^I agree. I want Angus and Julia Stone to be nominated as well.

Has anyone here heard the new record from The Boat People, a brisbane band?

Oh yes, Angus and Julia should be nominated too!

I've only heard the single "Damn Defensive", it's pretty good. Would you recommend the record?

A+J should be a nom soon and i would say they would go in as favourites to win the thing. but thats just my opinion.

Have fun grace!

BTW FOALS = EPIC last night. Seriously, one of the best live shows I have EVER seen.

Last EVER you'd expect a good show. Hot Chip good too? I love sold out gigs.

man the crowd went nuts to hot chip and from alot of the reaction ive been reading after the gig a great deal of people preferred hot chip to lcd. im really not sure what they saw in them. even though i LOVE their latest album, i thought they sounded a little messy and incoherent live.

Splendour live on triple j tonight

7-45PM - Angus + Julia Stone

9-15PM - The Temper Trap

i will try to record these sets but no promises sorry.

Crowded House suit Town Halls/Theatres/Those kinda places much more than Arena's. I wish they would just play 1-2 nights at those kind of venues instead.

lcd soundsystem wants to return to australia at least once more on this tour. not sure how i feel about that.

i recorded angus + julia. turned out really well. but unfortunately i had to turn off my radio before temper trap hit the stage.

last night lcd soundsystem confirmed they will returning to australia next year..............

Does anyone here have the basement birds album and would like to upload it for me? It would be greatly appreciated. I hate living in a small country town where there are like no CDs anywhere.

Woooooo!

Splendour in the Grass was FANTASTIC!!!

Sorry it's taken me so long, I haven't been feeling that great the last few days! Though it's entirely my own fault :P

Anyway, I might ramble so I'll spoil my "review" (probably just more of a story :p) for those of you who don't care

Thankfully the weather was pretty much perfect for the festival, very warm for winter and it only rained on Wednesday night so our tent held up ok :P

Getting there at about 11.15am on Wednesday meant we got a campsite in the best section, only about a 4 minute walk to the festival entry. It also meant we hardly had to wait to get in - whereas people who arrived on Thursday were delayed up to 9 hours!

So, Thursday pretty much nothing happened. The festival site minus the amphitheater opened at 4pm so we took the chance to have a look around the grounds, which were very well suited, though some of the pathways were possibly a little narrow for such a large crowd.

FRIDAY

First act of the festival was unearthed Jinja Safari at the amphitheater. At the end the boys from Art vs Science joined them onstage, it was a pretty fun set and I plan on getting their EP when it released. Next we headed to the GW McLennan tent and watched Joy Formidable from a good vantage point on the hill next to the tent. We got a little carried away talking to a couple of other festival-goers so stayed there for Dan Sultan's set and the start of Washington. We then headed to the Mix Up tent for Foals but made the mistake of getting there only about half an hour before they started. This meant I got a position in about the 6th/7th row (which for me still means I can't see :p). Their set was one of the best of the day, and although I had to leave to pit (for fear of getting crushed - the crowd was pretty ruthless!) and I couldn't see for most of the time they sounded amazing, and Spanish Sahara was breathtaking to hear live. We then took a (much-needed) break and headed back up to the amphitheater to catch the end of Little Red's set. We then headed into the pit and secured a front row spot for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (who I don't know very well, but they were awesome!!!), Angus & Julia Stone (who were perfect, as expected) and the Temper Trap, who were one of the highlights of the night. Any of you that listen to Triple J will be aware that Mumford & Sons joined them on stage for Down River, and that was possibly one of the highlights of the whole festival! I went almost embarrassingly crazy when they came on stage but it was so unexpected and I couldn't help myself! :P I also heard one new song, though I can't remember which one he said it was. Unfortunately I left Temper Trap about 15 minutes early (to my dismay) with my friend, so that we could catch the majority of Grizzly Bear's set. These guys were fantastic live, Two Weeks and While You Wait For the Others were brilliant. A perfect way to end day one!

