That's the one! Great concept! He was talking a lot, explaining songs and joking A LOT! He made a great complicity with the audience, at one point he was laughing at his own jokes he couldn't even sing... and he almost smash the head of a girl with his guitar while singing because he was standing at the edge of the scene and bending over her...

Me too. Always :D

Me too! When he got up on stage I was like 'where are the fluffly affro hair'?!!!

It's Apparatjik' style :laugh3:

What funny memories of moments during the gig :D I want to see him live even more now

And thanks for answering this question as I don't come very often on the board ;)

Mixtape Review: Chris [Tnspieler1012]

Some of the albums showed up. However, seeing as I didn't pay much attention to it, and seeing as I decided to hide the artists' names while listening, it won't matter much. :)

1. :inquisitive: This is bizarre. :laugh4: The talking introduction was pretty cool. Then the singing came in. When I first listened to this, I was like, "WTF is this? :wtf:" However, as I lsten to it now, I think I've gotten used to it, and I actually rather like it now. The beat and background music is nice. The "602" is pretty awesome; I like it. This song makes me wanna dance. Teehee.

2. The beginning of this song reminded me of the beginning of "The Big Bang" by Mannheim Steamroller, a new age group that formed in the '70s. I've listened to that group for years now. This isn't them, clearly, but this song reminds me of them. The beginning is ethereal and calm. The piano that comes in is very pretty and compliments the song nicely. The percussion here adds another layer to the song. I like instrumentals like this. Actually, I really like this song in general. The style is very intriguing to me; it's beautiful, in a spacey sort of way. Like, I can imagine this being played in the background of say, "Star Trek" or something. I like the ongoing shift between major and minor modes within this piece. The ending I found to be a tad extraneous, but despite that, I give this song an A+. This I need more of. :)

3. This one reminds me of folk music from the '60s due to the beat and feel. I like the vocalist here. This song is very soft and contrasts the previous track stylistically nicely. "Maybe I'm in love, love, love..." :wacky: This reminds me of a specific oldie, but I don't remember what it is for the life of me. The vocal harmonies are lovely in here. I need more of this.

4. The beginning is VERY pretty, with the piano and all. It kinda reminds me of a softer song of Radiohead (maybe like "Videotape" or something). It's funny, because with the vocals, I'm more reminded of Sigur Rós. I mean, the singer doesn't sound like Jónsi, but I am highly reminded of him when I listen to this guy. Maybe what I mean is that I see this as a Radiohead-Sigur Rós mix? The strings at the end of this are beautiful. :wacky: Gosh, this is good.

5. This is an interesting beginning. It kinda reminds me of the beginning of Modest Mouse's "Float On;" I guess it's due to the rhythm and slight similarity in sound. The song itself seems to be quite catchy. There is some nice contrast within the song, and I like the bass. I'm kinda wanting to hear some vocals in here, but I don't particularly mind. Just when I think I'm starting to get bored with the song, it adds some sort of new texture that it didn't have previously, and so I keep listening, trying to guess what comes next. I like layered music like this. Perhaps if there were a key change of some sort or something, it would give the song more depth. It's a nice track, though. :)

6. This track is another animal; it's more acoustic than the previous tracks. I've determined that this is merely a guitar ditty. Although I was wanting a bit more as far as content goes, I do find this to be rather cheeky. :) I can imagine some sort of vocals going through my head right now. I do appreciate the ritardando at the end.

7. We've returned to the more ambient aspect of things. The beginning is interesting; I like it when the instruments come in. Very nice. For some reason, I'm slightly reminded of the first track as far as vocals are concerned. This is much better, though. Am I to assume the singer is female? I can't say, since I got one of those things wrong when I did Boreas' review. I'm realizing more and more as I go further into the tape that Chris and I like similar things as far as genres are concerned. If I think about it more, I'm ever so slightly reminded of The Arcade Fire, even though I don't know that band in itself well enough yet to make such an assumption. I could use more of this; can I say this is indie?

8. This one sounds like something I would expect off of Thom Yorke's solo work, perhaps. I'm starting to get that Chris really likes ambient things, which of course isn't a problem at all. I like the piano and acoustic guitar. The sounds here are interesting; it's very calming. Hello, bells! The song transitions around the middle into this different bit altogether. I really like the latter part; I think I heard some extended tertian chords. Well done.

9. The beginning made me think of Coldplay's "In My Place;" the tempo is the same, the song is in the same key, and the drumming is similar. I like the multiple female voices within this track; I've been wanting to hear more female vocalists, and I love vocal harmonies. The male vocals are nice, too. I know I mentioned something about more content with other tracks, but it seems that with this one, less is indeed more. There's a fade out at the end; nice.

