One more thing and I'll stop my bullshit, I really want to thank some coldplayers that made me discover lots of awesome bands lately: Tauiwi, Aliceincoldplayland and Khalplay :)

No probs!

Track #1 : Adultery – Little Comets- Adultery (single release) – 2010 – UK

So, it's not Kele! Little Comets, from UK. No album yet! Upbeat was the first word that came to my mind when I first discovered them in the last mixtape I recieved (thanks Tauiwi!)! I thought it would be a great opener for this mixtape and I'm glad you agreed :)

The more people knowing the Little Comets the better! Glad I could help!

Track#3 : Eyes As Candles – Passion Pit – Manners – 2009 – USA

So, a great electro-pop band I discovered thanks to the previous mixtape exchange (yeah, still the same coldplayer :D ). One of my fav on their debut album with "Sleepyhead" and "Let Your Love Grow Tall". The singer has a great voice in my opinion though I admit it might be a bit boring if you listen the album on repeat.

Guilty

Track#15 : I’ll Never Drop My Sword – The Drums – The Drums – 2010 – USA

It was a bit risky to put some "surfing rock" right after Al Green but well, I guess I'm a cheeky person :p

Glad it didn't shock you!

So The Drums! A great band I discovered lately (thanks Tauiwi and Aliceincoldplayland!) and I love this surfy thing they have on their songs, it smells holidays! It's their debut album and I think it's brilliant in this genre! Easily enjoyable! This one is probably my fav. The E.P is also great!

One thing I love about them is their abiliity of having such happy instrumentals most of the time but not always happy lyrics, love this contrast.

And yeah, he's a boy

NICE! Easily one of my faves, cos they use acoustic chords in it for the first time.

Hello Violet!!

So, I'm your mixtape maker :D !

Yeah, I know, you don't know me at all and you just might be thinking "how comes she knows me??". Freaky... :p

Well to be honest, I noticed you on the last mixtape exchange, I thought your review was amazing! And then you said you were really into music so...

I'm glad you liked the title of the mixtape! I was really honored when I saw you were my partner but also stressed, I admit it! So yeah, you were kind of special to me ;)

I guessed you'd know some of the artists but didn't stalk you that much cause I didn't want to be too influenced and also wanted this mixtape to reflect as much as possible my personnality and my tastes.

Anyway, thank you very for your review which was, again, amazing!! Really enjoyed reading it! I'm so glad you liked the mixtape overall!

One more thing and I'll stop my bullshit, I really want to thank some coldplayers that made me discover lots of awesome bands lately: Tauiwi, Aliceincoldplayland and Khalplay :)

Ok so, let's go!

Wow. That has to be one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me. My reputation is proceeding me. This feels pleasantly weird. :laugh4: It's lovely to finally be able to talk with you, Sofia. I'm really glad that you enjoy the reviews I write. You're right when you say I say I'm really into music. It's what my life tends to revolve around, so I try my best to take my reviews rather seriously.

Awwwww, you were stressing out over poor li'l ol' me? :laugh4: You shouldn't have. I do take music seriously, but I am also VERY open-minded when it comes to music, and what you did with your mixtape was just fine. :)

Here's a condensed tracklist:

Wow, some of this surprised me. Here's some post-revealing commentary:

1. Ahhh, so they're up-and-coming. Nice! These guys have potential to do something then. I can't wait for when they do release an album. I'll most certainly keep a lookout for it.

2. :surprised: So I had a good reason behind my thought process. :D While I'm not familiar with their EPs or anything, I do have their debut LP, and it's one of my favorite albums of 2010. I have even more reason to love Two Door Cinema Club now. Thanks for sharing this with me.

3. Ahhhhh. A couple of people on the forum have told me that I should look into Passion Pit. I suppose I have a reason now. ;)

6. I think someone has mentioned him on the forum before, but I've never heard his music. Like I said, I'll give it some time to grow on me, and I can go from there.

