I hate how you say 'old' and 'new'. They're the same people!

Bands evolve, it's a fact of life.

And who said Viva La Vida (the album in general) was more like pop?

Because that's crap.

Edit: People are focusing too much on the show they put on. Focus on the music. When you first listened to the album, before they started touring and wearing weird clothes, what did you think? "Losing their emotional integrity"? I don't think so.

I know 'old' and 'new' aren't that descriptive but it's just an easy way of referring to CP then and CP now.

Viva la Vida (the song) is quite poppy - no bad thing - but I agree, the album itself is no more pop than their other stuff, maybe even less so. It might have to do with most of the songs being three to four minutes long?

I don't understand how wearing make-up and 'weird' clothes makes the music mean less? Maybe the same people who think this want the band to make Parachutes 2 and go back to UCL.

Yes, you're right. The song is kind of pop-ish.

But when the album itself is called pop, I get really pissed. :shifty:

I like the first two albums better

but I love how they explore for new sounds while still sounding like themselves.

I definitely prefer the "old" Coldplay.

I like both, but if i had to choose, I would probably like to see the "old" one more... I wouldn't change the new one though...

So is old considered just pre-Parachutes and Parachutes era? That's when I first got into them, but I like the progression of their sound. Where is the division between new and old? I like both, but would probably go with new if the division starts with AROBTTH!

The "both"-option should be disabled. :dozey:

It's about prefering, as Josh already said ...

Couldn't agree more.

In this thread 'old' is everything up to, and including, AROBTTH. 'New' is X&Y onwards. Maybe they didn't change sound that much on X&Y but it was the first record where you could tell they were trying to go down different avenues.

To be honest it is very easy to get tired of VLVODAAHF.

I do understand that bands cant repeat the same concept to stay fresh and come up with something new..

It's just that the concept they have this time around is not really my cup of tea. I do still love it, but I don't listen to it as much as I listen to other albums, or even the b-sides for that matter.

Nah, Coldplay will always be Coldplay and Coldplay will always be the Best.

So I've figured out that I don't care about if it's New or Old. :D

I just hope they wear normal-looking clothes during the next tour.

But not like the X&Y uniforms either. I thought those were ugly. :uhoh2:

I hate this question so much. You just cant compare. It's like saying did you like the old Beatles or the new.Totally different.People change, the world changes, times change so music has to change

I voted both... but I think I like the old Coldplay better. It's just that if it wasn't for the new Coldplay, I might not have ever even liked Coldplay. :\

I voted both, but deep in my heart I know I love the old Coldplay more.

I don't think I'll be their fan because of Viva La Vida or Life In Technicolor though. It is songs like The Scientist and Fix You that turned me into a fan - the original Coldplay songs.

Ok, well if that's the case, then I like 'old' more because that's what got me into the band. Plus, even though X&Y is my overall fav album, AROBTTH is such a close second I couldn't say I like the 'new' more

I guess now they have had four albums, I like the middle ones the best! So I vote for 'middle' coldplay as being the best. ;)

though i like vlvodaahf and like it when people change - i like coldplay most without brian-eno-style. i think he made them more mainstreaming than they were before. the old coldplay was very touching, very heartily, very unique.

voted: the old coldplay

arrrrgh why people here have always so hard questions :veryangry:

i don't know what to choose

maybe both maybe the old coldplay or the new

in everycase i find something i like but then i listen more to old coldplay songs

so really don't know

  • 1 month later...

I love all there songs, but at concerts i dont think its as emotional or intimate for them anymore

There seemed to be alot more feeling in old concerts ive watched