10. MMMMM, tasty bass. I already like the acoustic feel where this is going. The female vocals remind me quite a bit of Joni Mitchell, which is cool. The vocals are clear; I can understand what she's singing without having to strain. This is always good in music. I appreciate how there seems to be an abundance of piano, not only within this song, but within the mix. :) I like the occasional guitar chord appearances. The triple/duple meter contrasts in a few parts of the song are highly appreciated. I really like the vocal harmonies in here; the man's voice is nice as well. "Ohhh, my mind." There's some choir like vocals at the end, which I also like a lot.

11. This is very ambient in the beginning. The percussion takes a bit of that away when it enters. I don't like the vocals nearly as much here as I did in other tracks, but it's still pretty good. At any rate, they're not terrible. I still get the ambient feel throughout. The further the song goes, the more prevalent the guitar and drums become. The vocals are scarce here, but it fits for this particular song. The vocals became a bit brash later, but that's OK. They also become a bit more inaudible; oddly enough, I find that this works rather well with the overall mood of the piece.

12. I totally YouTubed this song the other day. I know it's The Temper Trap, but I don't remember the song. I meant to get this album, but that didn't happen. Sad day, I know. I love this song a lot. The singer is nice; it seems to have a special quality about it, even though I don't know what it is. The lyrical content, from what I hear, seems quite lovely. I like the indie feel, with the guitar work and the straight-beat percussion. I intend to check out more Temper Trap very soon. :)

13. This is more ambient music. HOORAY! :cheesy: By now, the appearance of this sort of music is to be expected. :P I was totally reminded of Sigur Rós when I listened to this; should I be? The singing very much reminds me of a children's choir; however, it seems artificial. I'm not really sure. Not that I mind, it was merely an observation. It's a very lovely song with an interesting ending.

14. Right from the very beginning, I get a huge indie feel from the band. The strings and bass here are nice. It suddenly gets loud at one point, which was enjoyable. I like the singing very much. Actually, this song reminds me very much of The Killers. Ohhh, look, more triple/duple meter play. YAY! :) This piano bit here is VERY catchy. I like the lyrics I hear, too. "Yes, this thing's got a hold on me." Well, this song's got a hold on me. :smug2:

15. OMG IT'S "HOW I MADE MY MILLIONS" YAAAAAY. Despite the out-of-tune piano, this is one of my favorite Radiohead tracks EVER. Thom Yorke is amazing in this song. "I was stronger, I was better." Thanks for putting this one on here. :wacky:

16. Bon Iver, too? Really? :D "Blindsided" is a lovely track. Actually, that whole album is grade-A stuff, but this is the track on the tape, so there ya go. :P Two words: beautiful simplicity. Justin Vernon's vocals and acoustic guitar take the stage here, and I love it. This makes you even more awesome. :)

17. Sigur Rós time! It's "Untitled 3." () is such a great album. I find "Untitled 1" to be an excellent album opener. This song is very calming, as is the album. I've acutally used this to help me get to sleep on occasion. It works. It's slow and pretty, with piano and bells. It's a bit repetitive, but that was to be expected. :P At any rate, love it. :)

18. It ends with yet more ambience. It's very pretty. I love that Amaj7 chord I heard within there. :wacky: This sounds a lot like Sigur Rós, but I don't think it's them again. That would be a bit odd, methinks. Seventh chords seem to live within this piece, which is good. I also hear some pretty female vocals. Is that some banjo I hear in there? "Sleeeeeeep." Haha. This is a great closing track. :)

So yeah. Chris. This mixtape is awesome. We must be the best of friends now. :P

But honestly. It's excellent. I can't wait to see the tracklisting for this. Thanks for putting it together.

Mixtape Review: Chris [Tnspieler1012]

Some of the albums showed up. However, seeing as I didn't pay much attention to it, and seeing as I decided to hide the artists' names while listening, it won't matter much.

1. This is bizarre. The talking introduction was pretty cool. Then the singing came in. When I first listened to this, I was like, "WTF is this? " However, as I lsten to it now, I think I've gotten used to it, and I actually rather like it now. The beat and background music is nice. The "602" is pretty awesome; I like it. This song makes me wanna dance. Teehee.

This would be "Expialidocious" by Pogo. He's a unique solo electronic artist in that he takes dialogue from kids films (you might have noticed the voices are from 'Mary Poppins') and adjusts the pitch to fit his own dance track. I really love the melody to this track, check him out on you-tube, he also has great music videos to go along with his songs.

I like the ongoing shift between major and minor modes within this piece. The ending I found to be a tad extraneous, but despite that, I give this song an A+. This I need more of.

Vessel - Jon Hopkins. Its on the same album ('insides') which the sample for 'life in technicolor' came from. He's amazing, his early stuff is really pleasant and almost new agey, while his most recent stuff has been denser and less predictable.

