Radiohead Are Poor

Featured Replies

Now I know there are a lot of people on here that likes Radiohead, so please respect my opinion. It is only my opinion. I don't like them. Radiohead are far too pretentious for my liking and are so arrogant that they never seem to praise any other band despite the praise they get. Also I'm not fooled like many reviewers into thinking Radiohead are intelligent. Radiohead create crap sounding music that everyone thinks sounds good, only that they are forced into thinking it sounds good because if you say something against this band then you are deemed "not intelligent". I won't be fooled personally. Thom Yorke is inferior to Chris Martin in every single way. The man can't even sing for God's sake! Why on earth are they not subject to criticism?? If they were so good they would have sold hundreds of millions of albums now in their 16 year career. As it turns out they've only sold 26 million albums in that period. Coldplay have sold 47 million in 8 years. Oasis sold 20 million on one album alone. They've got 50 million in around the same period as Radiohead. Album sales tell a lot for rock bands. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, U2.... they've all sold them in their hundreds of millions, in The Beatles cases billions. Coldplay's music is much more loved than Radiohead's.

I see also...

You're a brave, brave boy Mr HowYouSawTheWorld :stunned:

The cemeteries are full of fools and brave ones

everyone is entitled to their opinion fair play you've got alot of balls. I don't agree with a word you say tho but hey it would be a boring world if we all liked the same stuff.

All I'll say is go listen to 'Street Spirit', 'Paranoid Android' and 'How To Disappear Completely' and tell me if they really do "create crap sounding music" Your view is abit out there mate, but fair play to ya if that's how you feel, Radiohead won't appeal to everyone :laugh3:

I don't like them (for me are boring, but it's just a personal opinion), but your argument is really weak... just because you doesn't like them doesn't mean their music is bad or they are poor.

Interesting arguments. I myself have been very back and forth in my fandom of Radiohead and Coldplay, and have had a hard time recently loving Radiohead as much as I used to.

A few things I'd like to point out:

1. I agree, Radiohead are very arrogant. One of the reasons it is hard for me to like them sometimes...it's hard to like someone who calls your other favorite band "cheap pop music" (Thom Yorke on Coldplay)

2. I also agree, it is unfair that many people are labeled "too stupid to understand Radiohead" if they don't like them. That's not fair and most of the time not true. And there are a lot of dumb Radiohead fans, trust me, I've seen them.

3. I disagree, Thom Yorke is far superior to Chris Martin in almost every way. Just because you don't like his style of singing doesn't mean he's not a good singer. In fact, he's one of the best singers I've ever heard, mostly for the effort and emotion he puts into it. Also, Chris Martin is a decent guitarist and a pretty good pianist. Thom Yorke is one of the great guitarists (especially for his ability to play extremely difficult parts while singing as he does), a decent pianist, and also plays drums very well. In many ways Thom Yorke is Martin's superior. However, people skills are an exception. Chris Martin is well-loved for his positive attitude, fair judgment, and open-mindedness. Thom Yorke is usually arrogant, puts down other bands, and even assumes 90% of his own fans don't "fully understand the music".

4. Finally, album sales do not dictate how great a band is. Using that in your argument is just empty support, there are countless other factors that are more important, so don't even bring it up again.

So overall, I am still undecided in Coldplay vs. Radiohead, but I think I personally leans towards Coldplay. You made some good arguments, but just as you don't appreciate being called "dumb" for not liking Radiohead, it is wrong for you to make declarations such as "The man can't even sing for God's sake!", because in that way you are stating that your opinion is fact, which is not true.

Good work nick. You fixed him up.

so that means I'm smart enough to like Radiohead?

that's a strong argument, something I don't like from Thom is his arrogance indeed, Chris is more friendly and humble, but for me Radiohead's music is better

and about fully understanding the music, I think the only person that can surely know what's a song about is the writer himself, but music is for you to interpret it as you want, to relate it to something in your life, that's something coldplay do better than radiohead, but if you want to relate it to your thoughts then Radiohead wins

well put. for all we know, Viva la Vida could be about the Burger King and Climbing Up The Walls could be about Spider-Man. There's no way to know for sure.

And I think interpreting it changes with the person. For me anyway, Radiohead is more relateable to my life whereas some Coldplay songs are more relateable to my thoughts. To each his own I guess

i second that :).

It's not horrible, it's good, open discussion about likes and dislikes of Radiohead. :)

No. It hurt my brain. The original poster doesn't deserve any sort of reasonable argument on the subject.

I second that. He obviously hates rh and won't change his mind about them so this is no discussion, just a hate thread.
