So, who's been an ipod elitist before? What drives you?

 

*raises hand* I think I've been guilty a couple of times. :embarassed:

 

You know the sort- you're at a party and the host doesn't have anything good on. So someone says you have to all hear this song- and puts on something obscure and fussy that no one else 'gets'. Bang. Dead party. And worst of all the person doesn't even realize it, they're so self-satisfied with their own superior choice.

 

Or even worse, two people with opposite taste get in a war over the sound system and ignore everyone else.

 

There was a really interesting article in Maclean's Magazine about how portable digital media lets anyone hijack the playlist at a party thinking they're the ultimate amateur dj, and how it isn't always a good thing. Click here for the article. A slightly embarrassing read, I have to say. I really try not to be snobby about what I like. I'm not sure anyone who cares about what they're listening to can totally avoid becoming *that person*. (And sometimes it's called for.)

 

My biggest weakness is when everyone starts picking out songs and they're all totally different from what I like to listen to. So I throw mine into the pile and everyone is just like :blank: and then I get paranoid.

I know I have different tastes, so I have to listen to Sexy Bith, Poker Face, Fire burnin' on the dancefloor, etc etc When I'm with friends....

If I had friends I'm sure I'd encourage my music tastes upon them...

i do think my taste is superior to that of my friends, unfortunately it's me against ALL of them...sooooo i always fail to get my point across... sad, really.

Problems no one could have even imagined exist today! In the olden days (back when they planted the MTV flag on the moon), it was whoever ran the party chose the tunes - and there was generally less music diversity for tastes and styles to conflict. Hmm.. well, obviously there needs to be some house rules at the party houses!:P

I love the music I listen to but I know no one else would listen to it because they are all like hiphop/pop/mainstream stuff. So i dont bother.

I made all of my friends Coldplay fans somehow, so now I can at least tolerate their choices. None of my friends actually have horrible taste in music, though...

it depends on how entrenched they are in their current tastes. the best friends I've had were a metalhead and an obscure punk/glam-rock fan respectively. At best I couldget them to appreciate my taste in music, but I could never convert them to my musical worldview.

My friends are into really pop stuffs like Britney Spears. But I can still tolerate that.

What I can't though is when someone puts on Korean pop songs.

It drives me insane that I will just take out my ipod or leave the room immediately.

I know I should loosen up a bit because I'm with my friends but I just can't stand the songs.

*Feels guilty*

I only did it once, I was in control of the DJ booth and music for the whole evening at a friend's wedding (e.g. the iPod) a couple of years ago. Some of it was shockingly bad, but I couldn't be criticised though, the only music on the iPod was the wedding playlist the bride and groom had chosen :P

I have to admit a wedding was the only place I've ever really appreciated the Black Eyed Peas- they got almost everyone dancing... :uhoh2:

i do it ALOT but not infront of freinds.. there is nothing better than going through a shop or marketplace wearing head phones... none of the pesky shop owners bother you..... you know the ones that ask if you need any help vacantly staring at a bunch of crap you niether need or can afford...

So you mean I can't play those rare b-sides from that brit-pop band from the mid 90s?

Depends... are most people going to like them? Will you stop if they don't? :thinking:

this is why it's awesome for me that i love ALMOST every type of music.

A person at my school today brought a list of all these "good" song the we "definitely should" have. I looked at the list and did a huge facepalm. All of the song were mainstream, played frequently on the radio, some months old and none of them by an artist that didn't rap, wasn't teenage, or hadn't won american idol.

One time I had my Kid A CD on me, so I decided to play it during my drawing class and everyone hated it. Ashamed, I had to slowly sneak my way to the back, try as discretely as I could to take out my CD and switch it to the radio.

 

At the same time, I know that most people are completely disinterested in what I listen to and probably would hate 90% of it, so unless I know it's something they might like, I mostly just try to keep to my music to myself.

I even just played some greenday through my ipod (with extended speakers) and my friend was like "WTF, Boulevard Of Broken Dreams?!"

 

then I just clamly said like "what do you expect? Some Chris Brown shit? :dozey:"

 

 

I am one of the two poeple in my classroom who can rap some LP. Most of my classmates are bombarded with all these 'shit/dope' tracks.

This is why I don't bring an iPod in these sort of situations.

 

Mainly because I have all kinds of random crap on mine just to repel me from doing this.
