Pitchfork.com reported yesterday that Mew would be releasing a new Live EP, but those plans have been cancelled. Rumors on the internet are tying this to singer/guitarits Jonas Bjerre and his involvement in Apparatjik.

n other Mew news, lead singer/guitarist Jonas Bjerre has teamed up with Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman and a-ha guitarist/keyboardist Magne Furuholmen for a new band called Apparatjik. The group has an amazingly annoying website and the video for their debut single "Electric Eye" is embedded below. The song sounds like 1985's version of the future.

This has led to further speculation that Coldplay may either break up or go their separate musical directions in the not so distant future.

"We've still got our own hair, we can still fit into our musical trousers and we've got to make the most of that."

About a year ago Chris Martin made comments such as

I'm 31 now and I don't think bands should keep going past 33

So should Coldplay fans be panicking that in the not so distant future they won't be able to sing Viva La Vida together at shows? Probably not. But if they do break up, don't be surprised.

Live recording misunderstanding

Dear everyone, as you may have heard or read or picked up telepathically there’s been talk about a bunch of live tracks from the Hollywood Palladium to be released exclusively on iTunes. While this all sounds well and good, there has been a slight miscommunication somewhere along the line. We in the band had not planned on releasing any live material for sale, although we may well do this at a later point. As you know we are very particular about our releases (which is partly why we take so damn long making the albums!) and this too is the case with any live releases we might put out. When we do put out live recordings, we want to make certain it’s recorded right, mixed right, that it’s our own show and not a support slot, basically that everything is done the Mew way and upholds our high standards. This particular recording we have not been involved with. We apologize for any confusing we may have caused. Thank you - Mew.

I doubt that Coldplay will break up for a very very long time. They may take a break for say 5 years or something but the band are very close to each other and if they ever did break up it'd be inevitable surely that they'd reform on the basis of a very strong bond within the band. There are no egos. Personally I would be very shocked if Coldplay split up.

All this ridiculus rumors are tiring..... According to media, Coldplay is on the verge of breakin up for 10 years now :P

To put an end to 'Ohmy-god-Guy-will-quit-CP-for-Apparatjik', here's what Jonas said in ITV

“I met Magne [Furuholmen] in Moscow and just struck up a conversation about art and really hit it off. And later on we got together to do a project for this BBC series Amazon. We made a song for that series, which was in support of indigenous tribes. We just got along really well, and we went skiing and stuff like that. A bunch of stuff just happened. I think it’s very important to us that it’s not set in stone what it is we’re doing. We just kind of do what we feel like. And it’s more of an art project than it is a band. So I don’t really know what’s going to happen. We just take one day at a time.”

End of discussion.

I'd have to agree. I can see them taking an extended break, maybe after the next album but I don't think they'll break up for good.

I hope I'm right :D