3. This one reminds me of folk music from the '60s due to the beat and feel. I like the vocalist here. This song is very soft and contrasts the previous track stylistically nicely. "Maybe I'm in love, love, love..." This reminds me of a specific oldie, but I don't remember what it is for the life of me. The vocal harmonies are lovely in here. I need more of this.

Winter Wooskie - Belle & Sebastian. Funny you should say that, as they're constantly mistaken for a 60s band, but really they formed in 1996. They’re really addictive.

Gosh, this is good.

haha, this is “Over The Pond” by The Album Leaf. You had it right, Jonsi is singing. They opened for Sigur Ros a lot last decade, so the members of Sigur Ros have made several guest appearances on his (Jimmy Lavalle’s) albums.

…Passing By – Ulrich Schnauss. He’s an interesting artist whose influenced a lot by shoegaze, but has a very mechanical approach to his songs. Every so many bars, it adds a new accent or riff, so you get a very rich texture. I agree his songs can sometimes get boring, but I wanted to counterbalance the heavy songs with some simpler, relaxing instrumentals.

6. This track is another animal; it's more acoustic than the previous tracks. I've determined that this is merely a guitar ditty. Although I was wanting a bit more as far as content goes, I do find this to be rather cheeky. I can imagine some sort of vocals going through my head right now. I do appreciate the ritardando at the end.

Silhouettes In Sunsets – Feltbeats. I think I added this more for contrast than anything else. Its actually by Tom Felton, the guy who plays Malfoy in the Harry Potter films. I like the simple coziness of it.

I believe ‘Indie’ is an accurate descriptor. Its ‘23’ by Blonde Redhead. The singer is indeed female, and though her voice can sometimes get annoying, I really like this track.

Well done.

Alone In Kyoto – Air. This one’s popular because its on the ‘Lost in Translation’ soundtrack. Another relaxing instrumental, but I also think it’s interesting and unique.

Machine Gun – Slowdive. Pretty straight forward ambient shoe-gaze track. Thought it might be boring, but I’m a sucker for this kinda stuff.

I like the occasional guitar chord appearances. The triple/duple meter contrasts in a few parts of the song are highly appreciated. I really like the vocal harmonies in here; the man's voice is nice as well. "Ohhh, my mind." There's some choir like vocals at the end, which I also like a lot.

I Have Loved You Wrong – The Swell Season. Off the second album of Glen Hansard (The Frames) and Marketa Irglova, both made famous by the movie ‘Once’. I adore this song.

Beautiful Mind – The Verve. My favorite song off their much more shoe-gazey debut album. I mainly like the ambience created with the reverbed guitars.

Sweet Disposition – The Temper Trap. Obviously a really popular (and great) song. I fell in love with it a few weeks ago, and I figured if you didn’t like all the boring, ambient stuff I’ve given you so far, at least you’ll like this one.

13. This is more ambient music. HOORAY! By now, the appearance of this sort of music is to be expected. I was totally reminded of Sigur Rós when I listened to this; should I be? The singing very much reminds me of a children's choir; however, it seems artificial. I'm not really sure. Not that I mind, it was merely an observation. It's a very lovely song with an interesting ending.

Boy 1904 – Jonsi & Alex. Again you’re spot on, its off of ‘Riceboy Sleeps’ Jonsi’s ambient project with his boyfriend. All the songs on this album have a unique feel, they use only acoustic sounds (it is a children’s choir), but they mix and distort it in a way that comes out sounding very different.

14. Right from the very beginning, I get a huge indie feel from the band. The strings and bass here are nice. It suddenly gets loud at one point, which was enjoyable. I like the singing very much. Actually, this song reminds me very much of The Killers. Ohhh, look, more triple/duple meter play. YAY! This piano bit here is VERY catchy. I like the lyrics I hear, too. "Yes, this thing's got a hold on me." Well, this song's got a hold on me.

Death – White Lies. Much more catchy and tangible than the previous track. Afraid you’d recognize it, but is awesome all the same.

No need to give the title :P… I’m excited you love it, this is easily one of my top 3 songs of all time because its one-of-a-kind, unbelievably beautiful and has more emotional impact on me than any song I can think of.

16. Bon Iver, too? Really? "Blindsided" is a lovely track. Actually, that whole album is grade-A stuff, but this is the track on the tape, so there ya go. Two words: beautiful simplicity. Justin Vernon's vocals and acoustic guitar take the stage here, and I love it. This makes you even more awesome.

I love the way the melancholy of ‘millions’ segs into the guitar rhythm of this one. :awesome: song, and its :awesome: that it makes me :awesome:.

At any rate, love it.
Yeah, absolutely adore it, beautiful concept, the way it just gradually builds, best ‘closer’ I can think of.

