Internet 'rewires our brains' and makes teenagers vulnerable to mental illness

Featured Replies

I read an article covering a similar topic in the newspaper the other day

(yes, I know, I'm old-school, reading newspapers and printed magazines)

Well, in my own experience, I have noticed how my ability to focus on a single activity has depreciated the more I use the Internet.

When I was in high school or my first two years in college, I was able to sit down and read or do homework for hours, only taking breaks to eat, go to the bathroom, stretch, or exercise.

Now? I get easily distracted while using my laptop into looking up stuff on Wikipedia, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, the list goes on.

I don't feel as efficient as before.

I've noticed the same thing too. :\

I'm sorry but this has to be sarcasm.

Either you are a massive retard or this is sarcasm.

Okay, if I must explain myself then I will. Let's go through my post part by part:

"Wow! This is the first news post from Mark which I've actually concentrated on and read the whole thing"

When I mentioned Mark I didn't intentionally mean to single him out, I subconsciously did it. Thinking back now, I should have rephrased it i guess.

"This is the first news post ...I've actually concentrated on and read the whole thing"

Generally, I don't tend to read news posts in too much detail, due to the fact it doesn't who it's from, they're normally not greatly stimulating.

"Good post man! :) Very interesting!"

The fact this post was actually quite stimulating I actually took the bother of congratulating someone for posting it.

So I guess it boils down to the fact I wasn't really that clear, I guess it in a way sounded sarcastic, but that's probably because I posted it when I was half a sleep.

In short, no one's a retard. Let's just drop it and get back to being good little Coldplayers! :)

AHAHAHAHA he was wondering if it was sarcasm not that he didn't understand, now you really DO look like a retard, honestly

Well, you look foolish, as you took an action that assumes everyone else in this thread is stupid as for some reason you explained a post that is bleedingly obvious in it's meaning, just covering your butt and doing so when nobody asked for clarification. I'm sure you don't want to look foolish.

woah, now hold on there!

All i wanted to do was give someone a compliment for a thread that was posted. It seems like in this day and age it can't be done without someone pulling it to pieces. (I've been away for a way, I guess the scene has changed.) I in no way meant to sound condescending or degrading. To me it seemed like it needed explaining, and now I look like a fool damnit!

What on earth are you talking about? You pulled it to pieces yourself with your little part-by-part thing.

Don't worry about the latter part, I'm sure you didn't mean to really. I is just overly... silly, I guess

Just for the record, you're wasting your time with those guys, as they just seem to want to take the p*ss and create conflict most of the time.

Instead of admitting they made a wrong assumption on this occasion, they decided to resort to name-calling instead.

Debating the issue is a pointless exercise, as you'll probably only attract more abuse, therefore your best bet is to ignore them.

They don't seem incapable of comprehending that not everyone is being sarcastic the whole time, which is a pity.

Don't let it dissuade you from being genuinely complimentary when you feel like it, anyway.;)

Hahaha nice one Mark I just admitted I was wrong on the latter part right above your post. Congrats.

I didn't mean you. You didn't insult anyone as far as I'm aware.

Ah.

Ok, I have managed enough to make myself look silly tonight, time to leave thread and stop posting

I'll take your word for it, I haven't been around in ages, so it was a bit naive to try back up anything I was trying to say. :\

Either way, getting back on topic. I to a certain degree believe what is being said in article. As a result I spent to night reading instead of spending the night on the Internet. It turns out, I can actually keep myself occupied reading! Thanks to Lee Child (a brilliant author)!

You're only calling him that because he's free-thinking and open-minded enough to "dare" to disagree with you.

You disagree with me all the time, are you free-thinking? No. Open-minded? Hahahaha!

No less so than you.:smug:

See if YOU were free-thinking and open-minded it'd be possible to have a debate with you.

See, this is the kind of dabeate Mark likes to engage in. The kind where whomever he's debating with capitulates easily, admits they have no clue what they're trying to say and thus makes him sound intelligent. :(

Well it isn't possible to have a debate with you, as your mind is already made up beforehand......................... :dozey:

This is precisely the sort of post I've been talking about. Furthermore, how "intelligent" is it to fail to quote properly and to use the non-existent word dabeate?

How intelligent is it to use a typo as a point of your argument. You outdo yourself once again!

How intelligent it is to use a point that you have just failed on! Nice quoting!

If I was going to be sad enough to use someone's poor quoting responsibility as a reason to show their lack of intelligence, I'd definitely make sure I had quoted them properly when doing so.