SATURDAY:

We again started the day at the amphitheater, with Gypsy & The Cat - incidentally, their first ever festival performance. I really enjoyed hearing some of this band's other stuff, and although they're not brilliant performers yet I'm willing to give them time :P. Next up was Jonathan Boulet, who had an excellent stage presence but the sound was overall a bit messy. Next, headed to the Mix Up tent for Two Door Cinema Club, one of my most highly-anticipated acts of the festival. They definitely didn't disappoint, with one of the best performances of the weekend. I even managed to get a setlist that accidentally blew off the stage :D. I kept my front-row position then for Delphic, who also delivered a brilliant performance. They seamlessly blended some of their songs together which sounded fantastic and the lead singer was really good with the crowd! We then took a quick break then headed back to the amphitheater and entered the mosh at the end of Operator Please. I've never been a big fan of this band, and seeing them live hasn't really helped, lol. We managed to get a spot in the second row and stayed there until before the Strokes, when the people in front of us left and we got to take their place in the front row. Anyway, next on the list was Tame Impala, and although I really enjoyed their debut, my respect for this band has since quadrupled. They're so new to the game (well, kind of) and their sound is really impressive live. And the bass player is so young!! He looks like he's only about 16! After those guys was Wolfmother, and although the singer was trying it was pretty clear that the crowd was just there for Florence and didn't really get into it much. Next was Florence & The Machine, and WOW what a performance! I've never seen anything like it, she was dancing and spinning and running across the stage, and singing with such passion and emotion... it really was a breathtaking performance. And I'd have almost killed to have been able to see properly (as the guy in front and to the right of me was REALLY tall so I couldn't really see when she went to the right of the stage). Finally, The Strokes came on stage and delivered a set pretty much identical to how I'd imagined it would be - energetic, fun and definitely worth the 6-hour wait! I don't know what Julian Casablancas is usually like as a frontman but I have to say it really seemed like his heart wasn't in the performance. But it was still a fantastic set and a perfect way to end day two!

SUNDAY:

We started the day a little later, as we first packed up our tents and packed the car. First act of the day was Frightened Rabbit, and I only know their album 'The Winter of Mixed Drinks' but they were brilliant, the lead singer was fantastic with the crowd, shouting out to random people and involving the audience a lot. All in that fantastic scottish accent :wacky:. We then retired to the hill (we were starting to feel the effects of the last two days) to watch The Mess Hall, who were definitely my least favourite performance. I really didn't enjoy their set at all, the sound was messy and I generally just didn't enjoy in. I moved as close to the stage as I could then get without going into the pit for Surfer Blood, who I thought were fantastic live and in hindsight I think it would've been great fun to have been in the mosh, the crowd was really getting into them. We then had about an hour to spare (I think that was the biggest break we'd had all weekend :P) and then headed to the GW McLennan stage at the end of Fanfarlo's set, so we could watch Whitley (because my friend is completely in love with him, even though I'm not particularly partial :P). His performance was ok, he was really broody though which bothered me a bit, he gave the impression that he didn't really want to be there, I thought. Anyway, we went back to the amphitheater to catch the second half of The Vines' set, and although I had been planning on going into the pit I immediately decided that if I did I would probably not be able to secure a spot where I could see for the next two acts, so I settled for a spot at the next barrier. Passion Pit were next on, and after missing out on them at Big Day Out I was delighted to be able to see them, and the set was a lot of fun! There were moments when the entire (full) amphitheater was up and dancing, it looked incredible. Finally came the act I had been looking forward to all day, Mumford & Sons. These guys impressed me so much, they were so humble and nice, and kept thanking the crowd and saying how pleased they were to be there, and how genuinely thankful they were at how 'kind' australia had been to them. Most of the songs sent shivers down my spine - though that could also have had something to do with the fact that that night was freezing and I barely had a coat! Also heard two new songs, "Matthew's Room" and another one to which I can't remember the name. I decided to stay there then for the Pixies - I'd been debating with myself the whole time whether to see them and then decided that, well, the Pixies were almost legendary so I thought I should see them while I could. Sadly I left after the third song, because not one of us was enjoying it at all. There was no crowd interaction whatsoever, they were literally just standing there playing songs. And we weren't actually enjoying the music, so we went back to the main grounds and watched about half an hour of Empire of the Sun before heading back to camp so that we would miss out on the traffic. Unfortunately, as it so happened, my car had a flat battery when I got to it so I didn't get home til 3am, and then an 8am lecture the next morning meant that I've pretty much slept for the past three days. That, coupled with the fact that I've also had no voice (maybe I sang a little too loud...) and I managed to give myself a cold too.

But it was SO worth it.

I'll post my pics/vids as soon as I get organised enough to upload them :D
