Reading reviews is stressful (considering I dont have a mixtape yet to entertain myself), I hope my mixtape wont suck -_-

ok, everyone in the world: stop using rapidshare for a sec so I can download my mix please

violetsparks > that review was AWESOME, I feel ridiculous now...

(I think I guessed your Track 11 band :))

Thank you very much, Khalplay. :nice: Feel free to call me Violet, by the way; that's what everyone else calls me. :)

Don't be silly! Your review was just fine. In fact, I feel as if mine were a bit too long. Haha. I just tend to get into music a lot; that's part of the reason why I'm a music major at my university.

First thing first: THANKS to the person who did my mix! Overall, a mix that smells like teen spirit!

1-Wooo it's begining well! A great intro with a solo of saxo and then it switch to a quite catchy song with a male singing and some girls doing backups ont the backgrounf. It has a 90's feeling and a 'teenage' spirit (not pejorativ) 'we can live anywhere'. It's a very refreshing tune and a great opener! Me like it!

2- Again, a catchy tune and again, a 'teenage' spirit to it! This a tune that could easily be on the soundtrack of a trendy TV show like 'skins' or sthg. A man is lead with a girl backing up at times. It's catchy and I totally can picture myself listening to this during the summer! Good track!

3- This one is different, but continues on youth path with a young guy singing. He must be a teenager but he has a good voice. Remind me of The Moldy Peaches...even if I know it's not it. I don't really like the melody though, the 'noise' made by the strings became irritating to me in the end...

4- XDDD The song starts with a guy saying 'fucking croissant'! As a french, well, it wasn't hard to understand and it makes me laugh! Didn't expect a track opening like that! Again, a young guy singing and a track that seems recorded in a garage with friends. Feels home made but it has a catchy guitar!

5- This one starts with some beeping noize then switch of to something more 'normal', good guitar and a catchy chorus. A guy is singing this one.

6- This one is weirdo! Drums and a keyboard (?) I guess with some ethereal voices in the background but not audible enough to understand what it's saying. Very experimental...Not really liking this one.

7- Back to catchy again (sorry, I use this word a lot, but I don't know a better word in english XD).A summer track and again its smells like teen spirit. Very enjoyable *w*

8- Changing of mood! A laid back (?) track, soft and soothing. Some nice guitar and a guy singing. Dunno why but the 'atmosphere' reminds me of some Jeff Buckley's songs. Like it.

9- A song that starts quietly and again I find it very soothing. I like the guy's voice singing. In the middle of the song, it become more edgy with some good guitar/bass riffs. It reminds of Daughtry.

10- Totally different track here. Some electroish tune with a girl singing ethearically in the background. I would say it a good 'ambiance' track but not a favorite.

11- A 'mature' guy is singing. Great rythm in this song, I like it. I don't know why but I picture the desert when I'm listing to this, it feels like a western put into a song.

12- A country/folky song! A simple quitar/voice to open this one then it speeds up and drums and others instruments came in. It could be played in a open ball in texas or Alabama! Make me want to dance with boots and a stetson on!

13- Totally different type of song! A girl is singing with a piano and strings. It's really beautiful and moving. Love it.

14- Back in Texas again with a rocky/country song. reminds me of the early days of Kings of Leon. Like it!

15- Wooo this song is interesting. Opened very gently and softly (great bass line on that part) and then suddenly switch of something catchy, really rock'n'roll (specially the ending XD). Love the drums on that one!

16- A 'feel good' song to wrap this mix. Again, I could totally picture this in a movie sountrack. It's the kind of track that are addicting and easy loveable (?)!