18. It ends with yet more ambience. It's very pretty. I love that Amaj7 chord I heard within there. This sounds a lot like Sigur Rós, but I don't think it's them again. That would be a bit odd, methinks. Seventh chords seem to live within this piece, which is good. I also hear some pretty female vocals. Is that some banjo I hear in there? "Sleeeeeeep." Haha. This is a great closing track.

This is “I can Almost See You” by Hammock. It’s a couple of guitarists that basically make just a ton of ambient songs. I felt obligated to relieve the tension of Samskeyti with something warm, cheesy and pretty. I’m also happy you picked out the Maj7… I’m no music expert, but those have been my favorite chords to write songs with ever since learning Satie’s Gymnopedie’s.

So yeah. Chris. This mixtape is awesome. We must be the best of friends now.

But honestly. It's excellent. I can't wait to see the tracklisting for this. Thanks for putting it together.

:D :P, I’m really ecstatic that you like it so much, here’s the track listing:

1. Expialidocious – Pogo

2. Vessel – Jon Hopkins (Insides)

3. Winter Wooskie – Belle & Sebastian (Push Barman To Open Old Wounds)

4. Over The Pond – The Album Leaf (In A Safe Place)

5. …Passing By – Ulrich Schnauss (Far Away Trains Passing By)

6. Silhouettes In Sunsets – Feltbeats

7. 23 – Blonde Redhead (23)

8. Alone In Kyoto – Air (Talkie Walkie)

9. Machine Gun – Slowdive (Souvlaki)

10. I Have Loved You Wrong – The Swell Season (Strict Joy)

11. Beautiful Mind – The Verve (A Storm In Heaven)

12. Sweet Disposition - The Temper Trap (Conditions)

13. Boy 1904 – Jonsi & Alex (Riceboy Sleeps)

18. I Can Almost See You – Hammock (Raising Your Voice…Trying To Stop an Echo)

I got a review, I love you :kiss::kiss::kiss:

now why can't I multiquote

5. Anda - Tentang Seseorang (Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, 2002)

This isn't a happy go lucky song, it's a love song, a desperate-ish one, sang in Indonesian. Indonesian music is crappy, shitty, tacky... you name it! This is one of the better. It's a number from a movie called "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?" (What's Up With Love?). I don't like the movie :D.

I know this song  :P

Now, review mine Chris!

I'll listen to yours tonight.

Don't worry, I haven't forgotten you. :P

I thought for a while that Katie might review yours, I've listened to over half so far and I like some of the more obvious tracks. I'll see if I can throw something together tomorrow its too late now.

You're welcome. :)

1, 7, & 13. Note to self: Get some Enya in the music library. I've heard of her, but I've never actually listened to her music. I must now.

3. OMG REALLY? I've heard of a few songs by her, but not this particular one. I now have a reason to check out Norah Jones.

4. Yes, it's EXCELLENT. :cheesy:

5. Ohhh. Well, it sounded happy to me, and seeing as I don't know Indonesian, I was clueless. :P

8. I've heard a lot of people talk about this band. Now I know why.

11. Oooh, another Shearwater track. heartswarm had put a track for them on my mixtape and I liked it. Now there's another one. :)

12. OMG NOOO. Why does the one track with my favorite band not work on iTunes? I LOVE that movement of Exogenesis. It's beautiful, and it makes for an excellent album closer. "This time we'll get it, we'll get it riiiiiiiiiiight. It's our last chance to forgive ourselves."

Thanks. :)

YES!!! Support Shearwater!!!!! And Elbow!!!

 I loved her new album too, you chose a great song! :)

She's amazing, isn't she? Her latest album was just surprising. I have all of her previous album and was very excited for The Fall. And when I got it...:heart::heart:

I know this song  :P

Do you like it? I love it. It's rare that I like local music :P

I didn't participate, but are those who did allowed to post the links to the mixes that either made or received. Would be great, even if it were just a few.
I believe The Escapist is collating a list in the first post :)

Twin Cinema by The New Pornographers is amazing, go listen!

Thanks for the tracklist. There is a lot of cool stuff on there I have to check out. I'm definitely gonna get myself some music from The Frames and I might just give old U2 a real chance. :nice:

I'm kind of surprised about the Spoon song, btw. I have Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga and Kill The Moonlight and I didn't recognize them! Guess I need to brush up on my Spoon. :freak:

Mixtape Review: Eddie [italian Plastic]

1. Eddie! Why didn't you tell me you listened to Bloc Party? :D This song, "Like Eating Glass" is a nice number. It's actually the opener of their 2005 debut album, "Silent Alarm." I like Bloc Party in general. The singer's voice is instantly recognizable. I always like the guitar work, and this song has a nice intro.

2. The beginning sounds like some sort of sci-fi deal. Is it meant to sound that way? I suppose so. Anyway, the instruments come in, and as they become more prevalent, it's not nearly as spacey-sounding. That was a very nice, gradual segue from the beginning to that part. The singer's voice sounds a bit strained, as if he's having a hard time singing. At least it's on pitch, though. The hand claps in here add a bit of texture. The background music is rather indie; I like it.

