TV on The Radio ahead of Franz Ferdinand? This will be a strange 'un.

I'm betting Love Will Tear Us Apart will be somewhere in the top 10.

Wolf Like Me is an awesome song but yeh i agree with you in saying that Take Me Out should of been higher.

this will be a very interesting countdown. the demographic of the radio station has changed dramatically. nowadays you have alot of people surfing between triple j and NOVA. nonetheless the result of this poll will have little or no impact on the music played on the station.

i'm expecting Radiohead and Muse to dominate both should have at least 3 entries. ac/dc's return will mean that they will be the best represented aussie band while michael jackson's recent death will most probably result in a couple of entries for him.

the countdown has taken a turn for the worse this afternoon with 90 to 81 being revealed. as much as i love placebo i dont think they are a hottest 100 quality band especially not every you every me. i was scared sex on fire might get top 20 and was praying it wouldnt get in at all. so 90 isnt too bad.

yellow deserves to be much higher but i guess i am biased.

These current results are really quite bizarre if you consider Hottest 100 results in previous years. I wonder who actually voted, I didn't - too much to choose from!

the end of year hottest 100 is the biggest annual poll in the world. in case non-aussies are wondering what the hell triple j is, its basically the australian equivalent of BBC's Radio 1 (well so they say at least, looking at the stuff Radio 1 plays nowadays i would like to think not).

like i said before most of the triple j's audience are the type who flick between the commercial stations like nova, triple m and austereo network and triple j, which from what i hear wasnt the case so much 10 years when the poll last took place. what makes it into the poll now is quite trivial. its the top 20 thats really going to get people talking.

personally i think that positions 80 to 71 is a massive improvement and i'm really impressed with the amount of songs pre-1991 considering that 85% of the station's audience is between 18 and 25.

I'm tipping these to come in the top 10

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana (Hate this mind you)

Paranoid Android - Radiohead

Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

Knights of Cydonia - Muse

Killing in the Name - Rage Against The Machine.

Over Half a million people have voted in this and the annual hottest 100 is the world's largest music poll. by a long way!

  • Author

thats quite a good selection for the top 10. i will be very surprised if Queen make it that high simply because the audience doesnt match the band.

@ricardo

jump onto the stations website and take a look at the response to sex on fire making it. almost went into meltdown when that was announced. it was the biggest song in australia last year (and im sure it was up there in the UK and around europe) so its only natural for it to feature in a countdown of this nature. my theory is that people who dont really listen to alternative music but wanted to vote thought to themselves, hey whats an "alternative" band i know...KoL, whats the only song i know by them....sex on fire. put the two together and you have a song in the hottest 100. sad but true

next lot of songs starts in 5 mins for anyone interested.

According to whom?

The hottest 100 is a poll conducted by Australian radio station triple j. (Roughly the equivalent to radio 1 in the UK). It generally gets about 700,000+ votes and is the largest music poll in the world.

Every year, the top 100 songs from that year are voted for.

Every 10 years, the top 100 of all time are voted for!

  • Author

a significant proportion of the votes come from outside of australia as the poll is open to the whole world. looking at the entries so far it's hard to tell its an aussie poll, hardly any of the songs are home-grown.

blink 182?

Kashmir under blink 182 and Kol?

Although I like the list, well ate least part of it

  • Author

the reason why kashmir is below those songs is because led zep have loads and loads of big songs. so the votes were spread over all those songs. most people didnt want to vote for one band more than once. you'll find that alot of really hate led zeppelin especially those you loved that punk era that came just after led zeppelin broke through.

songs 60 to 51 were awesome for the most part. Tool's 46&2 and Comfortably Numb are my two favourites so far. they also played half of a rick astley song at number 53 which almost gave me a heart attack but they stopped it halfway and said the actual 53 was Like A Rolling Stone by the legendary Bob Dylan.

I guess this is a mainstream top 100.

you are right mate

tv on the radio, modest mouse, bon iver, rage against the machine, dandy warhols, placebo, the smiths, ben folds five, underworld, you am i and faith no more are the most mainstream bands in music history. it would of been sooo much better if they had britney spears and the backstreet boys had dominated it.

the top 50 has started and aside from sweet child o mine and betterman its an awesome selection of songs. note: the poll closed 2 days after MJ died.

Greenday doesn't belong in any Top lists they belong in bottom lists.