To conclude, I really enjoyed this mix! I don't know ANY of the artists on this and I'm quite impatient to discover who they are!! It's really been a total discovery from track to track and I want to thx again my mysterious partner! I enjoyed the ride! ^__^

ok, everyone in the world: stop using rapidshare for a sec so I can download my mix please

:disappointed:

Your mix sounds like a lot of fun, a-chan. :)

Thank you very much, Khalplay. :nice: Feel free to call me Violet, by the way; that's what everyone else calls me. :)

Oh thank you for cheering me up Violet, everyone sounds so impressive but well... that's just a game after all :D

Your mix sounds like a lot of fun, a-chan. :)

It was!!!! Feels like I was in summer camp or driving on Route 66

Track 1: I really' date=' really, REALLY like this one. Throughout the first third of the song (approximately), I got this lovely Sigur Rós feel about it. However, it's a bit edgier than Sigur Rós, and I guess for that reason, I kinda like it better. I'm not sure yet, as I haven't listened to it enough yet. I confirmed it to not be some unknown Sigur Rós son when the singing started, as the singer sings in English. The singer's voice is actually quite reminiscent of Chris Martin, even though I know it's not Chris Martin. I appreciate the extensive use of borrowed chords in this song. I can't wait to find out the identity of this band/artist. This will probably be one of those bands that sticks with me[/quote']

Dunno why but by your description it 'sounds' like Mew... :sneaky:

This is very true. This was all just for fun, and I felt like I got a lot out of this. I feel with events like this, everyone wins. :nice:

HAHAHA. :cheesy:

I'm certain it's not Mew. The singer's voice is too deep.

More interesting... Can't wait to see what it is!! Your description really intrigue me, I LOVE Sigur Ros, so I'm eager to know what can be sound but not quite sound like them :D

So true :)

A-chan > lovely review, très leger! I can't wait to discover your tracklist either!

Oh man, violetsparks has already reviewed my mix! I enjoyed your review of it, violetsparks! I'll post the tracklisting in a while! :)

btw, could i add my own notes/comments on the tracks that i included? some sort of a rejoinder for the mixtape review?

Track 1

Ahh I know this song! It’s from Snow Patrol - Final Straw. What a great song to start an album, woo :D I love the power that is build up during its whole length.

Track 2

Kings of Leon – Sex On Fire :charming: Already listened to it up and down through the radio, but doesn’t change anything from its AWESOMENESS. The fast beat brings me to a party mood!

Track 3

Oh a new song for me! It’s very calm and has this soothing male singing voice. That’s like, totally my music genre, yeah! And I hear violins, my favourite music instrument. Great, The song gets louder and louder to its end, crazy guitar riffs and the singer’s voice spazzes  Anyway, fabulous track!

Track 4

It’s 15 Steps, these beats you just can’t forget! Radiohead rules, and so does this song. *moves head to the beat”

Track 5

Interesting, sad song. Nice piano at the background and electronic beats, cool combination! The old male voice fits perfectly to the atmosphere that the song creates. Oh and now I can hear some synths, nice! There is a nice acoustic guitar riff, too. Very relaxing. This comes straight into my favourite music folder :P

Track 6

Holy shat this is one sexy song :stunned: “Do you wanna do me, do me…” is what I can hear, if my pathetic English isn’t completely fooling me  Anyway, that song is catchy, and I like catchy songs muha.

Track 7

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHH OMFG IT’S RAMMSTEIN!!! :dance::dance:

Ahem excuse my sudden moment of fangirliness :sweatdrop: I’m just totally in love with this song! By the way it’s called “Frühling In Paris” and it’s from the new album which you should totally buy.

Track 8

Another sad sounding song, with nice guitar/bass riffs, and the male singer has a nice voice… he reminds me of another singer, but I can’t remember who argh! The song ends in a big explosion of heavy bass and guitar and drums and finally finishes with a few soft guitar notes. Sweet.

