Prefer ALL Coldplay. As long as they're the same 4 guys making fantastic beautiful music, that's fine by me and I'm sure all of us.

Personally I think they've got better live as the years have gone on.

This tour seemed to be more of a show, rather than just a band playing on stage. Don't get me wrong their old tours were awesome too but I preferred this one :D

I voted for the both option, cuz is not like I hate or don't like the Viva era like some other people. But the old Coldplay was a band I can identify more with. The new one is stadium band, with hit singles that the masses sing along in the concert, even those who have only hear the band in the radio.

For me the "old" Coldplay era reaches from "Pre-Parachutes" until "A rush of blood to the head" and I love it more than the new Coldplay because they made songs in this era, which were more edgy and not made for the masses. They just made the music that they wanted.

Since X&Y it seems like they are making music for the record company and to get more people to listen to them. The songs have a simple structure and the melodies are sometimes a bit too catchy. Too much electronic instruments. Even Chris' vocals aren't also the same like yesterday - he switched into a more clear singing style - why?

Examples:

"Fix you", "Talk" , "The hardest part", "Viva la vida", "Lost!" , "Lovers in japan" , "Life in technicolor II" , "Glass of water", "Rainy day"

You'll hear the huge difference by comparing these with old tracks like:

"Amsterdam", "Warning sign", "Daylight" , "Sparks", "Parachutes", "Bigger stronger", "A rush of blood to the head", "High speed" , "Spies", "Animals" and many more....

Don't get me wrong I love the new Coldplay too and they still have great tracks (Cemeteries, Yes, 42) but it was better when they weren't that commercial.

I hate this question so much. You just cant compare. It's like saying did you like the old Beatles or the new.Totally different.People change, the world changes, times change so music has to change

I was just thinking that!:stunned:

I mean really everybody, for anyone that knows a little something about them, think about the Beatles for just a moment. The first 4 albums the Beatles made were lovely, simple songs, usually about love. To me Parachutes is like that. Something I love to listen to, but it doesn't focus on much more than 1 or 2 emotions. Then think about Help!, Rubber Soul, and Revolver. Clearly these albums gave evidence to all the Beatles fans back in the 60s that the band was changing. And it probably left them wondering just exactly what the Beatles were going to end up being. To me, this is like AROBTTH and X & Y. Not so much in AROBTTH, although I do think Clocks and Daylight were perfect examples of their change, but even nmore clearly in X & Y you could tell that Coldplay was changing, taking a slighly different direction with ther music. And just like I'm sure that some Beatles fans were listening to Tomorrow Never Knows(Revolver) and thinking "wtf? this is not the band I fell in love with!" there were others that were probably thinking "This is different, but I like it". That's how I think people feel about X & Y. They'll either really not care for it at all or think that they like the different sound and are eager for what's next. But I also think that a lot of the people who didn't really like X & Y when it came out will eventually think, if they don't already, that the album was a great sing of Coldplay progeressing as a band. And then there's the Beatles' last 6 albums. Actually, just Sgt. Pepper's, to make this analogy simpler. This album was quite a far stretch from Please Please Me. It's hard to tell both albums are even made by the same band. This was the climax of the Beatles change in music. And though many people might have been thinking "this is crap" when they first heard it, it's now known as one of the greatest albums of all time. That's how I view VLVODAAHF. And no, I'm not saying that I think the album is as great as all that. But what I anm saying is that today's rubbish could be tomorrow's gold. You may not care for it now, but looking back, you may later come to appreciate it for what it is. A new milestone for Coldplay. Far from the little tunes about love and the pianos and acoustic guitars, which is still quite spectacular mind you, they've now progressed to bigger things, like politics and deeper meanings and synths. And a lot of you may still like the older stuff better, which is fine, but hopefully everyone will learn to appreciate VLVODAAHF as slightly revolutionary. Or at least realize that a good band never looks back, only forwards. If Coldplay is the band that I think they are, they'll never make another Parachutes or AROBTTH or X & Y or VLVODAAHF. They'll make something different, something new, something better. If The Beatles had stayed stuck on Please Please Me forever, they would never be considered the greatest band ever(I don't care if you think they are or not, it's irrelevant). If Coldplay is to be the next Beatles(I hope none of you really hate the Beatles or else you might find this insulting) then they are going to need to keep making albums that will make people think "wtf" when they listen to them. Because that "wtf" symbolizes change. People don't really like change, at first anyways. But they'll usually come around eventually. Basically, everyone has to deal with the fact that a good band will change constantly, because music is all about progress.

I hope at least some of you are Beatles fans like me so that maybe you know what the heck I'm talking about:lol:

I'm sorry that this is such a long comment!

i really really LOVE the old coldplay, but i Love the new coldplay too.

but i really miss the style they used to have like in a rush of blood to the head

i was listening today to the safety e.p and the songs were so powerful, viva la vida lacks a litltle bit of that aspect. i think that x&y is amazing and so is viva la vida but i hope the next album will better llike in AROBTTH days.

i always fantasize about hearing pre-parachutes stuff being played live, i wish they would play at least one of those songs at their concerts!