7. I am highly interested in that album you speak of. Thanks for taking the time to introduce me to some French music. I can honestly say I don't have enough of that, and I think it would be lovely to add this to my collection. :)

8. No, I've never heard of Gomez until now. Very interesting. I'll keep that on the backburner, too.

9. Ohhh, OK. That explains a lot. I won't take their English skills personally (as I'm sure I couldn't speak in their tongue ). I do like darker music, and as a lot of the other stuff seemed upbeat and happy, it was high time a song like this appeared on the mix, and I'm glad you decided to include them. :)

12. Oh, really? I did listen to a Beach House song once, and it didn't really grab my attention all that much. (I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. It's one from "Teen Dream.") I think maybe this one will have changed my mind. People in the WoM have been talking about that album a lot, and I can maybe better understand why.

13. I think there are many things we should talk about, Sofia. You seem like a highly interesting individual that, should I meet you in real life, I would like very much. :) Anyway, I didn't think this track would be that recent. That was surprising to me. It's cool to hear you like Miles Davis; he was an amazing trumpeter.

14. I KNEW IT. Al Green. I know that voice anywhere. His song "Ain't No Sunshine" is like, a classic. That's probably why I recognized his voice; "Ain't No Sunshine" is one of my fave '70s tunes, for sure. His voice is so pristine. It's stuff like this that makes me go back to my days of oldie music on occasion. :)

15. That was The Drums!? Why didn't I recognize them? While I don't have their debut LP yet, I do have their "Summertime!" EP and a couple of singles, and I like their music. This shows how I REALLY need to get that album, and soon.

16. Hey, don't feel bad about it at all. It's always worth giving new things a try, and while they may not work out initially, sometimes they do later. That's how I was with Arcade Fire. I didn't like them back when I first heard them, and after hearing "Haiti" on my mixtape from the last exchange (Thanks, Gail, for that one!), I decided to give them a second chance, and I ended up being glad for doing so. At any rate, you've yet again brought me closer to French music, so it was definitely worth something. :)

Thanks again for this awesome review!! If you are interested on some albums, don't hesitate, ask me!!

If you want to share some things with me, I'd be really glad to so, once again, don't hesitate!

You are quite welcome, Sofia. :D I have a strong feeling we'll talk in the near future. ;) :)

Okay, so first off I must apologize for having taken so long to get around to this review. Even though I don’t yet know who you are, I presume you’ve been very patient, so thanks for that. Anyway, here we go… (I’ve listened through it twice already, but I’m listening to it again while typing so it’s a bit more authentic or spontaneous.)

Track 1 – Chill acoustic guitar rhythms. Simple and pleasant, his voice is nice enough. Short and soft little love song, not at all a bad way to start off a mixtape.

Track 2 – Clean sliding guitar chords with a very prominent bass. Close up, softly spoken vocals. Another simple one. Don’t feel like the mix has officially taken off yet, but again, it’s certainly pleasant in its discreetness. Lyrics are amusing (about being in love with an android [for other people reading this]), yet I like the serious tone and melody of the chorus…It was stuck in my head during work the other day. Not bad so far.

Track 3 – Groovy bass melody and piano chords at intervals. Drums enter…I really like the sound of the guitar in this one. Voice is, again, decent, but forgettable imo. Kind of an odd contrast between the bass and guitar riffs when they both enter. The chords stay pretty neutral so the overall feel of the song is likewise. Again, not bad.

Track 4 – A warm, amusing, kinda country shanty with a banjo and violin. Bunch of backing vocals… the melody is fun and addictive. I like it!

Track 5 – Now a female voice and snappy piano chords. Is it Feist? Whether or not, her voice has a unique texture which I mostly enjoy, especially on the high notes. I like the chorus, though the whole ‘I am not a robot!’ bit at the end with the minor chord strikes an odd note with me. Altogether it’s a nice track, certainly different from what I’m used to, which is kind of the point of this whole exchange.

Track 6 – A groovy, summery track. Every part of it is fine, but with each listen I find myself feeling bored by it. Even with the little breakdowns, it feels a bit generic and very forgettable. Most people would definitely enjoy it, but I’m so-so about it only because I find it uninteresting. That said, the beat and melody are still pleasant enough.

Track 7 – Woah, okay. 80s string synths, occasional piano riff and a very full, funky sound. After a minute I’m still not really into it…Don’t care for the girl’s voice. I can see why some people would really like it, but it’s just not really my kinda thing. Not in-tune with the mood I guess. Sorry.