3. OOOOOH. The beginning is cool. Slow and pretty, and it's in E major, which is my fave key. The singer has a very thick accent; is this one of your New Zealand bands? I honestly don't know. The drums coming in helped add something more. I like the upbeat tempo of this song; it's grabbing my attention. Also, the singer sounds as if he's very young; can I make that assumption? The strumming guitars and beat kinda remind me of Bloc Party, oddly enough. Haha.

4. YAY, Arcade Fire! Oddly enough, heartswarm put The Aracade Fire on my mixtape. She went with "Haiti," and I decided to give them a second chance based on that. I'm glad I did. I actually listened to "Funeral" all the way through recently, so I recognized this song. "Rebellion (Lies)" is a nice track. :)

5. This one is much more acoustic in nature. I don't care much for this voice at all, actually. I'm sorry. :/ It's not that he's off-pitch; I suppose it's more of a stylistic thing. Actually, I'm very much reminded of Bob Dylan when I listen to this. To be honest, although I don't know of him much, I'm not really a fan of Bob Dylan's, either. I know people are going to shun me for that, but oh well. At least the guitar is pretty.

6. I had to triple check things when I first heard this. I finally came to the determination that this is a remix of Thom Yorke's "Atoms for Peace." I was confused when I first heard this, because I knew I knew the lyrical content and Thom's voice, but this wasn't anything directly from "The Eraser." The comparison of lyrics helped me figure it out. I'm not really a fan of remixes in general, but this one I actually don't mind, since it doesn't alter the original so much that it distorts the value of the song, as I find a lot of remixes do. Nice one. :)

7. The very beginning was very serene. Then the guitar came in a spiced the song up a bit, but not too much. This voice sounds really familiar. It reminds me of Blue October a bit, actually. Even though I don't know the song, I can't help but think I know the artist. Who in the world is this!? Can I make a guess? I'm gonna say this is something like The Frames. Anyway, I actually rather like the song lots; the singer's nice, and I like the piano that's added later.

8. A live track? Interesting. I wasn't expecting one. The beginning guitar is nice; actually, the guitar in general is nice. For being a live recording, the singer is actually pretty good. Considering that a lot of people are actually terrible live, take this as a compliment. I hear him go off on a few pitches here and there, but that's bound to become more present in a live recording than from a studio recording, so I'm more apt to excuse it. Oh wow. Hello, more guitar. I wasn't expecting that. I like this bit here, with the guitar; it's pretty legit.

9. The very beginning kinda reminded me of Radiohead. Then the percussion kinda dismissed that. Haha. The guitar and percussion are catchy. Again, the voice...not so much. This style of vocals is not something I care much for. :\ I'm not trying to be rude or anything, mind you. I can't even really pinpoint specifically what it is that I dislike, but it's off-putting to me. This is one of those tracks in which the music is really nice, but the singer kinda kills it. To be fair, this is what one of my best guy friends thought of Muse when I tried to show them to him, so I wouldn't feel too bad about it.

10. OOOOOH, this beginning is highly catchy. I wanna dance. This is much better. His voice is slighlty gravelly on a few bits, but I don't mind that at all. This song is so upbeat; The Bravery has that quality in their music. The Bravery doesn't sound anything like this, but that's kinda what comes to mind. Kaiser Chiefs are that way for me, too. I really like this number as well; the style is something I would totally listen to. The ending with the screaming is slightly off-putting, but I actually don't mind it.

11. This number reminds me VERY much of Bloc Party. It's not Kele singing, though, so I can't say it is Bloc Party. The straight-beat guitar and drums are stylistically like Bloc Party's, and the voice, even though clearly not Kele's, sounds quite a bit like it. I like the instrumental bit within this song before the bridge. I'd like to know this artist.

12. Lovely techno beginning. OMG, HIP HOP. Nice surprise. I'm trying to get into more stuff like this; I've recently added Gorillaz, Gnarls Barkley, and Lupe Fiasco to my library. I'm kinda reminded of the more hip-hop side of Gnarls Barkley when I listen to this. I rather like this track; it's highly catchy, and the lyrical content isn't about pimps and hoes...at least, not from what I can tell. This number is very fast-paced. Not that I mind.

