The rise and rise of e-tickets

Featured Replies

You know, when you get a link to print your own tickets off at home giving you an unique barcode which a man at the door scans. I can see both sides of the coin, the biggest plus is that they don't have to send tickets out to you in the mail, so it's more secure and less open for touts, but the biggest downer is that e-tickets ain't good for collections of ticket stubs to see what gigs you have been to over the years.

So are you in support of e-tickets or would you rather have the old style tickets sent out in the mail?

Another potential con to e-tickets is the potential fraud that can occur, in which somebody prints out multiple copies to scam buyers. Likewise, I tend to be wary of such tickets off eBay, Craigslist, etc.

But if you're buying them directly from a ticket outlet, I find their convenience much more consumer-friendly. I'm not one of the people who scrapbooks ticket stubs, so that's not of much importance to me, and e-tickets usually drop shipping charges.

I have a ticket stub collection, too. And the e-ticket thing bothers me. Whenever I go that route, I pick one up off the floor for my proper collection.

You know what always makes me laugh is that there is a fee for e-tickets, however, not a fee if you leave the tickets at will call. Why do they charge me when I am using my own ink and paper? It blows my mind.

I like the old fashion way. Plus, I buy a lot of tickets off scalpers, and I never trust e-tickets.

There's a fee for e-tickets? On Ticketek (our standard agency) they charge you for delivery and a little bit for picking it up, but nothing if you print it out. How odd.

Absolutely! You have not lived until you have had the joy of dealing with TicketMaster. The biggest profiteering racket in the history of mankind, IMO. That's why I scalp tickets so much. I will pay face value, but I don't want to give $20 in fees to those criminals.

TicketBastard is moar like it.

Yes I noticed this when a friend was over, he had a E ticket.. I guess ID could be asked for when passing the gates.. its the only way it would work !

I really don't like e-tickets or ticketfast tickets, they are somewhat convenient but I wouldn't ever buy them online or from anyone. They could have done thousands of print-outs of the same ticket and sold them all, and whoever gets the first crack scanned they get into the venue.

So yeah, in my opinion, always go with hard type.

I have actually bought e-tickets from people I don't know. I only do it when the price is really low, and I am not out of much money if it doesn't work. But you are right, first person in the venue wins, so it becomes nervous time until you get inside.

I don't see any downside...

Apart from fraud.

It's one thing faking multiple copies of a real ticket, but making multiple copies of the same e-ticket and passing it off on ebay before doing a runner is another thing.