Track 8 – Okay, back to a folkish, country vibe. Violin nuances, strummed guitar and a decent voice. After the first chorus I’m fine with it(though getting a weird plain white tees vibe). Nice backing vocals, nice chords and a nice emotional drive. I like it!……AND it appears I’m getting a two-for-one bonus.

A new track, also with a folkish, acoustic vibe enters, though it appears to be a completely different band (hidden track on the album it came from?). Again, pleasant and tongue-in-cheek, though I feel the mix is getting weighed down by these kinds of tracks that are safe and fun but have relatively little novelty to them. That is to say, I haven’t been blown away by anything yet. Lol, the ‘CSI-shit’ and outro bits are cute.

Track 9 – I like the very start of this one as it feels completely different than the previous tracks. An overbearing droney loop followed by a bass beat. Electronic distorted vocals enter. Though I liked some of the textures, I’m not really warming up to the song at all. The rythms and sounds are very chaotic, which would be fine if I could attach myself to something, but by the end I just find it all very annoying and abrasive. Yeah, don’t like it. I appreciate the change and variety though.

Track 10 – Tense, off-key piano in the intro. Bass, drums, vocals, etc. come together…not really liking it so far. The chorus, always starting with ‘she lifts up her skirt’ followed by the piano doesn’t really do anything for me. I can tell by the guitar arpeggios that it’s meant to have a sour, kind of haunting flavor… But while I can no longer say this mix is too consonant, the only thing I find enjoyable about this track is the surge of voices at the end. That was really cool.

Track 11 – Lol. Coincidentally this song was on the tape I got from the last mixtape exchange. “Sun Hands” by Local Natives. I thought it was a good song then, and I still do. It has a nice groove, and the voices are a great. My only annoyance about this song is I think it goes on too long, and the voices get to be monotonous. A good pick all the same!

Track 12 – Guitar arpeggios fade in… a clean, descending guitar riff comes in on top and runs off key. Nice voices, a fine song so far. The bridge and outro are especially warm and nice, I definitely like it.

Track 13 – More guitar arpeggios, though much more solemn this time. Now a bass line and drumbeat enter. I’m starting to like the garagey, sorta neo-punk sound of the instruments. Oh, but I can’t stand the screechy female vocals. I was starting to think this would be an instrumental, but the singing just kills it for me.

Track 14 – More guitar, off the back I like the smooth timbre of the chords. Fine with the voice…oh, I really like it now that the electronics enter. Yeah, this track started out okay, but it just gets better and better as it goes along. I’m really curious who this is now, I really like it!

Track 15 – Last one now… Acoustic picked guitar. Feels like a return to the soft mood that began the mix. His voice has a very nice sound to it. Bass enters…great so far. Choir-like backing vocals now, I especially like the vocal bass. A fine way to the end a mixtape, I really enjoyed this last one.

Okay so, in all honesty I was very neutral about this tape the first time through. I remember thinking it felt like it was made with someone else in mind. However, it’s grown on me a bit since then. The first half is really nice. 2, 4 and 5 stood out to me the most out of those. On the backside I was really thrown off by 9 and 10, but 11, 12, 14, and 15 saved the day for me; I especially liked those tracks. In the end it turns out to be a pretty solid mix. I was also pleased to find that I only recognized one track. I have some theories about a few of the other bands but I’m afraid to guess for fear of embarrassment. Whoever you are, thanks so much for putting this together, I definitely enjoyed it and look forward to researching some of these artists as soon as you post the tracklist. :D

I apologize again for delaying this review.

Aw, there there, I was only having a laugh. Other than those two your mixtape was excellent!

Aww, thanks guizzze

Whew! I really enjoyed my tape it was perfect considering the mellow mood I've been in lately. Thanks mixtape maker! :D

Here's my review:

Track 1- Rufus Wainwright = I absolutely love his voice, it’s so pure. I didn’t know this song though so thank you for putting it in here! The piano throughout is a perfect counterbalance to his melody, especially the scales in the middle. No other instrument is needed to make this song perfect.

Track 2- Hmmm, nice native american-esque drumming in the beginning. I kinda hate the woman singing though. Its just too soft with the violins swelling in the background. I hardly even noticed I couldn’t understand what she was saying until half way through not because she was mumbling, but singing in another language! Being over five minutes was a little excessive, especially because the instrumentals just repeated as did the vocals. Ah well, can’t like them all.

