I finally discovered why I respect Coldplay.

Featured Replies

As a musician, I've dealt with the many stages of discovering my "personal style". I've gone through loud to rock, and from rock to horrible ryhthm. Yet, as Coldplay was introduced to me, I realized how great of musicians they are. They don't try to be like what's popular, they rather they be themselves. Obviously, they succeed with that.

The same applies with me. I am not a fan of current music. Why? Because it all either sounds the same, or the voice of the singer is so fake, the song becomes unbearable. (Ke$ha - I'm looking at you.) I've settled into an acoustic style of playing, because it fits my lifestyle; it "feels" me.

So, the reason I respect Coldplay the way I do is due to their individualism and their creativeness. They play to please whoever cares to listen to them, and by doing so, leaves a great mark in the music industry.

Totally agree! :)

I´m with that, man

Agreed. There is just something intanglible about Coldplay's music that's special. In my opinion their music really cannot be defined as 'pop' or 'alternative rock' or whatever you wanna call it because i don't think they are trying to fit into one genre, it's just that Coldplay's genre is...'Coldplay', it's hard to explain you know if you get what i meant lol. I tried to compare them to Muse (i love Muse btw), and i don't think Muse really have 'it'. I admit they are talented and their songs are awesome, but i can't find 'something' about them that could emotionally attach me to their music as i do with Coldplay.

I agree with it all but this. What music are you exactly currently listening to? There is currently loads of good, brilliant music to listen to. Head over the the WoM if you are unsure.

both are right.

but one thing is, as a musician there are moments when you -may be wrongly from the artists side- decide to get people like what you do most, and you try to fit them, which isn't what you as an artist should do, imo. (i think that's the main topic that has been discussed here regarding coldplay different albums, and that's why people go, oh coldplay should stick only to arobtth era, x&y is a huge mistake and all that, if they did so cause they felt to do so, i'm ok, what i won't like is they feel they had to do so for their fans cause that's what they want to listen, as you said artist should be creative, and try to please others is not be creative)

i mean is ok, you as artist decide to try different genres along your musical career, but not to think you have to do so for your fans, as you said, artist should do what they do and people should approach to listen you if they want to, are they who should 'adapt' to you and not the other way, i think.

100% true,

it made me happy reading that =D

Some indie, some alternative and worship music.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing the pop music industry as a whole, I'm just saying it isn't my style. But of course there is brilliant music in every genre.

Thats good then. YOu made it sound like you only listen to coldplay and pop music and my brain is like: "are you serious?"

finally?

how long have you been thinking about this?

I like music which makes me feel any emotion ( except anger,

not a fan of that emotion with music :blank: )

and Coldplay falls under that.

Ha, yeah. I couldn't do that.

Not long. "Finally" was the wrong word, I guess. It was more like a revelation. I just listened to their music and enjoyed it - then it hit me why I enjoyed it so much.

Says the guy who likes/liked Fall out boy.

Why do you put people down for liking a band that you don't like?

Why do you put people down for liking a band that you don't like?

Not that. I'd respect it. But he clearly makes it look like the other is delusional for listening to Coldplay and popular music, when he clearly did it before. That can't be right.

But that's just one mainstream band. I don't think he listened to ONLY mainstream music and Coldplay...
