Coldplay Greatest Hits 2000-2010

Featured Replies

do you think that coldplay will release a greatest hits album for 2000-2010?

I thought of this because was just thinking (because I'm also a U2 fan) that U2 has made Greatest Hits for each decade, do you think Coldplay would do the same?

I wouldnt doubt it but i definitly wouldn't buy it. Greatest Hits cd's are usually just the most popular tracks.

yes but some bands include new songs exclusive to the Greatest Hits

well for coldplay it seems unusual

I doubt they will. They are either too modest or still think they actually suck too much. It just doens't seem to be in their character.

There's a right way and a lot of wrong ways to pull off a Greatest Hits CD. You don't want to just slap 15 hits onto a CD and sell it as if you're taking your fans for chumps. I think we had this discussion in the general Coldplay forum, where a few of us suggested that they take the U2 route by making it a 2-disc purchase. Disc A would have their hottest singles, while Disc B would contain B-sides, mixes, and a few unreleased tracks (like Famous Old Painters).

and a few unreleased tracks (like Famous Old Painters).

:wideeyed:

So there's...there's still a chance that song will come out?...

The problem with Best Of Cds is they are often the brainchild of greedy corporate executives, not the bands themselves. Radiohead is one example. They were furious that EMI put out a "Best Of Radiohead" because they felt it destroyed the cohesion of their albums. This may also take place with our dearly beloved Coldplay.

I would prefer a new album, with new amazing songs before a "greatest hits" ..

Yup. Greatest Hits albums are for casual fans who don't really know and love the band

once chris said they wanted to do something to end the decade.

so it would make sense to bring up a greatest hits album (2000-2010)

they wanted to do something special at around christmas 2009 as far as i remember.

but i dont know if they still have this idea.

there s something in my mind that tells me that they withdrew that..

Agreeing with others, the band just seem too modest for a compilation release.

If any sort of 'greatest hits' evolved it would be entirely EMI's decision and responsibility.

I wouldn't buy a greatest hits if they released it, considering I have all of their studio albums so far, and greatest hits albums contain....well....their greatest hits, basically all the songs that are played on the radio and the only songs that non-Coldplay fans can name. Usually the best tracks on an album are those that don't get radio play or a single release. I have to admit, I am guilty of buying a few greatest hits albums. I own the greatest hits of Genesis, and for a while I listened to U2 1980-1990. That was until I actually got into the band and started buying their other albums. If Coldplay did release one though, here would probably be some of the contestants for the tracks on it:

Don't Panic, Shiver, Yellow, Trouble, In My Place, God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, The Scientist , Clocks, What If, White Shadows, Talk, Speed of Sound, The Hardest Part, Lost!, Lovers in Japan, Viva la Vida, Violet Hill, Life in Technicolor ii.

That is just a guess on what COULD make it. I really don't think that songs like Don't Panic, What If, and the Hardest Part would make it, considering they never get radio play and such. I could see them putting songs like Lhuna as bonus tracks on it though.

Yeah it really depends if Coldplay get a say in what would go on a 'greatest hits' compilation. Generally the outcome's better - instead of getting just all the singles, we get some of the more uncommon tracks that the band really likes.

An example of this is Oasis' 'Stop The Clocks' (Best of) - the band chose the tracklisting themselves and 1/4 of their cd was B-sides.

I still think I would buy a best of just for my collection, but the idea of having a bonus disc or tracks is tantalizing!!

Oasis made a Greatest Hits for themselves and their fans...imo...

usually GH's are contractual, and are meant to appeal to a broader and more casual audience....don't we think??:)

That would be very un-Coldplay.

It would be like Chris Martin's parody of himself on Extras. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Wouldn't Coldplay wanna keep the U2 comparisons DOWN a little? :P

I was thinking the exact same thing.

it would be okay if it doesn't mean we have to wait more for a new LP.

if they release a greatest hits album, and then the new album it's the same.

but it would sucks if that means we have to wait until 2011 for a new album.

A 'Greatest Hits' CD is inevitable. It will happen, but who knows when. It's usually part of the contract - like 5 studio albums and a greatest hits. So I'm not sure what the contract with EMI is. We'll probably see one in the next year or so. Here's hoping it will be a 2-disc set as mentioned before.

I like greatest hits CDs though. They are great for bands you just don't really love, but want to have a few songs you like. Of course, there are always songs missing, but it's also a good way to get into a new band rather than buying the individual albums at first. I have bought a greatest hits before to test out a band, then if I like it, I go back and get the other material. So it's not all bad...

Exactly.

I will admit, I own the Radiohead best of... I like alot of their stuff but I still don't think I'd sit and listen to a whole album all the way through. I know that's blasphemous to some of you, but  But hey, I get the songs I want and Radiohead get a bit of my money :D

They'll release a greatest hits after their next album and then they'll have the option of leaving EMI. I wouldn't buy it obviously but greatest hits are more for those who are first time buyers to bands. It's the best way of introducing yourself to new music. Critically the best ones out there are Stop The Clocks and The Sound of the Smiths by Oasis and The Smiths respectively.

Also Coldplay could do what Oasis did and release a video of a song that wasn't a promotional single like The Masterplan in tandem with th release of Stop The Clocks. Perhaps they could do one for Politik.
