Why isn't Little Red on that list?

Forgot :P

Besides, contemporary Aus music is probably the best Aus music in most cases.

You also forgot...

I just listened to the Seabellies debut LP, By Limbo Lake, and it was excellent. I highly recommed everyone to at least take a listen, it's great stuff; one of my favourite aussie albums this year.

.

I didn't want to overwhelm the girl ok??

I love the way you keep quoting yourself

I'll endeavour to check them out.

You've probably got a point there, but there is so much good australian music.

And I need to keep quoting otherwise people will just forget and it would be a pity because its so good.

Oh, crud, I had almost forgotten about this thread. Haha.

Thanks, Grace, for not wanting to "overwhelm" me. That's probably a good idea, given that I'm very ADD when it comes to listening to new things. :laugh4:

Anyway, it does help that I already listen regularly to The Middle East and The Temper Trap. When I get to a computer with a good connection and an audio outlet, I'll look at that lovely vid collection of yours. :nice:

do any of the aussies here use pitchfork.com?? i know theyre much hated by many people. but theyre such great supporters of australian music. theyve reviewed pretty much every great aussie album of this year, given most a very good score (awesome ratings to tame impala and grinderman) and theyre really throwing their weight behind the middle east.

Filter magazine isnt far behind they have 3 or 4 aussie albums in each of their seasonal releases. its nice to know that aussie music is still relevant on the international scene.

Agreed.

And I've never had anything to do with pitchfork, really. Why do people hate them so much?

their too cool for school approach. they can also be inexplicably cruel towards some acts and worship others. but i admire how comprehensive they are and their reviewers are very good writers. above all i love the attention they give to aussie music.

Yeah, since about a month ago I started visiting it and now I visit it everyday. They do give good reviews to Australian music and I enjoy reading their articles and news.

Washington aren't so bad but true, compared to the other group, it is pretty poor. Do youse think JBT will get a nomination?

They are very comprehensive. They say any publicity is good publicity and that is often the case. Even if an album gets a not-so-good review I will still have a look some of the songs on it just because its on the site. Their lists however, are a bit controversial but the best new music label is usually on spot.

if birds of tokyo and bliss n eso deserve a nomination then so does JBT.

wouldnt be surprised if Richard in Your Mind gets a nod too.

EDIT: by the way thats 300 posts on here for me :D

Of course, if the album we don't like wins, we can always just discuss it at the Australian Coldplaying Album of the year Panel Discussion Meetings or ACAYPDM for short.

Woo!!

Best acronym ever  When are those awards, btw?

Edit: Parklife maps/times finally came out! They put Wombats on at 3:00pm.. EFFF. I really hope I get the bar near that stage now (it's clearly the best stage anyway - Last Dinosaurs, Darwin Deez, Wombats, Kele, Dandy Warhols and Cut Copy all playing on that stage...) cos I'll probably still be working at that time.

i was thinking we would put together a shortlist once everyones exams and stuff is over or they dont have as much pressure from work or whatever. for me personally that would be late november.

after that we can discuss things for a couple of weeks then hopefully reach an unanimous decision.

^Yeah that works for me. Can't wait until then. Are the any more major Australian releases this year that we are anticipating?

  • Author

listening to Cog tonight :D brilliant band who deserve far more success than they have enjoyed in the 10 yrs theyve been a band.

Late november will be exam time for me, but I suppose that's my own fault for going to the uni I go to :P

Whenever you guys decide to do it I'll make sure I make some free time!

So, I'm going to see Angus and Julia tomorrow night. I'm not as excited as I normally would be simply because it's the third time I'm seeing them in as many months... but the friend I'm going with is really excited so it should be good

And then, of course, PARKLIFE on Saturday :awesome: :awesome:

PSYCHED!

  • Author

but the other two times were at that bridge opening and splendour right? did they have their full stage set up at either performance?

^That's right, and no they didn't. So I'm really looking forward to seeing the setup! And I am still looking forward to seeing Angus and Julia, of course! :D

EDIT: Just got back from seeing the duo. Best show I've seen by them, definitely! You wouldn't know they'd been on tour for well over a month now! Had a good spot at the top of the theatre so I could sit down, heard a few new songs which is always good.

Great show, as expected!

BDO announcement in 26 hrs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Author

^^

did you see the clues? arcade fire seem more and more likely by the day. and by the sounds of things we might have a genuine double headliner BDO.

Yeah the clues really didn't help. Just ruled out a few. I am going to stay up until midnight to see the announcement if anyone wants to chat here about it later

And I realised recently that Arctic Monkeys never came here to tour Humbug properly. Dog act.