13. I knew Radiohead had to be on here somewhere. "Motion Picture Soundtrack" is a really awesome track from "Kid A." It's one of my favorites, actually. I listened to "Kid A" straight through and got a new impression of it. This was one of those tracks when I was like, "Why haven't I listened to more of this!? This is wonderful." I love the harp and the choir within this song; it adds so much to the atmosphere of the song. It's really quite beautiful. :)

So this mix had its ups and downs. I like to think there were more ups than downs. It began and ended with something I was familiar with, and there were a couple of things I definitely want to look more into. Thanks, Eddie, for participating. :)

Mixtape Review: Swallowed Seaman

So I finally got around to it. YAY. :)

1. OMG, "Bodysnatchers" by Radiohead. You chose a wonderful opener. :) I love this track from "In Rainbows." "In Rainbows" is one of the albums I first listened to to get into Radiohead. I love the guitar in the song. I just think "Bodysnatchers" is a catchy tune.

2. This number sounds bluesy/country. The guitar intro led me to that conclusion. HAHA, I like the beginning Jacques Cousteau reference in the lyrics. It made me giggle. The background music is highly catchy, and I really like the guitar a lot. The voice is not something I particularly like; it's too gravelly. This guitar totally makes up for it, I swear. I'm sorry I'm not saying much about anything else. :P The more I listen to this song, the more I dislike the singer. :\ I'm sorry. :(

3. The beginning is highly interesting. I'm not sure what's making that music, but it's grabbing my attention. The singer reminds me of Jeff Buckley, but he uses much more vibrato than Jeff did. This singer is better than the one from the previous track, which was very much appreciated. That piano bit there was just grand! :D There's a nice guitar bit here later in the song, too, and combined with the piano, it sounds great. I'm already getting the impression that you really like guitar, which is good; I like it, too. :)

4. Haha, more guitar. It has a special effect, though. It sounds like a wah-wah pedal, but it's not. I honestly don't know. This, again, is rather catchy. Actually, when the singer came in, I was reminded of music from the '70s; it kinda has the feel from that era. For some reason I was reminded of "Brick House" by The Commodores, just slightly. I like this tune; I can't wait to figure out who this is. The vocalist, the more I listen to it, makes me think more of late '60s-early '70s music. You're very good at picking out stuff that, for one reason or another, keeps a person's attention.

5. OMFG. I know this song, but I can't remember for the life of me what it is or who it's by. It makes me so mad at myself. :sweatdrop: I don't have any of this artist's stuff, but I KNOW THIS SONG. GAHHH. It's killing me. I want to say it's a '90s artist. I want to say this is Barenaked Ladies or Counting Crows. I don't know. -slaps self in face- I'm going to hate myself when the listing comes out. "Pinch me, pinch me." Maybe somebody else will recognize it. Anyway, this is a classic. I like it lots.

6. Heyyy, you listen to Cage the Elephant, too! -highfive- You picked "Lotus." I like the beginning of this track lots, and the guitar [yet again] is awesome. I myself opted to put "Tiny Little Robots" in my mix. Anyway, nice choice. I'm glad I recognized it. :)

7. This one, for some reason, reminds me of "Cult of Personality" by Living Colour from "Guitar Hero 3," especially in the beginning. I like how it sped up, and the guitar came in very strong. Now it's a t a slower pace with a nice groove. The singer further reminds me of Living Colour. It makes me wonder if it's them, even though I don't know them. :P I'm not sure, though, since I have yet to detect a very busy riff. I really like this track nevertheless. I'm anxoius to know the artists.

8. "Whooooo!" :laugh4: I smiled at that part. I like the percussion here at the beginning. This vocalist is very unique. "I don't feel comfortable talking to you." Nice. :P The singer reminds me of a strange mix between Tom Smith, Justin Vernon, and something else I can't place. It's interesting in a good way. While I'm not absolutely in love with the vocals, I do rather like them, and they fit with the song. I want to say this person has an accent, but I can't say; maybe it's just me.

9. "Have you ever been haunted the way I've been haunted by you?" AWWWWW. I already like the lyrics to this song. The singer's voice is slightly gravelly, yet nice. I was going to say this song had a different feel than the rest of the mixtape, but then the guitar and percussion came in, and it dismissed that idea. :laugh4: I like that banjo work in there; it adds something special to this track. OOOOH, borrowed chord there. Very nice. I could listen to a bit more of this, yeah.

10. OOOH, nice beginning. The guitar is playing a catchy little ditty. "This door is always open/No one has the guts to shut us out." Haha, how cheeky. I like this singer much better. I like the overall song very much, actually. The higher register seems to particularly work in his favor. His vibrato is there, but not excessive. This sounds totally indie, and indie is good. I'm coming more and more to terms with the fact that I'm an indie kid. :laugh4: I'm loving how with each mixtape, I'm discovering more and more in these genres that I like. This track is a prime example.

