February 15, 201016 yr ah the year i became obsessed with music. i believe 2003 holds the record for the year the most number of albums were sold worldwide. most of my favourite albums of this year have already been mentioned and they all rock!
February 15, 201016 yr 2003. It was my first full year living in Australia, which exposed me to a lot more music than I was used to in New Zealand at the time. The albums from 2003 that I enjoyed include: Local self-titled debut from Melbourne Jazz-funk-pop band The Cat Empire after I got hooked on the catchy breakout single "Hello". The Dandy Warhols' finest release to date - Welcome To The Monkey House Who can forget Coldplay's Live 2003 CD and DVD... amazing... Jack Johnson's second album On And On won me over. It's his second best album but who can forget the magic of "Taylor". Magical. Local band JET broke through with their debut Get Born, led by the easily recogniseable and anthemic "Are You Gonna Be My Girl". Music industry in Australia goes ballistic. Muse's album Absolution which I discovered way after 2003. This was a much better release than their previous two albums. Local lads and Aussie rock legends Powderfinger release the multi ARIA-winning album Vulture St which was incredibly successful in Australia. This album is my favourite of the band's 9 LP's, and it is in my top 10 albums of the decade. Snow Patrol broke away from their first two troubled and unsuccessful releases with LP3, Final Straw on the back of the successful single 'Run'. Spitting Games was the track that got me hooked. Starsailor released Silence Is Easy with track "Four To The Floor" going on to be ruined through a Thin White Duke Mix which crossed over into the disease-ridden world that is Club music. The Strokes followed up their successful debut with Room On Fire which only cemented their position as one of the best bands of the decade. Certainly the best guitar band. "Reptilia" is one of the songs of the decade. The underrated debut from Irish indie-pop band The Thrills titled So Much For The City was released, and I was instantly hooked. For those who haven't checked out the band's music, please do. Chances are you'll love it. Singles Santa Cruz and One Horse Town dazzled worldwide with decent chart positions for a relatively unknown band. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=75E8AFF995151AFF&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&v=v1S0pTEydb8 Travis released the 'darker' 12 Memories which I am still indifferent to. It's not my favourite travis album, but singles like Quicksand and The Beautiful Occupation were very strong. We heard one of the riffs of 2003 with 'Seven Nation Army' on The White Stripes album Elephant - probably one of the singles of the year. Other mentions: Blur - Think Tank was a disappointment for me. A signal of the end. Radiohead released another album, dignity intact but nobody amazed. Kings of Leon debut sounding incredibly redneck.
February 15, 201016 yr D'oh, how could I have forgotten about Final Straw? Still SP's best album. Also forgot about Travis, though probably because I felt 12 Memories was a misstep. Travis's weakest album to date IMO.

One of my favourite album covers: Just Another Ordinary Day by Patrick Watson. The album itself also is very much worth listening to. The cd looks so pretty and the sort of poster thingie with the lyrics on it deserves a place on my wall. It's all so stylish and just generally cool. February 18, 201016 yr So there's not gonna be a lot of writing in this, and not a lot of nostalgia since I didn't get into music until 2005.....but here it goes! 2003.....the first thing that pops into my head for this is pretty obvious if you know me. AND SO IT BEGINS WITH OBNOXIOUSLY LARGE LETTERING. That album would be Mew - Frengers Good album, especially if you like guys that sing a bit like girls. :heart: Yeah, you'd think I'd have a lot to say about this but I don't. </3 And due to technical difficulties I can't post videos so this is gonna be kept short, sweet and lame!
