June 6, 200917 yr Anyone read the ultimate guitar article about coldplay? Heres the link if you havn't. I'm slightly confused as to what it's about. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/upcoming_releases/coldplay_reveal_story_concept_for_new_album.html
June 6, 200917 yr mmm.I don't know what it means.I guess they also started writing and having ideas only recently so they probably have a bunch of ideas that don't really make much sense for the moment.Interesting though.I thought VLV was pretty epic/story-like
June 6, 200917 yr Author well usually when i hear of concept albums i think of instrumental albums, but I can't see them doing that and getting away with it.
June 6, 200917 yr yeah, probably not.Maybe a few songs.LiT was instrumental only.Considering Will, Guy and Jonny worked with Eno without Chris I guess they experimented sounds and instruments quite a lot
June 6, 200917 yr Concept albums... They are not always instrumental, examples of popular music would be something like Tommy by the Who or Ziggy Stardust or more recently Green Day??? It's all about spinning a story with the songs in the album. VLVODAAHF was almost like a concept album to me, but I don't think they set out to do one then; rather it was more the good flow of songs that made it feel like one.
June 6, 200917 yr Maybe they are writing something like a Rock Opera like "Tommy", but only "Limestone Rock":laugh3:
June 6, 200917 yr I'm just pleased to hear they're thinking about the next album... I imagined a very long break after this tour
June 6, 200917 yr well usually when i hear of concept albums i think of instrumental albums, but I can't see them doing that and getting away with it. There are lots of non-instrumental concept albums: The Who - Tommy Pink Floyd - The Wall Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway Tool - Lateralus Radiohead - OK Computer To name a few. I'm sure Coldplay would do a good job with a concept album.
June 7, 200917 yr I have "Great Expectations" for this one....wasn't Chris photographed reading that a few weeks back??
June 7, 200917 yr I think a concept album would be very interesting!!We'll have to wait for while :) It'd be interesting to see how they pull this one off :D If it's a good concept album, it's going to be epic. I actually don't mind waiting a bit longer for them to thrash out the idea of a concept album
June 7, 200917 yr VLVODAAHF/Prospekt's March almost felt like a concept album to me. Just in terms of themes and imagery. I think it would be great to explore and develop this further.
June 7, 200917 yr VLVODAAHF/Prospekt's March almost felt like a concept album to me. Just in terms of themes and imagery. Agree.I love it!!I hope they do more of that stuff.I like the variety of instruments.Even Will learning how to play the accordion
June 7, 200917 yr Stripped down... does that mean more acoustic? Hmmmmmm. I'd imagine less production. They wouldnt let Eno crowd tracks up. More of a Prospekts March feel is what Im thinking. Not acoustic, just AROBTTH meets Viva La Vida with some X&Y on top.
June 7, 200917 yr I Not acoustic, just AROBTTH meets Viva La Vida with some X&Y on top. Just like trifle cake ;)
June 7, 200917 yr alright! I'm hoping they expand on this prospekt character. If they go for the full-out concept album-rock opera theme, he'll certainly be the protagonist. I've liked every scrap of news I've heard about this new album. But the idea of a 'concept album' gives me chills. This could be what a lot of people hoped Viva La Vida was gonna be.
June 7, 200917 yr I actually like what they did with The Goldrush.I think it's an interesting song cause it's tudio like.Like sitting around the fire. And, yeah, Prospekt as the main character would be a great idea!!
June 7, 200917 yr Maybe they're gonna go in the folkly direction.. Goldrush, Death Will Never Conquer, Dubliners, Now My Feet Won't Touch The Ground, even Prospekt's March kind of. Plus, I think those are the songs that are the most narrative or whatever. I'd be majorly disappointed.
June 7, 200917 yr I wouldn't even take what they're saying seriously yet. Remember before Viva, they said that they were going to make a hard album without piano? Well that didnt really come true, so I'd just wait it out until we actually hear some new songs =P
June 7, 200917 yr Great article cant wait to hear how everytyhing all pans out. I know that they next album no matter if its stripped down or not will be just as awesome as all the others................