11. This is soft in nature, with the acoustic and electric guitars playing with each other in harmonies. The string solo here is also very pretty. OOOH, more strings. Hello, there's an accelerando here, along with a percussion interest. Way to make it more interesting. Oh, hello, singer. Ummm. I don't like them here, really. It's a whole style. Ehhh. I know I've said that about a few of these. Please keep in mind that sometimes with vocalists like these, it can take a bit of time to get used to them. I haven't extensively listened to this tape, so give me some time, and maybe with these singers, I'll change my mind. I did so with Win Butler from The Arcade Fire. At any rate, I love the song due to the instrumental aspect of things. :)

12. The beginning is soft and ethereal. I like the piano entrance here. The singer reminds me very much of Ryan Key from Yellowcard. It's not Yellowcard, though, since this isn't punk pop. :P I do get somewhat of a pop feel when I listen to this, but it isn't extensivelyt so to the point of me classifying it as pop. There's some catchy guitar bits in here; lovely. The singer's vibrato makes me think that he's nervous about singing. :laugh4: Not that he is. :P I like this number quite a bit, too. :)

13. OMG, this is a cover version of Coldplay's "Yellow!" At first, I had to do a double take. It is indeed a different version. A woman is singing this time. Thankfully, she kept it in the same key as Coldplay (B major); I'm sure I would've been driven mad if she had transposed it. This version is quite a bit softer than Coldplay's original. While I love Coldplay's version much more, this is quite a lovely cover. I've known some covers to fail immensely, and this isn't one of those. I want to know who this is.

14. The beginning makes me think of '80s music. Haha. Then the guitar comes in and takes that away. I think that's guitar playing that really cool bit; I'm not sure, since it kinda sounds more like a string instrument. Maybe it's distorted...? The vocals remind me very much of the vocals from Track 8, but it's not the same. I can't say for sure. For some reason, with this one, I get a very slight Western feel. Actually, I'm reminded of Hootie and the Blowfish.

15. OMG, you ended with Keane! I love the album "Under the Iron Sea." This song, "A Bad Dream," is a very pretty track. Tom Chaplin's voice is nice, and Keane alwayhs has such nice lyrics. Thanks for using this as a closer.

To close, I'd like to say that it was nice to listen to this mixtape. I liked it very much. Hopefully, you'll post the tracklisting very soon so I can see what you have to say. I was also happy to see we listen to some of the same things, especially the Keane. Thanks for letting me review your tape.

Yeah, I love this one as well, one of my favorite Radiohead songs. I was searching for a good opener for this tape for a while, and when I hit this on shuffle I was like "YES PLEASE!" I'm glad we're both Radiohead-heads :)

Agreed, the singer's voice isn't what draws me to this song. I like it for the simple and catchy rhythms goin' on here. I also kind of like the lyrics...just not the voice. We're on the same page here. ;) It's Twist My Arm, by The Tragically Hip, a Canadian band:laugh3:. Don't know much about these guys, but I like this song...

This is a largely unknown group from the 80's, starting out indie but then getting signed to Epic Records (Ben Folds, Imogen Heap, and Iron Maiden, among others). They're called Screaming Trees. I definitely recommend looking into more of their material. This is by far their most stylish and best song, though. I see what you mean by Jeff Buckley, but they actually remind me abit of the Rolling Stones with this song.

I can see the 70's concept here, but this is from a 1995 album!:laugh3: This is the Red Hot Chili Peppers, a track from their One Hot Minute album, which they recorded while their main guitarist (John Frusciante) was on hiatus due to drug abuse and rehab. They made sure his stand-in was also influened by Hendrix though (hence 70's feel, haha). Most RHCP fans don't care much for this album because of it, but I really like a lot of it, and this song gets my blood flowing :wink3:

Absolutely right, you do know this! It is indeed Pinch Me, by Barenaked Ladies.

They're awesome. We do have great taste in music!

Haha, that's an interesting observation. This is a VERY new band (2009), of the kind often called a "supergroup." They call themselves Them Crooked Vultures, and they are Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters/Nirvana), and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin). The marriage of these talents is really something spectacular, especially if you like Queens of the Stone Age, because Josh Homme is the vocalist/guitarist/primary songwriter. But yeah, the rest of their debut album is pretty awesome. This song is just the quirkiest and busiest musically, so it got in. :P

I smile at the woooo as well :D! This is relatively old Kings Of Leon, this one's called The Bucket. I've fallen for them recently, and felt this song really fit in at this point of the tape. There's something about his voice that I totally agree with you on. It's very, very unique, and he kind of winces every now and then similarly to how Steven Tyler of Aerosmith does (which I think adds a lot of emotion).

I hope this doesn't offend or set you off, but I think I should be honest with you; They're a 90's Christian rock band from Nashville, Tennessee. Jars Of Clay. I'm not a devout Christian by any means, but I find that Christian rock which doesn't constantly mention Jesus is really deep and applicable to other emotions. Like, I hear the lyrics of this song and think of this guy singing to his long-lost girl who he hopes with all his heart will return to him and "chase away these shadows." Anyway, they're Eleventh Hour album is quite good, go check it out :)

Indie for sure! This is We Are Scientists, and started out indie, but became successful in the mainstream and are now signed to Virgin Records. They're a pretty big deal. Plus, the two main guys are hilarious, lovable individuals. This song made me tear the first time I heard it. It's pretty deep.