Track 9

Wow I like this one a lot! The guitars are fabulous, nice riffs. And so many instruments! I guess some of them are also electronic, but who cares. I can understand everything the singer sings, which makes me happy hahaahha :P The song has a nice chorus, with a soft playing piano in the background. The singer’s voice gets louder and stronger to the end of the song, which creates a nice powerful atmosphere. And then the cool guitar riff comes again. I feel a catchy tune stuck in my head coming up :uhoh:

Track 10

A beautiful instrumental piano piece. I know this melody from somewhere, but is it from…!?

Can’t remember, crap. Anyway, sounds very dramatic and gets catchy in the middle, like there is sitting someone who wants to show his piano skills hehe.

Track 11

:stunned: OHMYGOD you mixtape maker, I’m forever greatful, you just send me a song I was looking for AGES. It’s “Michael Stipe with Coldplay - In The Sun”. What can I say, REM is awesome, Coldpay is awesome, these both combined singing together… *drools* The piano is beautiful, Micheals voice is so warm. Oh dear. I better stop before I say anything more cheesy.

So I have to say I like this mixtape VERY much, especially that there are so many of my favourite songs in it and also a few that I didn’t know :D And again, THANK YOU SO MUCH for the “In The Sun” song, I’m listening to it for the 200 time now. :wacky:

A-chan > lovely review, très leger! I can't wait to discover your tracklist either!

When you said 'léger', does it means I haven't described enough?! I'm no good to dissect tracks with technical stuff so I've just put my impressions ^^

Your reviews are so greaaaat!! Your mixes seem to be really interesting! Can't wait to listen to them ^^

And can't wait to know who made my wonderful mix and the tracklist... PLEEEAASE PARTNER TELL ME!! XD

When you said 'léger', does it means I haven't described enough?! I'm no good to dissect tracks with technical stuff so I've just put my impressions ^^

Not at all, like ''une atmosphère légère'' :P I mean that it looks like it was pleasant and easy to listen to it.

Not at all, like ''une atmosphère légère'' :P I mean that it looks like it was pleasant and easy to listen to it.

Ah ok! And yes it was! Refreshing is the word! I don't know why it 'feels' autralian

here's the link to the mixtape: http://sharebee.com/67409fcd

Track 1: I really, really, REALLY like this one. I can't wait to find out the identity of this band/artist. This will probably be one of those bands that sticks with me. :)

Get Well Soon - Dear Tempest-Tossed, Dear Weakened

The singer's voice also reminds me of Chris Martin! I'm glad you like it. I included this song on the 3rd Mixtape Exchange, I cannot NOT add it this time as it's just one of those rare complex songs that sticks with you no matter what you do.

Track 2: This track starts off with a rather catchy bass line. The singer's voice isn't of a style that I'm familiar with, and therefore, I find it slightly off-putting. I will say that I rather like the lyrical content. Something tells me that because of that, this is an indie band of some sort. I appreciate the transition from duple to triple time; that sort of thing breaks any monotony that might be present in the song. Speaking of which, in those duple parts, I do like the higher male voice that sings with the lead in what I assume is the chorus of the song.

Why? - These Few Presidents

Why? is some sort of indie-rap outfit based in California.

Track 3: I got a sort of Nintendo feel at the very beginning due to the synths; it was rather cheeky. I disliked how I couldn't understand what the singer was saying; I was really having to listen closely. I did eventually find that this singer sings in English, which I suppose is a sort of plus. Ahhh, I just heard some bongos/other assorted drums. Very lovely. I feel that if the singer was different, I might appreciate the song more. The music itself is highly interesting, however, and for that alone, I appreciate the track.

Xiu Xiu - Yo Yo Bye Bye (Why? Cover)

It's an interesting song. I don't know, but I don't mind listening to it ten times in one sitting. I understand why you didn't like the singer. He's the kind that grows into you, IMO.

