concert would still be considered the best of my life. Coldplay's live performance goes unmatched. We enjoyed the night immensely even when the especially exciting parts weren't happening. I couldn't believe that I had such great luck at my very first (and certainly not last) Coldplay concert. Coldplay definitely know how to put on a superb concert! Thanks for everything!

lauren i can't wait to hear all about your next concert!!:D:dance::D