The vocals...yeah I agree. They're not pretty, but he's singing like that to sort of be melodramatic. This is the closing track The Airborne Toxic Event. I really like these guys (and girl...the violinist). It's really pretty, and I love the way it picks up halfway through. The transitional part there in the middle is probably my second favorite part of the song.:laugh3: This song truly speaks through the instruments, though.

I'm kind of surprised that you don't know the song. This is Wonderwall, an Oasis cover. It's covered by Cartel, a band that I really don't know anything about, but I downloaded this track and I really like what they did with the original song. Again, kind of surprising that you're not familiar with Oasis...hmm.

13. OMG, this is a cover version of Coldplay's "Yellow!" At first, I had to do a double take. It is indeed a different version. A woman is singing this time. Thankfully, she kept it in the same key as Coldpaly (B major); I'm sure I would've been driven mad if she had transposed it. This version is quite a bit softer than Coldplay's original. While I love Coldplay's version much more, this is quite a lovely cover. I've known some covers to fail immensely, and this isn't one of those. I want to know who this is.

This is Petra Haden (vocals), and Bill Frisell (guitar). Not sure where you can find this recording, but they collaborated/recorded this in 2005. Don't know much about these people (once again), but I love this cover. (Love Coldplay's more of course ;) ). It's very well done, and totally does it justice!

This is probably my favorite American rock band ever, Pearl Jam. It's the closer off their 2nd most recent album (self-titled), for which I went and saw them for the first concert of my life. :smug: They don't usually sound like this, but they always manage to pull artsy, interesting songs out of their arses when you least expect it. Actually...it's come to be expected of them nowadays. Anyway, check them out, you'll like them.

15. OMG, you ended with Keane! I love the album "Under the Iron Sea." This song, "A Bad Dream," is a very pretty track. Tom Chaplin's voice is nice, and Keane alwayhs has such nice lyrics. Thanks for using this as a closer.

I couldn't resist, this was one of those songs that made me tear up on the first listen. I discovered Keane very recently, and they make me very happy :). I think it's funny that I used a handful of songs that were closers on their own album, but this song was somewhere in the middle of Under The Iron Sea. But I thought...if there was one song by Keane that I could put in, it was this one.

To close, I'd like to say that it was nice to listen to this mixtape. I liked it very much. Hopefully, you'll post the tracklisting very soon so I can see what you have to say. I was also happy to see we listen to some of the same things, especially the Keane. Thanks for letting me review your tape. :)

Thank you very much for reviewing it! You're a very good review-er! :D

This is my first time putting together a legitimate Mixtape for something like this, so it's very much encouraging that you enjoyed it

I still listen to this song almost three years after discovering it. Definitely agree that it's an interesting song! Glad someone else knows this band too, because people laugh at me when I mention their name. :sweatdrop:

Cool! Enjoy, and let me know what you think. :nice:

Yeah, I always get tongue-tied just trying to say their name sometimes. I don't know why, though, but a lot of small bands I get into always turn out to be from Arizona.

I really liked your mix! Some songs more than others, obviously, but for the most part I really enjoyed it! I looked up Victor Jara because his song was so beautiful and I felt kind of embarrassed that I hadn't heard of him before. And now that I had read about what had happened to him, that song became even more powerful and sad and beautiful.

I'm going to be looking up a lot of these other bands too. :)

A lof of this surprises me. I've heard of many of these artists. Either I've never listened to them, or I have, but not extensively. It makes me feel like a n00b. :disappointed:

You mentioned something about Oasis. I don't like them. :P I've heard a few songs, and wasn't interested. Feel free to shun me now.

I'm surprised that KoL was there. I've heard stuff by them, and I really didn't like it at all. Does this call for another KoL excursion? Perhaps.

Airborne Toxic Event. That makes perfect sense now. Heh.

Thanks for the positive response to my review. :) I really try my best with these things. You've given me quite a bit to look more into. Thanks again! :)

Nah, not gonna shun you, you're awesome! I'm not a huge fan of Oasis, but I always thought Wonderwall was one of those songs that transcended their fanbase and into popular culture. Wrong-ish am I!

Kings of Leon are really an acquired taste. Try giving their newest album (Only By The Night) a shot. Most of their older stuff, I do not care for, but their most recent I really really like. That song was a diamond in the rough.

I have a feeling Red Hot Chili Peppers was one of the surprises for you. It really doesn't sound like most of what people hear by, them, so you're probably not alone

I've noticed that my tape has quite a bit more energy than most of the ones I've downloaded/seen here so far. Just so prospective downloaders know what they're getting into ;)