Track 3-I love listening to french songs, so despite not understanding this one either, I liked it quite a bit. It has a really catchy feel, and I loved the mixed guitar in the background. My second favorite track, i’ve been singing the do-do-do’s all day!

Track 4- I liked this one a lot, too. The singer has a very subtle sweet daydream-y quality to his voice that kind of just makes me want to get in the car with the roof down and drive through the countryside. I really liked the harmonies with the very deep voice, but really wasn’t fond of the brass sections. It kind of threw off the content feeling of the rest of the song.

Track 5- Ah, another piano track. Or at least it was until two minutes in. Nonsensical lyrics definitely, but I really didn’t mind because I was too hypnotized by his voice. The sudden influx of instrumental totally worked with his tone too, I think. The vibrato he used when holding out a note really added greatly to the feel of the song, still pure, but different than others that I’ve heard before. I think I want to hear more of this band/singer.

Track 6- The instrumentals throughout really gave me a vampire weekend feel which I really liked and the fast tempo was very upbeat and dencey, but the singers high pitched “mild fascination” was kind of annoying after five minutes. Especially when I couldn’t understand what he was singing half the time with the change in pitch from high to really low. The first thirty seconds was the best part after that it just goes downhill for me.

Track 7- More french and piano! Yay! This guy’s voice realllllly doesn’t work with such a nice piano section though in my opinion. Maybe if the mixers had toned down his voice and maybe balanced the piano a little so its not overpowering him it would be better. It is calming, even though I have no idea what emotion he is trying to sing about.

Track 8- sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet diiiiiiiiiiiiispooooooooooositiiioooooooooon :D I LOVE The Temper Trap. They are one of my favorite bands right now and I actually included one of their songs on my mix , too. Everything about their songs is amazing. Everyone should go out and buy Conditions.

Track 9- Ugh. Don’t like. I have a bit of a problem with female vocalists which is really weird considering I’m a girl, but unless they are like pitch perfect and have strong tones I’m just overly critical. Even the instrumental did nothing for me in this one, however. Too mellow and raspy.

Track 10- Another piano tune. This guy has a smooth voice as well. The only thin I think that sets this one apart is the lyrics actually seem to be well thought out contain a story instead of just random mumblings. The doo doo doo chorus is a bit of a cop out though. Good, not anything special. Reminds me of Damien Rice.

Track 11- I feel like I’ve heard this one before. All sweeping messages and choruses, very upbeat yet soft at the same time. One I could see myself listening to often. Very mainstream sound to it. Its definitely one of those “rock” bands that are actually soft and emotion filled more than rock-y.

Track 12- Nice guitar intro. I’ve definitely heard this before. The whole “see the world, find an old fashioned girl” bit is just too familiar. I love the cheesy “sha-la-la”s. Very country feel to it without being country at all. Maybe it’s the singers voice that does it, he has that rough older man’s voice that’s so typical of country. It’s nice.

Track 13- Changing it up now, huh? It’s a refreshing change really after all of this piano (which I love don’t get me wrong). Rap was unexpected, I don’t usually like it, but its not bad still as mellow as the rest of the tape. “It’s funny how music puts times in perspective” I really liked. Generic backing beat, but good lyrics.

Track 14- Apparently this one is by Beach House, at least that's what the thing says. That's alright though because I have no idea who this group is and have never heard of them before. Almost six minutes is just too long. Despite that, I liked this one the most out of the female singers. The atmospheric backdrop really highlighted her voice and blended really well. I'd be interested in hearing more from this group.

Track 15- Elevator music? Kinda. It reminds me of the instrumental music the television guide channel plays here. Did I like it anyway? Yes. Good ending to the tape.

Thanks again!

I'm sorry for the delay.

Thank you very much for your review ! I'm your mixtape maker :) . Haha I'm sorry, this was my very first attempt at doing this so I had absolutely no perspective nor experience and no clue about how to organize the tracks etc ... :sweatdrop: .

I'm glad you liked it as a whole though, and I can undertand why you did not really like some of them. Reading your review was very instructive, really ! :) Thanks again for making such a complete review !!

