Massive FALLS FESTIVAL announcement tomorrow morning 9am! Looking forward to this. Because it pretty much sorts out BDO too to an extent. And Laneway.

And in other news, Mark Ronson and M.I.A have been pretty much confirmed for BDO 2011.

And my good money would be on Kings Of Leon Headlining, with Arcade Fire 2nd last act.

So from what I know, I am guessing (so far):

Kings of Leon

Arcade Fire

Silverchair

Chemical Brothers

Angus & Julia Stone

M.I.A

Daft Punk

MGMT

John Butler Trio

My Chemical Romance

Pendulum

Cut Copy

The Ting Tings

Mark Ronson

Andrew WK

Birds of Tokyo

Bliss N Eso

Foals

The Streets

Ok Go

Art Vs Science

The Black Keys

Sparkadia

Operator Please

Children Collide

Boy & Bear

(im going to keep modifying this until the sep announcement to see how close I get)

KOL @ BDO = Not Going

Reasons?

  • Author

im doing summer school this year so it will take a very good line up or a very good headliner to get to spend a whole day there and the next day recovering. very good headliner means something bigger than arcade fire.

Fair call. Kol would be an awesome headliner. Who would entice you to BDO?

  • Author

im in a very Stroke-sy mood tonight so i feel like saying them. anything jack white related will have me there or anything dave grohl related. interpol would be wicked but they dont seem very BDO-ish.

you might want to get rid of the chem bros from your list. they're doing Future fest in march. daft punk can sell out a 30 000 capacity show in 30 seconds so i dont think BDO will appeal to them.

I'm always in a strokes mode so that would be amazing. Yeah you are right about chemical brothers, they are coming in march. Daft punk could easily close the boiler room but it's a long shot. The other festivals are just too small. The falls announcement should eliminate a few from the bdo list.

the thought of daft punk in the boiler room made my head spin a little.

I think instead of having an open voting process for each of the world denominations for record of the year, I think maybe like for example: the best australia record of the year could be voted for internally and presented by the members that regulary post in the Official Aussie Music Thread.

Hey, would you guys be interested in doing this for the WoM awards?

yeah i would love to. i was thinking we would do it Mercury Prize, Aus Music Prize style where the 7 or 8 of us who are the biggest contributors to this thread sit down and discuss a shortlist of albums and over a few sessions we try and reach an unanimous decision on one album as the aus album of the year. i just think that if we were to vote separately and then calculate it we wont get the best result because theres only a handful of us.

what do you guys think?

Oh my god the falls line up is terrible. Leaves the door wide open for big day out. As Jamie pointed out, the big drawcards are the national and Interpol. Last year had such a better line up!

Aussie mercury prize style idea sounds good. We are all healthy debaters and can discuss the albums on their merits.

Time to modify my BDO prediction:

Kings of Leon

Arcade Fire

Silverchair

M.I.A

Daft Punk

MGMT

John Butler Trio

My Chemical Romance

yeah falls fest doesnt seem worth the journey down south. would be much better of staying home and catching 2 or 3 sideshows namely interpol the national and klaxons.

im starting to agree with you alex, i think KoL are almost shoe ins for BDO 2011. but it would seem odd for AF to play second fiddle once more, they played second last in 2008 (after Bjork canceled) and i would like to think they've come a long way since then.

Arcade fire have come a long way, but they still aren't a #1 ARIA artist in Australia, of which KOL are. SO I think the 1-2 could be reasonable, with an Aussie act third last.

As for that falls lineup, If I went I would be interested in

Interpol

Joan Jett And The Blackhearts

The National

The Living End

Public Enemy – Performing In Full Their Masterpiece ‘Fear Of A Black Planet’

Klaxons

Angus And Julia Stone

Tame Impala

The Rapture*

Ladyhawke

Cold War Kids

Sleigh Bells

Peaches – DJ/Karaoke/Performance Art Set (!)

Hot Hot Heat

Paul Kelly

Ash Grunwald

Children Collide

The Beautiful Girls*

The Soft Pack

Dan Sultan*

The Morning Benders

The Cool Kids

Junip

Kitty, Daisy And Lewis

Marina And The Diamonds*

The Middle East

Cloud Control

Yacht Club DJs

Washington

Boy And Bear

Sally Seltmann*

The Bamboos

Tijuana Cartel

A-Trak*

Edan The Dee-Jay*

Vampire Weekend’s Chris Baio

Beardyman*

The Cuban Brothers*

World’s End Press

Casiokids

Dan Kelly

Daara J Family

Jamaica

Charlie Parr

Jonathan Boulet

The Jezabels

Big Scary

Last Dinosaurs

Sampology

Eagle And The Worm

I think that's a great idea :D

It's not terrible, but it's easy for me not to be upset to be missing it. National, Interpol and Klaxons sideshows sound good though.

The BDO shortlist you've drawn up is awesome Alex, I get a feeling that even if you're only half right it will be epic!!! Better start saving now.

Excellent, so it's decided. I'll tell them that we will present and decide on the award. I'm quite looking forward to this actually.

Im having new happy thoughts towards Falls now. Probably will go, too.

It will be 80% right. Im sure.

Hmm, I was hoping that Arcade Fire would be the only big act on the lineup for me so I could get away with just going to a sideshow. But I might just have to go anyway :P

are you going to stand by that? i think you listed about 25 bands there, so you need 20 on the line up to be right. i'll buy your BDO ticket if you're right :P

Haha, this could get interesting :P

Haha, if 20 of those bands were there I would die of excitement

I'm scrapping mystery jets from my big day out prediction. The Sydney field day line up was released today and they were on it. So my prediction now is that mystery jets will be on the 2nd falls announcement for sure. Which is awesome I must go now!
