D'oi.

I have to say, was that it? This may be a stupid opinion, but some American reporter told BBC that this is one of the biggest Hockey games ever played in Canada, if not THE biggest. And the atmosphere was pretty dead. Anytime a team would score it would show their fans practically standing still with a nice grin on their face, not exactly chaos.

#1 This is Canada. As our American cousins will tell you, that should speak for itself.

#2 Football/Soccer fans are an entirely different breed. People don't usually sing and stuff in North American sports.

#3 They were clearly showing a different set of fans than the CBC was. Everyone was going insane there from what I saw.

North American fans are shit, they really are, they boo their own teams and everything, it's a horrible atmosphere

Other than Toronto FC that is.

When were we booing our own team? Booing calls, booing the US, but not booing Canada that I remember...

That was one of the best hockey games I've ever watched.

Was on fire.

Go USA! 3-0

It was a good game.
*muffled voice hiding under a pillow* Yeah it was. Too bad no one told our goalie.

You mean great!

Yes! :D

Maybe it was insanity by the normal standards. OK they weren't "practically standing still" but when the puck hit the back of the net there was a anti-climactic hush from the crowd. And the same when it ended.

I have been to hockey games in Canada a looong time ago, and remember it being really dull. This didn't seem like the electric match it should be.

Wait, are you seriously saying you expected them to make noise after a game they just lost? Or when the US scored?

If they felt anything like me, that 3rd goal was like a punch in the gut and I've been a bit queasy ever since.

It's called shock. The way it's been hyped we had the ultimate dream team and couldn't possibly even come close to losing anything (or else). Which is silly. But it will still shut a crowd up pretty quick when the tide turns.

Not sure if Brodeur is who should be between the pipes for Canada.

That being said Canada played a good game, they really did. They were physical and outplayed the US big time. Over twice as many shots. Miller was practically standing on his head for the team making a lot of big timely saves.

If Miller continues to play this hot the USA definitely has a good shot at the gold.

That being said I think Canada still has a pretty decent shot at the gold. They haven't played that bad, they just haven't been finding the back of the net.

They should be pretty focused and motivated going into the game against the Germans.

Hahaha didn't remember that it was majorly Canadian support (It's late).

But even when Canada scored, not a big reaction.

Ok, a refresher then.

-They started out insanely wound up (at least by local standards)

-The US scored the first goal. That shut the crowd up.

-Canada finally scores their first goal. The crowd goes nuts. Red is waving everywhere.

-Something like 10 seconds later the US scores goal #2. That shuts them up in a hurry.

-They tie it. The crowd is happy and noisy, but nervous. It's not like at the start. They're beginning to realize we might not win this one.

-The US scores goal #3. It all went downhill from there.

Congratz to the US on good crowd control, by the way. They really knew how to time things.

this.

Meh, no kidding. Honestly if it wasn't for Ryan Miller, the outcome of the game could have been verryyyyy different. Yeah, Team Canada wasn't that perfect maybe, Marty wasn't at his best, yeah he had some good saves, but he kept going behind the net in really bad timings and he well basically assisted the 2nd (?) goal for USA, and we kept making silly giveaways. But for one we out shot USA: 45-22. And whatever, this just means we have to play an extra game on Tuesday. Germany, here we come...

Canada's last two games they were up against goalies who really ran away with games. Now Canada just needs their goaltending to step it up a notch.

The crowd, being almost purely Canadian, went silent and then I think I heard boos here and there...and the American celebration was ok, but still seemed a little mild and short compared to what I would have expected, except that I wasn't surprised. And when they were shaking hands and such the Americans seemed slightly apologetic. Could almost have been saying "sorry, terribly sorry, sorry." Don't blame 'em though, with such a solid red and white crowd.

I don't know, maybe it's just me. I just felt like it was an awkward situation.

really fantastic hockey game. And to dig the knife in a little deeper, China just beat your women's curling team.

The thing with the Canada-USA game is it was still in the preliminary round. So a loss in that game for either team just meant not getting a bye to the quarterfinals.

The Canadians are playing the Germans in the qualification game. Now that isn't necessarily going to be a walk in the park and no opponent should be taken lightly, but they are a pretty weak team. Unfortunately the winner of that has to play Russia. However an Ovechkin-Crosby head to head dual would be quite something.

As for celebrations, usually in hockey after a win the celebrations are pretty mild if they are in regulation. Overtime victories you usually see more craziness. But I mean there is no reason to go crazy over a preliminary round win.