Track 4: My first impression was that this was some sort of synthy version of Interpol, even though I don't really know Interpol's music that well in itself. There's a lovely little trumpet lick in here that repeats itself in the music, and I really like it. The singer's not too bad, and I have determined that this is indeed not Interpol; the guy's voice isn't nearly as brash. Actually, this song kinda reminds me of Blue October. For this reason, I have a strong feeling this may be a work of The Frames, because The Frames remind me of Blue October. My mix person or Bryce can verify or disprove my theory. :)

Julian Plenti - Unwind

Sung by Paul Banks, the lead singer of Interpol.

Track 5: I heard the ukelele and automatically thought Beirut. Then I heard Zach Condon's voice playing through my ears and got excited. I'm extremely happy that my mix person put this in here. I must say, however, that although I recognize who this is, I don't know what this song is. I searched through my entire Beirut discography and didn't find a match. All I can say is that this song is either off an EP I don't have (which would have to be, by default, the Lon Gisland EP), it's from some side project that Zach Condon did, or I'm just that dumb and missed something. But anyway, thanks to my mix person. I can't wait to figure out what this one is.

Alaska in Winter - Close Your Eyes - We Are Blind (featuring Zach Condon)

Zach's voice is unmistakable. I'm glad you like this one.

Track 6: I love the opening cello bit in this song. This also has somewhat of an ambient feeling, but it contains more strings. The singer's voice is much better here; it's clear, crisp, and it doesn't bother me. It's a rather soft voice. Maaan, this string work is just lovely. Why do I feel like I've heard this particular singer before? It sounds familiar, although I don't know why, since I don't have anything like this in my music library. This is also an artist to look more into.

Owen Pallett (previously known as Final Fantasy) - The Chronicles of Sarnia

Track 7: "Hold on, hold on, children. Your mother and father are leaving, leaving." I can tell that from these lyrics, this song is going to be a bit depressing. The beginning confirms this mood. Then it suddenly goes into this faster tempo with a catchy, dance-like bass riff. I also detect a use of a clap machine. After the beginning part, I get this Franz Ferdinand feeling within the song. Considering I like Franz Ferdinand, this is a good sign. This song is catchy. I rather like this one. This string section here nearing the end is lovely, too.

Death from Above 1979 - Black History Month (Girl on Girl feat. Final Fantasy Revision)

The string parts were also done by Owen Pallett. I'm happy that you like his work.

Track 8: I got a grunge-ish feeling from the guitar in the beginning of the song. It's rather calming, actually. Then, the singer came in on a high B-flat. I wasn't bothered until he hit the following G so harshly. This song makes me think of Dashboard Confessional, although I'm pretty sure it's not that band due to the voice. This voice is a bit too shaky to be Chris Carraba's. Anyway, those harsh G attacks are really the only issue I have with this voice. It's a nice, subtle ending to the song as well. This song is simple, but good.

This Town Needs Guns - Crocodile

Your review like an expert! :) I'm not really good at technical stuff, so I don't have any idea about flats and Gs. But thanks for appreciating this tune. :)

Track 9: The ethereal beginning gave me a sense of this maybe being something ambient. Then the piano came in, which was lovely, and combined with the introduction of guitar, that changed my mind. I'm sorry, mix partner, but this guy's voice bothers me, particularly in his higher register. He sounds like a whiny old man. I'm not saying he is, and I'm not saying the song sucks, because I love the background music. I suppose this track is like Track 2, except the singer here is just like...ICK. :/ Well, I suppose one can't expect somebody to like EVERYTHING on the mixtape. I'm trying to be accepting, but it's taking a lot of effort on my part for this one. Maybe a few more listens will change my mind.

Sunset Rubdown - Silver Moons

It's OK not to like Sunset Rubdown. I hated the band with passion at first, but it grew on me.

Track 10: The beginning of this song reminded me of the previous track, but it was clearly different. I like the edition of the snare rim tips here, as well as the bass entrance. It's rather nice and seems to set the indie mood. When the singing got here (and it took a good while, actually), I was reminded of Blue October again, but in a different way. I find this song to be incredibly repetitive. While this may not be necessarily a bad thing, I was expecting for something else to happen, and it never did. In that sense, I was slightly disappointed. Not too bad, though.

