Earth Hour

Dubai might be more progressive than some of the other Gulf states - but that's by a matter of degrees, I think. Some of my cousins lived in Saudi Arabia, and well the beaches were beautiful, but having full body covering was not my cousin's style..

yeah....but the bright side is no need to worry about the upkeep on a Brazillian wax job:D

:laugh3: Yes, that is 100% true! Can you imagine - my cousin's used to Californian beaches, splashing in the ocean, etc., so she just went nuts not being able to run around in a bathing suit! (It probably saved her from too much sun exposure, though..)

What's so special about a Brazilian Wax Job??:P

you tell me:P

:laugh3:All I know is it has something to do with yanking the hairs off one's legs with wax, in some close quarters.. That, or it's something to do with Brazil nuts getting waxed before shipping them. Which is it??:\:P

hahaha...brave nuts.

any thing else- you can google:P

al gore's documentary has over 10 wrong facts in it. complete fear mongering. it is still not decided whether man has influenced climate change...especially since the temperature seems to be going down in the last 10 years.

What?? the temperature going down??

C'mon, if they could, they would tell us all the problems related to climate change, but that would be a big problem that would cause a very serious social alarm.

The Earth has suffered many climate changes along its history, but now this is NOT a normal change, this is too fast and uncontrollable just due to us.

And isn't only about temperature and the weather, is about all things in our lives, such as hurricanes, floods and ice-melting, diseases (especially cancer), food poisoning, extintion of animal and plant species that we all need, social problems,... and many many more things.

Many scientists have been explaining all this situation since a long time ago, that's not new... but unfortunately people never listen them. What will end up happening is that people will not realize about it until we're not in a irreversible situation.

I don't like being pessimistic but some people need to be it, just to see that one of the few solutions is to change some things now that we can.

And you don't have to understand a thing to know if it's real or is a lie, there are things very difficult to explain, but easy to realize just looking the nature.

I turned out all my lights and when i went to get up to go get something, i ran into a wall >.< it smarted very much *rubs head remembering the pain*

The problem with earth hour is the draw on the national grid at the end when everybody turns everything back on :P

I didn't do my bit for earth hour because the sky plus box needs a constant stream of electricity to do it's magic

Guess which country didn't take Earth Hour seriously?! :D :P

:D

Well it wasn't a big deal here and a lot of people thought the whole thing is counterproductive. We already do a lot to save energy compared to other countries. ;)

isnt masturbation illegal there, Jay?:P

Probably. Another reason for you to move there! :P

For somebody who hates thinking about it, you sure do think about it alot! ;)

Wait, where is masturbation illegal?? That's the most fucked-up thing ever. :inquisitive: edit: In Dubai? Naw, I bet it isn't. *googles*

EDIT: ZOMG I think it is. You can't own a vibrator/sex toy there. That's sort of retarded.

I totally forgot about Earth Hour I feel terrible.

Well that's islamic law for you, in much of the middle east stoning is still a common practice.

I had this great revelation, and I didn't know where to post it, so I'll put it here (it ties in , anyhow):

I've been searching for a solution to foam board, and looking for answers in nature today, it dawned on me - pith tissue in mullein plants!! Actually, any pith tissue will do. It's literally nature's foam-board - it even squeaks like styrofoam !

Since it can be grown in the lab (natural pith tissue cells on growth medium), and can then be produced in flat sheets - adding some chlorophyll chloroplasts, and set in the sun with enough moisture and air, and voila! Not as fast as foamboard is made, but there's a low-tech, all-natural solution, doable at home, and at any income level - and it's natural! Add some trace borate (natural mineral salt) to keep the bugs out, and put it up like the pink or blue stuff! (plus I think it takes a dye, so one could color it however one chooses).

Nice to find an answer to one of those problems..

Maybe not the fastest, but if rooftops were used, it could be a production that in a few weeks makes tons of sheets, and would allow even the poorest people in the world a way to make really good solid insuation materials, with minimal setup requirements..

Yeah, and it's not like most men don't do it there either -- they're even worse about it than Westerners, I think. I was just surprised b/c I thought Dubai was getting more modern etc etc.

And what's more modern than masturbation?

Just LOOK at this Dubai building!

It's longe-- I mean TALLER than any other skyscraper in the world.

HAHA. I think that most pointless things are done for no reason other than penis compensation. But maybe that's just my teenage hormones talking. And a lot of things WITH a point are also done for penis compensation. Look at Kim Jong Il.

Okay that was low. Below the belt, as it were.

Well that's the propaganda anyway. I'm not saying man doesn't effect the environment, but historically we're coming out of a small ice-age. It was hotter in the Medieval year 1000 than the mid to late 90s. After that the temperature continued to drop, almost dramatically until the late 1600s when the temperature started coming back up again, and made its way to where it is now. This mid-period in the past millenium is known as "the little ice-age". If you step back and look at the past 2000 years, You'd see the temperatures steadily drop and increase from the year 0 to where it peaked at 1000 B.C.. The earths temperatures have naturally cycled up and down this way since the beginning of time.

Interestingly, back in the mid 1970s, a worldwide alarm was going off that we were headed into another ice-age because of the steep temperature drop from 1950 to 1965. Now we're hearing the exact opposite. I found this article sort of interesting:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/05/02/a_tale_of_two_thermometers/page2.html

And isn't only about temperature and the weather, is about all things in our lives, such as hurricanes, floods and ice-melting, diseases (especially cancer), food poisoning, extintion of animal and plant species that we all need, social problems,... and many many more things.

Well they were wrong last year about the supposed Armageddon we would see in Hurricanes. It was one of the quietest hurricane years in the past decade. And that followed by our nation-wide, record-breaking temperature lows this past winter is making it hard to keep people convinced. Apparently the term"global warming" has been replaced with "climate change"? I wonder why that is...

Many scientists have been explaining all this situation since a long time ago, that's not new... but unfortunately people never listen them. What will end up happening is that people will not realize about it until we're not in a irreversible situation.

Personally it seems that I can't go a day without hearing in the media, the street or the forums about the horrors of 'climate change'. And even though a bunch of inaccuracies were pointed out in Al Gore's documentary he apparently refuses to debate the matter and set right the ignorant few who are unsure about some of the details.

Mind you, this article doesn't come from fox news, but the extremely liberal 'Huffington post'. (Huffington recently published a book titled "The Right is wrong."

No? thats a scary thought. Look, I understand the importance of energy and resources. I turn off my lights when I leave, drive a small, efficient car...I'm not saying global warming is a myth, nor that greenhouse gases don't impact the environment. (Just looks at whats happened with China...)I'm just saying there may be certain exaggerations about the basic facts of the matter. Whenever something like this sweeps the news and media this rapidly, I'm naturally inclined to be skeptical of what I may not be hearing.
