Hey Gang, sorry I havent been on for a while, Uni is killing me. Like for real. When I saw this forum got shut down I took it as a blessing because it used to be a bit of a distraction. But I checked tonight and it's back up. Interesting.

Been following the BDO rumours which are getting rediculous. According to sources now, Tool are headlining and Arcade Fire and KOL are doing their own tours, not BDO. Can't wait to discuss the proper announcement. Just got HEAPS to do on assignments/exams/thesis before Oct 18 deadline. Only a month to go, woo!

Oh and as for my upcoming gigs, I got some more recently:

Oct 05 - Cloud Control

Oct 23 - Boy & Bear

Oct 29 - Powderfinger

Nov 05 - Crowded House

Nov 20 - Manic Street Preachers

Dec 01 - U2 / JayZ (night #1)

Dec 03 - U2 / JayZ (night #2)

Dec 08 - Jack Johnson

Dec 11 - Gorillaz

Dec 14 - Muse

EPIC

And where the fuck is this new Coldplay record. Seriously.

welcome back mate

personally think the Tool rumours are bullshit. still pretty confident that KoL are headlining and arcade fire are going to play second fiddle (although im quietly hoping they do their own tour) at the moment im thinking that Maynard will be bringing down A Perfect Circle instead.

at the moment my post exam schedule includes, guns n roses, korn, muse, linkin park and U2 and thats just the first 2 weeks after i finish exams lol. i might tone things down after that, maybe just restrict myself to interpol, the national and arcade fire for the rest of summer.

Tool, headline BDO? Wahahahahaha

just no :D

i dont think i/we properly welcomed you to our thread. so hello and welcome :D

if you dont mind could we get a quick run down on you. which city are you from? how old are you? who are your favourite bands? who are your favourite aussie bands? who have you seen live?

have you heard many 2010 albums? cos we're really looking to have more people on our panel/team to choose this thread favourite aussie album of the year. at the moment i think theres 7 of us, but imo 8 would be an ideal number.

im sure we'll learn lots more about you over the coming months. :D

Sure. I've done it on that new member thread though. I'm Melbournian, 25, currently work as an ESL teacher. Some of my most fav bands are Meg & Dia, Yellowcard, The Killers, Grace Potter & Nocturnals, Automatic Loveletter, and Silverchair. Narrowing it down to Oz bands, Silverchair, Eskimo Joe, Youth Group, and Missy Higgins are off the top of my head.

And I've been exploring music more than ever now, so yeah, I've listened to a lot of 2010 albums. And yeah, I'll be more than happy to participate on that thread. :)

aria award noms are out on the 28th. i will be absolutely livid if tame impala, angus n julia and cloud control are not recognised for album of the year.

alright a couple of things

blink 182 has been confirmed as headliners for the 2011 BDO by danny clayton who i would say is a reliable source as he is one of the main presenters on channel v who are a principal sponsor of the event. unless the rest of the line up is mind blowing i think i'll be missing this. but im all but set for sunset sounds. :D

just came back from tame impala. they only did a 60min set but it was brilliant. the sound was clear and sharp for a change we werent being deafened by the reverb. the band went from song to song with great coherence and confidence and i really admired that. even better was the fact that instead of doing the usual thing and only playing new songs. they played 4 songs from innerspeaker including solitude is bliss which got a great reaction but they also through most of the songs from the EP and their cover of Remember Me which was the highlight of the show. cant wait to see them again at sunset sounds, for the 4th time!! haha

I heard he's in trouble now for leaking that info. I guess it still needs confirmation as to how reliable that is.

Rumour has it Rolf Harris is working on a new album.

Hmm, depending on the rest of the lineup I may end up doing the same thing. Don't really care much for Blink 182.

Haha, 'Remember Me' was probably the highlight of their Splendour set for me, sooo good! :D

Also, Gypsy and the Cat revealed last night on their facebook page that their debut album "Gilgamesh" will be released on October 22nd in Aus! :awesome:

I just listened to the Seabellies debut LP, By Limbo Lake, and it was excellent. I highly recommed everyone to at least take a listen, it's great stuff; one of my favourite aussie albums this year.

Yeah well these BDO rumours are just getting pathetic. If Blink Headline, I will be elsewhere! It will be Bogan heaven.

-courageously steps into Aussie thread-

I don't really know much about Aussie music, but I thought this thread might be a good place to share.

Anyway, I recently started listening to Pendulum, and I rather like them. I discovered them while listening to Last.fm radio on, oddly enough, the Muse channel. Anyway, while I don't really know too much about "techno" sounding music (I say that vaguely. I'm well aware Pendulum are drum-and-bass.), I listened to "The Other Side," and I was like, "Oh wow, that sounds legit. Lemme get some of that." Hence, I did. :nice:

personally i recommend you check out The Presets and Cut Copy. far superior aussie techno. you should try Pnau also. Pendulum pales in comparison.

Hope you all don't mind my noob-ery in this thread :\ just looking to discuss the wonders of Australian music with fellow Aussies :)

I am really loving Pendulum at the moment, their newer stuff I really really enjoy :) I hear over in the US there's a bit of trouble with them not releasing their music onto iTunes... or something...

Going to agree there about Cut Copy... they are amazing :D new album soon? :)

Haha, why do people seem scared with this thread? :P

Yes, Cut Copy FTW. New album out early next year :awesome: Speaking of Cut Copy, TOTALLY (hopefully) seeing them at Parklife this weekend, woo!

Pendulum have got a slightly different sound to them/Pnau/Presets, they're a lot heavier imo. It just depends on your tastes, my brother would pick Pendulum over Cut Copy any day.

^listen. He tells the truth!

OK, I'll look into that in the very near future. Thanks!

Yay. -highfive-

Well, I didn't get my music from iTunes, so I wouldn't know about that.

Well, I feel like a n00b in here. I've had very little exposure to the Australian music scene. I didn't want to walk in here and have everyone be like, "Oi, what's this American who doesn't know anything doing in here?" I know I shouldn't have thought that, though, since you guys are too nice for that.

Anyway, back to Pendulum. That's part of the reason I like them, is their heaviness. I'll let you guys know who I like better after I legitimately listen to Cut Copy.

On a completely unrelated note, I'd like to mention that I eagerly await for Little Comets' debut album. "Adultery" was the opener on my mixtape for MTE 6, and I really liked it a lot. :nice:

I'll end with a question. What would you as Australians recommend to an American in order to give them a basic understanding of your music? This isn't to say that Australian music is radically different, but this has made me realize that maybe I need to expand my horizons a bit. Out of my entire music library, 6 artists are Australian. :shame:

:

if u want something heavier then go for The Presets. in particular songs like Eucalyptus and Kicking n Screaming.

How much heavier are they? I mean, I like heavy, but I have a limit. This is why I don't listen to heavy metal that has a lot of screaming.

Also, is this to say that Cut Copy is much lighter in nature?

  • Author

^^

yes cut copy is quite soft. the presets have a more club anthem sound going. take a listen and judge for yourself :)

...Club anthem? I'm a tad confused.

^^Haha, you'll just have to listen to them then

As for other Aussie artists, I don't really know any that 'sum up' the Aussie music scene concisely. Here's some songs by Aussie artists - some old, some new. I've tried to incorporate a few genres so you can find what you like :)

HELLZ YEAH!! It's summer almost all year round here anyway so it doesn't make that much difference, lol. I'm still waiting on the set times to be released, I want to know who I'm going to be able to see! (who isn't on when I'll be working...) :awesome:

That is the most PERFECT list to describe Australian music :D