Interpol - Direction

I admit this is not the usual Interpol stuff. But I like its simplicity.

Track 11: The beginning is very different. The bongos came in, and suddenly there's this minimal beginning. I was excited to hear there were two singers for this one: one male, one female. This one seems more pop-ish to me than the others for some reason. This one is also softer than a lot of the previous tracks, and I appreciate this track for not fitting into the molds which the other songs seemed to set. I have this foreboding feeling that this group is a two-person collaboration between the male and female. Again, I can't say for sure. It's a nice track either way.

The XX - Basic Space

Track 12: Hello! More synths, but in a different context. The added dissonances within the intro give this song texture that would've otherwise been nonexistent. The singer here again sounds familiar, even though I don't have this voice in my library. Maybe this was during one of my many YouTube excursions. Ewww, I just heard that G go waaay sharp. Actually, he does this on all of the Gs, it seems, which is unfortunate. At least the poor guy tried. This is again one of those tracks where I really like the background music. The guy's voice isn't, per se, terrible. I've heard much worse. I think it could be better, however.

Handsome Furs - Handsome Furs Hate This City

Track 13: I liked the waterfall effect in the beginning. It set the mood. I heard a lot of different accents that added to the musical context of the song, actually. It was rather pleasing to hear. I got even more excited when I realized the vocalist to this song is female. I got a bit of Oriental feel throughout the music, even though lyrically it's in English. The bass part in the song is quite catchy; I like it lots. I get the feeling that this band isn't from an English-speaking country; I'm not sure why. I'm probably wrong. :P

Arcade Fire - Haiti

Haunting song. And very relevant nowadays. :)

Track 14: Upon first listen, this song reminded me very much of The Killers, which is awesome. I detected a thick accent within the singing; I think it's Scottish. The background music (which vaguely reminded me of bagpipes) reinforces this assumption. This song is another one I REALLY like. I don't know, it has some sort of hidden quality that allows me to enjoy this a lot more than almost all the others. This is another track in which I can't wait for the revealing.
:)

The Twilight Sad - That Summer, At Home I Had Become the Invisible Boy

I love the accent. I'm glad you appreciate this one!

Track 15: The piano within this song is lovely simplicity. I love piano, and to hear it start off a song makes me happy. :wacky: OOOOOH, hello, lovely voice. I like this voice, too. It kinda reminds me of what I think Josh Groban would sound like if he weren't a trained operatic vocalist. Although I prefer Josh Groban to sing the way he does, I most certainly wouldn't mind if he sang this way on occasion. Maaan, this piano rockin' thing makes me happy. You know, I really like this one, too. This song is legit. As I get further into the song, the drumming starts to remind me more and more of what I would hear from Will Champion in some songs; "In My Place" specifically comes to mind. He proves near the end to have a lovely falsetto.

Shearwater - The Snow Leopard

One of my all-time favorites.

I'm very very happy that you generally like the mix. Thanks for listening. You made an awesome review of it!

reading the reviews I've just realized that my mix was several tracks longer than the usual, hope it wont be a problem :s

Fucking hell you guys how hard is it to put your files in a .zip or a .rar -___-

OMG, 13 was Arcade Fire!? That surprises me. You actually gave me a song of theirs that I rather liked. I've heard a few tracks by them that I didn't necessarily care for too much.

Also, I totally didn't think 10 was Interpol. Like I mentioned in the review, I don't know them that well, and what I've heard of them didn't sound anything like that.

Ahhh, so it WAS a side project for 5. Makes sense.

No wonder I liked 6 so much. I listened to his new album through a streaming link that Briggins had posted, and I loved it. :)

Thank you SO much, heartswarm.

dear creator of my mixtape, I can't find a single computer that will open my file through rapidshare, please upload the tracks again using mediafire or some other format.
