Ash-Clones

Anyone else think this is a great tune? A lot heavier than stuff off 'Free all Angels' :D

i hate the way they've gone...i wasn't the biggest Ash fan...although they do have some really crazy, well thought out chord changes..., but, it just seems like everyone recently, with the exception of The Devine Comedy, are getting heavier to sell records, or to be more popular

There was that phase when Ash went all 'heavy' on the album 'Nu-Clear Sounds' which was SOOO different to stuff they'd previously released. But I still think Clones is a good tune, and I'm interested to hear more new material!

What other bands do you think have gotten heavier? Manic Street Preachers did the total opposite, and they're STILL great  :D :wink3:

How is their new song called, by the way? watched the video this morning but I don't know how it's called... the song's pretty similar to 'Clones'.

Manic Street Preachers did the total opposite' date=' and they're STILL great  :D :wink3:[/quote']

Oh yeah, and so did Travis

Ash Finish Fifth Album

Ash Finish Fifth Album

Irish power pop stars Ash have completed work on their fifth album, due to hit stores mid-year.

The band have recorded fourteen songs with engineer Michael Brauer (Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Coldplay) and do not have a title for the record yet.

It will be their first release since 2004's 'Meltdown', which saw the band have huge success worldwide.

Thanks to hits like 'Girl From Mars', 'Goldfinger' and 'Kung-Fu', the band became one of the pioneers of guitar pop with tinges of punk.

The songs recorded are not in any particular order, and some may be used as b-sides. Their titles are:

I Started A Fire

You Can't Have Have It All

Polaris

Suicide Girls / Subterraneans (title not yet decided)

End Of The World

Blacklisted

Shadows

Shattered Glass

Roulette (title not yet decided)

Princess Six

Dark And Stormy

What Is The Meaning?

Saskia

In Hell / The Boy Who Lived In Hell (title not yet decided)

Its not exactly their fifth album,

Their eighth by my reckoning.

Nu-Clear Sounds

Free All Angels

Meltdown

There's five, this will be their sixth. I'd love you to name the other two.

Unless you count their 1997 live album and 2002 greatest hits album, Ian is correct.

Although this is album 6 but the arcticle says album 5

I saw them open for cp in '02 and thought they were phenomenal live. I hope this means some North American dates!:)

Ash to abandon albums for singles

Irish rock group Ash have said they will stop making albums and concentrate on releasing singles on the internet.

"With the advent of the download, the emphasis has reverted to single tracks," said frontman Tim Wheeler.

"It hasn't helped that most people have forgotten how to make a decent album," he added.

Rumours that the band were due to split started at the Isle of Wight Festival when Wheeler told the crowd he was playing songs from their "last album".

But in a statement on their website the group moved to end speculation, saying it was "time to make a stand".

Downloads now account for about 80% of singles sales in the UK.

"When you're tied to the album format, you find yourself waiting six months between finishing a record and releasing it," said Wheeler.

"By leaving this behind, we can record a track and release it the next day if we feel like it.

"We're the first band to do this, but I very much doubt we'll be the last."

Ash release their new album, Twilight of the Innocents, on 2 July. The band say they will still release compilations of their singles in the future.

Hailing from Downpatrick, Northern Ireland, the band are primarily known as a singles act.

Formed as a three piece in 1992, they have had 17 top 40 hits in the UK, including Angel Interceptor, Girl From Mars and Burn Baby Burn.

Fourth member Charlotte Hatherley joined in 1997, but left last year to pursue a solo career.

Nothing new about that move to release stand-alone singles, but it's nice to see that concept getting bought back.