Here is the tracklist :

(Quick announcement btw, I'm desperately waiting for my mixtape maker's tracklist, my review is on page 52 :D )

Track 1 : Rufus Wainright - The Dream

I adore this song, I find it perfect as well. I'm glad you like it as it is. :)

Track 2 : NieR soundtrack - Song of the Ancients (Fate)

Yeah you are right, now that you mention it the singer has a mellow voice... a bit too slow yes. She sings in a language that doesn't exist, so yeah it can be annoying after a while. Still I like how this song can be refreshing and exotic, all summery :D

Track 3 : Volo - Fiston

This one is about a couple breaking out : the father has to take care of their son all alone, so he is stressing out (but optimistic) about how he will manage with it, hoping her wife will come back . The whole song is basically the father explaining the situation to his son and saying things like "She knows I love her, she'll be back in no time you'll see but we'll have to stay together alone for a while, let's enjoy it " etc.

Track 4 : Stornoway - Zorbing

The singer's voice is simply amazing, don't you think ? But I agree it's rather long and heavy at times.

Track 5 : Beirut- Un Dernier Verre (Pour la Route)

Your comments about this song are relevant to me. I'm in love with this band in general. If you like this song, I'm sure you'll enjoy listening to other songs from them (especially "Elephant Gun", "Nantes", Postcards from Italy" ... :wacky: ). The singer's name is Zach Condon.

Track 6 : Here we go magic - Collector

A nice little song, not excellent but hyper and happy to me

Track 7 : Renaud - Mistral Gagnant

This is a very special song I fell in love with when I was very young. I find this huge gap between the melody and the singer’s voice really touching. He is telling us how his childhood was, it’s a song about childhood memories and how life still goes on without you being able to stop time and everything. I know it sounds a bit weird, but this singer is usually more into heavier things/harsh style and that’s yeah, special to hear him singing this song !

Track 8 : The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition

Haha we both agree on this one, it’s a gem, and Conditions is a great album indeed. :wacky:

Track 9 : Air - Once upon a time

This song is out of phase with I don’t know… time. I see why it could be disturbing though, maybe a bit too different from everything else :sweatdrop: . Oh, that voice ! It’s a guy singing  . But it’s hard to tell when you don’t know, really ! ^^””

Track 10 : Patrick Watson - The Great Escape

Yes the little tune along with the lyrics work pretty well here, I admit it is a bit depressing but beautiful overall.

Track 11 : Stereophonics - Forever

Exactly that’s it, easy to listen to and mainstream , yet not that simple I guess.

Track 12 : Gomez - See the World

I admit this one is pretty famous and recognizable (with an awesome video^^).

I totally agree with you.

Track 13 : Nujabes Feat. Shing02 - Luv (sic.) pt.3

Ok,at first I didn’t know whether to put this one on my tape or not, if it would be ok because there’s such a musical twist to handle between track 12 and 13  . for me it was you know the kind of song that makes you think “that’s not just rap”…. The lyrics on this one is what affected me the most.

Track 14 : Beach House - Take Care

You are right, sorry I don’t know why the infos were still here :curtain: . A bit long indeed. Once again you described the song really well

Track 15 : House Rulez - City Lights N Seoul

Best elevator music ever don’t you think ? I wanted the tape to end with that song from the start, I don’t know why …

To my mixtape maker: sorry for the delay, I'm gonna post my review tonight. :nice:

Hello tapemaker, here comes my review for you:

I received my tape a couple of days ago, but I didn't have time to listen to it, and then I lost some sleep over it contemplating that I didn't have time to listen to it. Deary me!

My tape comes with artwork and the tracks are strangly numbered 1a, 2b, 3c and so forth. There are 14 tracks. The artwork shows a collection of tapes and records scattered all over the place and pictured in reversed colours. I recognise a couple of Coldplay CDs, The Best of Buddy Holly and a record with POLSKA written all over it. Very cool!

Please excuse me, if I don’t come across as enthusiastic as I should. Right now, I am so awfully tired, I am not capable of emotional outburst at the moment (its 2:50 am). Deep down I feel honoured by this great tape and the care it was compiled with. Thanks mucho! :D

Hello mate! It was made by me:P

Your review on my songs is great, I will comment back soon!

Alright, I've procrastinated long enough. :P

Here's my review for the mix I received:

Track 1-

Electronic sounds... Not really the best song to start with, to be honest. Sounds like MGMT, but I'm not sure if it's a guy or a girl singing... I'm not really a fan of electronic songs, so this isn't something that I would listen to.

Track 2-

Starts out with some A Capella. Then comes in a light acoustic guitar with male voices singing vocal harmonies. For some reason, I actually really like this song. The buildup and climax during the chorus is really well done. Overall a nice and soothing track. It suddenly ends though... I think there's just some issues with the file.

Track 3-

Starts out with Fix You organs, and into an alternative-y rock track. I like the fuzzy bass and the backup vocals during the chorus. A nice guitar solo as well. I really really like this track, because it's more like the music I listen to.

Track 4-

A poppy electronic-ish track. Then comes a really high male voice singing many parts at the same time. This song kinda focuses too much on the vocals, and it's kind of repetitive. At least it didn't fade out.

Track 5-

Snare drums start this song. Then comes in a jazzy voice with some Sax. Eh, this isn't something I would personally listen to.

Track 6-

Piano, synth, bass, and vocals start this song. The singing sounds like Brandon Flowers, but I could be wrong. I like how the guitar, piano, and bass blend together in this track. Nice tune.

Track 7-

I'm surprised I haven't heard any of the songs on this mix yet, but this one I definitely have heard. You and Your Heart, by Jack Johnson. It's a really nice track, starting out with a simple and light guitar riff. Like most other Jack Johnson track, it's a relaxing and enjoyable listen.

Track 8-

Starts out seeming like another jazz song, but it quickly kicks in with creepy guitar picking, and a chilling voice. A ghostly track. The lyrics are kinda crappy, and the vocals seem unsteady. I kinda wished this song built up and exploded, but it really didn't go anywhere.

Track 9-

Starts out instantly with a guitar riff and piano. Then comes in a male voice that I think I've heard before. I actually really like the soft chorus break in this song, and the guitar riff is really nice as well. I think the way the song progresses in this song is amazing. :)

Track 10-

Electronic drum sounds start this song, then comes in a female voice. It starts getting really really repetitive after about 2 minutes into the song. Sounds like someone was playing a video game over the recording track of this song. Again, this is definitely not something I would listen to.

Track 11-

Acoustic guitars start this track. I really like the way the 2 or 3 guitars all layer into one. 2 male voices come in for the chorus, which I really like. This track only gets better when tambourines kick in, and the song builds into something a lot heavier. It's a surprising song, I'll give it that.

Track 12-

Starts directly with female vocals and synthy sounds, with a harp. I'm not sure why, but I really like this song. It's probably because of the way all the instruments from the vocals to the percussion all blend together into one. It gets extremely powerful near the end, which I like as well.

Track 13-

Distorted guitars start this song, I really like the backing vocals in this song, and it sounds like quite a rocker. I feel like the drums and percussion could be much more powerful in this song. It's a really nice track, and it didn't even fade out!

Track 14-

Uh, I'm really not sure what's going on in this song; I think it's just low quality or something. I can't make out what the vocalist is singing. The electronic drums are a bit tooooo loud. It basically covers the vocals.

Track 15-

Sound like a really nice track, and the drums during the chorus is amazing. I like the bass line as well. The only bad thing about this song is the fact that I can't understand a thing the vocalist is singing, and I really like songs when I can understand them. However, it's still a really nice track.

Track 16-

Electronic sounds start this song. Then comes in a female voice. I think this song would've been good as a rock song, instead of an electronic-pop one.

Track 17-

The final song, and it starts out with piano. Male vocals come in. I really hope this song explodes, which it didn't. Too soft, in my opinion for the final track.

The songs that I really liked-

2,3,7,9,11,12,13

I had fun doing this review. Thanks for the mix!

Electro? :inquisitive:

Didn't know you loved the acoustic guitar so that was a co-inky-dink :D I thought you were a drummer :uhoh: Also, It seems you focus more on instrumentation than on lyrics.

I enjoyed making the mix, you have a good taste in music....and now you have an even better one ;)
