Personal Archive, DVD or Documentary? Mexican Shows Will Be Filmed

Featured Replies

Mexico City (march 4, 2010).- Every minute of Coldplay’s stay in Mexico will be filmed by several cameras for the personal archive of the group, for a DVD or a documentary.

Mat Whitecross, documentary-maker and Chris Martin’s friend from the university, said that he is getting ready cameras and equipment to have a very complete videographic memory of the “Viva La Vida Latin American Tour 2010” through the country.

“They still haven’t decided if they will do a DVD or a documentary. Chris has a special love for Mexico. You don’t have idea of how much he professes his love to the Mexicans. Viva La Vida is called like that because of Frida Kahlo. Chris wants this weekend to be very special.”, said Whitecross in a telephone interview from León.

The filmmaker was in Guanajuato, in the Gira Ambulante to present his work The Shock Doctrine, which has already been seen by the British quartet.

“Despite all the fame around them and all the media attention, they are very simple and they have supported me all the time. Our camaraderie it’s the same. Chris and I were in the same university (University College of London).

“We have never lost touch and we have been very good friends; I have done several videos with them. I presented Sex & Drugs & Rock and Roll, and Chris went to the premiere. He is great; he is a very good friend”.

Whitecross has made several videos for the 6-times Grammy Award winners, some of them are “Bigger Stronger”, “Lovers in Japan” and “Lost!”

“It’s very good that they give me work, right? What can I say about them if I see them as very good friends. I insist, their love for Mexico is genuine and you can tell; they don’t get as excited in other places as they get here. The audience will see it”.

For the time the British will be here, Whitecross is going to contract a crew of seven cameras, which will be provided by Canana Films, production company of Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal.

I mean, it would be crazy for them not to release a DVD of their biggest tour ever. Especially since we haven't got anything since 2003!

‘Deambula’ Matt Whitecross con Coldplay

FERNANDO ROSALES OVALLE

NOTA PUBLICADA: 3/4/2010

Although Coldplay won't come to Leon, a friend of singer Chris Martin was in town yesterday: Matt Whitecross, who has directed videos for the British band as "Violet Hill" and "Lovers in Japan".

"I think I met them the first day I got to college, University College London. We were all in the same school, we slept in the same building, we became friends very fast and then I filmed them the first few times they did concerts for 10 or 15 people, "said the director in an interview yesterday.

"They grew massively two or three years later. We always see eachother as friends, but last year they called and said they wanted to do several things, one was to film them in the studio making the album Viva La Vida", added the director of "The Shock Doctrine", which he presented in Leon as part of the Ambulante tour.

"I made a video for them of a song called 'Violet Hill', then I did another one called 'Lovers in Japan' and then 'Lost'. They did a collaboration with Jay-Z which I also filmed".

The friendship with the members of Coldplay is so strong that this Saturday and Sunday Whitecross will film the band's concerts at the Foro Sol in Mexico City.

"In one year, two or five maybe, they'll want to make a documentary, but for now I'll film them in Mexico City, it's very important for them to come back to this country because it was an inspiration for their album (Viva la Vida)" he added.

On the other hand, Matt presented yesterday in Leon his film "The Shock Doctrine", part of the tour of documentaries Ambulante.

"I just finished a script, it's some fiction about my father, who died last year. It's more so a thriller, I have an actor named Ray Winston who did a role in a Martin Scorsesse movie, he was in the new 'Indiana Jones' and he'll have the main role of this film, let's hope this to happen within the next two or three months", concluded the director, who gave a talk to students from UNIVA.

I made a few changes in the post so it would make sense, but here's the link to the original translation :nice:

That comment of him filming them while recording the album SCREAMS documentary :awesome:
