also i can't listen to my mixtape(the one i recieved) Help!

Hello! I made your mixtape. Sorry to hear you didn't like some of the tracks, and you knew some of them!

's okay, I'm very picky :shame: Hi, I'm William :awesome:

Ok... :stunned: Sorry you had so many troubles!

Anyway.....

:P I couldn't not put this song in. You only have five songs by Apparatjik?? :\

Yeah, before they releases their album I wanted some of their music for travelling and I only found five songs :\ Ferreting, Frozen Finger, We Are Apparatjik and a couple more. And I haven't seen the album anywhwere

Ummm... It's the band called The Church, and they're all Australian. Oh well.

:inquisitive: Oh. Oops. Great song, still.

Suicide? Not sure where you got that, but everyone's entitled to their own interpretation. :P The song is called You Get What You Give by The New Radicals.

Hold tight

You've got the music in you

Don't let go

You've got the music in you

One dance left

This world is gonna pull through

Don't give up

You've got a reason to live

I'm glad you liked this one. One of my favourite songs, and it sounded pretty good here!

Teardrop

It's ok. I disn't think you'd have heard this before. It's not from Eurovision, they're an Australian band called The Cat Empire. The lead singer is Australian too, but he has a Greek background. He's not faking the accent. They are an alternative band, with about 50 different musicians who collab for their albums. Very cheesy, but pretty funny too.:P

No, I figured that it wasn't Eurovision

Aussie, eh  I'll have to look into that....

Clocks by Faultline. It was on Your Love Means Everything; Chris wrote two songs for that album. Sorry you didn't like it!

Thought it was familiar...It wasn't bad or anything, and it's also the song I didn't get a chance to listen to as much.

:laugh3: Oasis! OASIS!! Not American in the slightest. Don't Go Away. Off the album Be Here Now.

 Their nationality was pretty obvious in reterospect...no matter, I never gave Oasis music a thought, they just seemed like... not very nice people.

The Cat Empire again. I thought the two songs that I chose by them were quite different. The song is called So Long.

:o I didn't guess it was the same. But that party organ :awesome:

:( Pity you didn't like this song. I love it! It's called Song For The Divine Mother Of The Universe by Ben Lee. And another thing: he's not American, he's Australian. He was born and raised in Sydney. :D

:shame::shame::shame: You shut me up. Anywho, I still hate it. :veryangry2:

Errrr... :laugh3:

Again, not American. The song is called (obviously) Summer Moved On, by a-ha, who are more commonly known for the song Take On Me, and are Norwegian.

:facepalm::facepalm: Ah, that is really emberassing! I'm never gonna write another cynical review again! :bigcry:

On the other, you just conviced me to see them live

I'm glad you appreciated it. And I acknowledge that we have different taste in music, so don't worry. :)

Sorry for my extreme paranoia against American singers :shame: I mean, it's not unreasonable and all, they are out to get me

Nice try, but no! :D

:shame: I've actually not seen you around, though

Under The Milky Way Tonight acoustic?

Hi there! I made your mixtape :nice: Thank you very much for posting your review. Honestly when I found out I had you, I had no idea what to put...I really didn't expect to have a guy so many of the songs I had chosen were kinda girly. They're also mostly mainstream as I'm not really avant garde at all with my musical tastes. High five for being a Muse fan though. And sorry for so many electro songs, I didn't even realize how many there were until you pointed it out...

I kinda assumed my mixtape maker would be American, haha (:

How did you tell I was a Muse fan? Did Exo-Politik give it away?

Well, I'm really more of an Oasis fan, so you can kinda realize why I didn't like the electronic-y stuff.

Many of those bands I've heard before, such as Kasabian, The Raconteurs, FatM, Pheonix, Brandon Flowers, Mika, and Imogen Heap, but I never heard any of their songs before. I'll definitely be checking some of them out.

One weird thing is that I always thought The Raconteurs were French. Guess they're not.

Hi, Ian. I was your mixtape maker. :)

Well, that's it. I'm really glad there were some things you liked. That's the main goal for any mixtape maker, I suppose. When I found out it was you I was making the tape for, I kinda started to spazz internally. :laugh4: I was like, "What if I put something on there he hates? He could kick me off the forum for this! D:" Well, maybe not, but you get my point. :P

Anyway, here's a condensed tracklisting:

1. “City of Safe Harbors”-Port Blue (The Albatross EP, 2008)

2. “Arrow and Bow”-Apparatjik (We Are Here, 2010)

3. “Kingfish Pies”-Midlake (Bamnan and Slivercork, 2004)

4. “Hunter’s Map”-Fionn Regan (The End of History, 2006)

5. “Undercover Martyn”-Two Door Cinema Club (Tourist History, 2010)

6. “Next to Me”-Civil Twilight (Civil Twilight, 2009)

7. “I’m a Pilot”-Fanfarlo (Reservoir, 2009)

8. “Singing Softly To Me”-Kings of Convenience (Quiet is the New Loud, 2001)

9. “King of Rome”-Goldheart Assembly (Wolves and Thieves, 2010)

10. “Alone Together”-Mesita (Alone Together Single, 2008)

11. “Creature Fear”-Bon Iver (For Emma, Forever Ago, 2008)

12. “Gotten”-Slash feat. Adam Levine (Slash, 2010)

13. “Stranger”-Noah and the Whale (The First Days of Spring, 2009)

14. “Lilac Wine”-Jeff Buckley (Grace, 1994)

15. “Down in the Past”-Mando Diao (Hurricane Bar, 2004)

16. “90-Mile Water Wall”-The National (Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers, 2003)

17. “Exit Music (for a Film)”-Vampire Weekend (Stereogum Presents…OKX: A Tribute to OK Computer, 2007)

As soon as I can find a way to get the stubborn Track 15 to work, I'll put up a link of my mixtape for everyone. :)

Its funny that the track I didn't like turned out to be Apparatjik, I haven't listened to them before the mixtape! It was good that there were artists from your neck of the woods, I hope I can find some of the stuff on Spotify :)

It's interesting that you say that. It's got me thinking. Guesstimating, I'd say at least 70% of the music I listen to isn't from America, and yet, the mixtape I made for you was almost 50% American. It makes me think that perhaps my views on American music are a bit construed.

Anyone wants a mixtape that hasn't received one PM me and I'll send you one.

Oh, just in case my mixtape maker is passing by... ( :curtain: ) my review is on page 52 ! *is still optimistic about getting a tracklist :D *

/run in the thread... I'm here!! sorry for the delay but I was in London for a few days (to see of the one band you didn't like in my mix actually XD) and back at work right away today so it's been kinda hectic these days...

@my mixtape maker, I'm gonna review your mix on sunday :)

I'm done with my review, but I could have said many other things about what I've heard... The tape I received was very eclectic and so, so interesting to listen to ! I am a very lucky girl. That was a great experience *_* Yep, let me tell you mixtape partner that you have awesome music tastes ! I personally think the tape you have made is a gem. Oh, and don't worry mixtape maker, you were right to send me a massive tape, I do appreciate it ! :wacky:

 thanks! I'm glad you loved it so much!!

Firstly I'd like to apologize for my poor English :sweatdrop: I'm afraid it may be a bit messy and bad written from time to time (if not always :embarrassed: ).

don't worry for your english and it's kinda ironic since we're both french XD

Well if you are not afraid of the length then ... here we go :

Track 1 : Wooo what a start ! That alarm at the beginning and at the end and that “let’s go” feeling is just awesome and to put it as the 1st song of this mixtape was a brilliant idea, it’s very appropriate. It’s a very accessible song and nice to listen to, no matter what. The voice is a bit unclear, but relaxing. Good song to listen to while on a journey to me. I love the echo in this song.

Glad you liked it :D I choose this one for 3 reason:

-1rst, it's from one of my favorite band and I didn't want to but an 'obvious' track of them.

-second, the alarm in the beginning, this catchy feeling was the perfect start for the mix I wanted to create.

-Third: the only lyric line which is 'you won't be around forever girl..you gotta grab life with both hands' has never been more true!

But, no more suspens, this song is Post punk progression by Snow Patrol (yeah, totally different from a 'chasing cars', right XD?!)

Track 2 : Oh that song, I’ve already heard it like a thousand times but I can’t get enough of it, very, very good choice !!! How can you not dance to this song? It is just so catchy from beginning to end, and has that classy sound/western style that I don’t know…sounds so right. The subtlety of the guitars, the beat and rhythm, the voices, everything is well balanced, this song is very fresh and has a young/bouncy side to it. I’d say it’s the kind of song you could easily play at camp, guitar/voice around the fire and sing with your friends. That crescendo at the end is :wacky: too. LOVE IT !!!

Though you would know this one (french+radio play) but this band grew on me after seing them live on a festival. It's 'No way' by Gush.

Track 3 : This track sounds original/unusual to me but but there’s that surprisingly good association of instruments (violins adding a lyrical side to the song, xylophone, tambourine ? etc ) that makes it unique. At first I thought it was an instrumental. I found it very ”rich” at times without getting heavy, at other times very simple and sincere (due to the handover between the players and the singer all along the song). It sound unpretentious and it’s a wonder for your ears. You get that overwhelming emotion of adventure when all the instruments can be heard together and then when it stops, a lost/depressed voice is breaking through. Strangely enough It’s a continuity, the song doesn’t break up in several parts but has 2 sides to it. An unleashed side and a quiet one. Seems like there’s no beginning nor end to this song, it could go on forever, but the abrupt ending and leaves me with an empty sensation, as if it was left uncompleted/unfinished. I am not sure but is there any balkanic/oriental (Indian) influences here ? ...Dancing on the grass barefeet song, much ?

Glad you liked it so much! I discover this artist with my 1rst mix echange (so thx for the one who send it to me at that time!) It's from a US artist called Andrew Bird, great violonist and performer. The song is Fake Palindromes.

Track 4 : Oh, nice beat ! That’s such an upbeat song (1st thoughts). There’s a slight groovy feeling to it and the singers’ voice is awesome as it is, it’s very light and truly leading the song and there’s no need to cover it with instruments (and they didn’t, which is a good thing, I like the subtlety in this song). Love the “clap clap” sound it in. Nice party song I guess, yeah that’s a nice summer song to dance to :D

Something I'm listening at the moment, a summer song nice and catchy! It's 'Clap your hands' by Sia (maybe you know her famous song 'breathe me'?)

Track 5 : To my mind this one is sober, classy beginning, Carefree, no problems, very soft and there’s a good flow/vibe/atmosphere to it. Mhh Jazzy ! I love the piano parts. A perfect summer song to listen to on a terrace/to chill out and to forget about your problems. It has a pretty girly chorus , the trumpet is sick and that lovely and bold voice is kind of … reassuring :) . Loved the snaps in the end as well. Great song that has grown in me little by little.

Another french one and he's from my hometown. He's starting to get known now and he sings in both french or english. This one is 'lose it' by Ben l'Oncle Soul.

Track 6 : Nice association acoustic guitar/electric guitar and drums play an important part in this. As a result that rhythm makes you shake your head without even thinking ! :D Gets more and more intense as time goes by, great guitar solo too. Oh what a nice voice ! , I found it charming as it breaks from time to time, it fits the music well here. Although it’s a high pitched voice it doesn’t get annoying at all here as I feared at the beginning, here it adds something somehow wild and natural ?! It goes wilder near the end and that acoustic guitar still playing in the background is very pleasant to hear .

Glad you get the spirit of this song (and actually the band) 'wild and natural'. This from another fav band of mine, the wonderfull Followill familly, aka Kings of Leon (you probably know 'sex on fire'?)! This song is called 'Fans'. I'm in love with Caleb (the singer)'s voice and his baby brother Jared ass kicking bass lines :awesome:

Track 7 : Is this song from Florence+The machine ? Awww that deep and ethereal voice is so wonderful… very mystical and expressive and well, overall organic. Interesting beat… ethnical . Yep another very interesting tune ! Bit of a stifling atmosphere but the light voice makes the whole thing well balanced . Wow it sounds like many violins are playing in this song ? Moving song (my, the violins again !). You can tell by the lyrics and sound of it that we are being told about a story, with twists all along. Imagery comes easily to one mind (especially when wearing earphones), very easy to imagine because very expressive. That’s pure epicness in the end !

Yeah, correct it's my dear Florence and 'pure epicness' is her trademark. This song is not from the album and it's 'swimming'.

Track 8 : “This is a song for anyone with a broken heart”. Woa this song is so full of compassion and hope and … Wow I fell in love with it instantly, it “hits” you I don’t know… and it’s simply breathtaking, but you have to be in the mood. Fortunately I am every time I listen to this song (and I did that many times already). It shows the singers’ fragility (it’s heartbreaking as soon as he starts singing, really) but is filled up with determination. The echo all through the song gives an awesome strength to it and the piano/guitars sound magnificent. Add a trumpet and you’ll get something very powerful . It makes me think of living a brand new life, moving out concretely and look forward to live brand new experiences . Sadness and fear disappear little by little and this song is like the ultimate cheer up song.

Glad, glad, glaaad, you liked it and again, felt what I was trying to make you feel! This line you quote is just sthg that make me melt...T.T This song is called 'blue skies' by the band Noah & the Whale ^^

Track 9 : Very different from the previous one. Very surprising and unusual once again. Here you have unleashed people trying hard to transmit harsh emotions (frustration, pain… The singer is cryng out with such strength, that’s very impressive). Unlike track 4, instruments (esp. the drums) and singer are complementary here. Once again I loved the piano part (haha the piano player is going crazy at times… :D ).

Again, good interpretation, I wanted sthg raw and dark. This band is quite fab! I loved the singer's voice...<3 This song is 'hang me up to dry' by Cold War Kids.

Track 10 : Here are my very first impressions on this track : Wash of sound, audacious, a bumpy ride but still very aerial and free. Several complementary, beautiful voices that are. Very deep, electronic . A song to get lost in easily. Very “clear”.

Héhéhé it's from the awesome danish band Mew ^^ This song is called 'special' and I advised you to check out on youtube their performance of it on the live from Copenhagen. Totally bad ass intro!

Track 11 : 80s ? Although I’ve never heard it before, nostalgy comes to my mind when I hear this, and it has a bittersweet feeling to it. Lovely “Oooooh” s by the way :wacky: . It’s all victorious and the synthetizer/guitar effects are make it well … almost magical haha :) In a retro way.

Really interresting that you thought it was from the 80's since it's inspired by it but it's 2010 song! It's 'Rocket' by Goldfrapp (band with which Davide Rossi -coldplay violin maker- works with...)

Track 12 : What a surprise ! That’s Placebo right ? Again it’s very different from the previous song. Mhh that’s a rather depressive song that hurts you almost physically and make you feel down. But I like how solemn and heartfelt it sound and you can imagine something important is going on, a kind of inner fight. I also like how the woman’s voice sounds very discreet. Both of the singers’ voice go well together. Loved the line “there’s a thunder in our heart”.

I wanted to hit 2 birds with one stone: put a group that I like (Placebo) with a song that is not from them but by Kate Bush (an 'old' singer but check her out). The song is 'running up that hill'.

Track 13 : Rock’n’roll ! This song makes me go hyper. Awesome guitars here and low (sexy) voice ! :D It’s not very well “organized” but that’s what makes it sound right actually. The refrain with the electric guitars and the drums is wow … excellent.

Glad you like it! The 'sexy voice' belongs to Franz Ferdinand's frontman (Alex Kapranos), and this song is called 'Micheal'. I'm sure you know 'Take me out' from them no?! A really amazing band to see LIVE!! They're incredible! But I'm not objectiv with them, I love them too much XD

Track 14 : This one made me smile, haha it’s a funny one. Waa it sounds… psychedelic, full of surprises to me ! Funky, but not too much. :D Anyway OH the bassline is insane !!! That’s all I can say, it makes you want to get up and dance like crazy. I call it communicative joy xD

You didn't recognize that voice?! It's Maroon 5!! It's their new single 'Misery' and just like you, it makes me want to dance like crazy XD! Perfect summer song!

Track 15 : This is the only song I didn’t really find attractive . I’m sorry, I mean it is ok to listen to but a bit basic. It is really short too, I wish it was longer ^^. Does it have country influences? I can hear they worked hard and managed very well with guitars. But I didn’t really like the singers’ voice … still it’s not bad ! I don’t hate it.

You were right for the 'country influences' since the album is based around this 'concept'. This is not the track I wanted to put, but their album just got released on monday, so when I did my mix, I had only the 1rst single....This song actually from a new band, or should I say 'supergroup' cause it's formed with people from different bands like Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol leader) (here my man on the vocals again but as you have heard, quite different way to sing than the 1rst track of this mix!)...Peter Buck (REM guitarist), Richard Colburn (Belle & Sebastian drummer) and many others! They made this 'country-like album' which for my part, I just adore :bomb: and after seing them live for their (for the moment) unique concert, I can't emphise enough on the greatness of this band ! Musically and lyrically amazing, give it a try, and we'll talk again ^^ So this song is 'dead american writers' by Tired Pony.

(and the song I wanted to put was my fav track of the Tired Pony album and sang by Tom Smith from the band Editors. Here it is 'the good book'

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uoPOW9618o]YouTube- Tired Pony - The Good Book (feat. Tom Smith from Editors)[/ame]

Track 16 : Oooh The Corrs ! Reminds me of Ireland and my beloved Brittany too haha, with these celtic influences…I can see images of wild nature, windy fields of grass and cliffs when I listen to this song :wacky: . This is the reason why I feel so at home while listening to this. Plus it’s energetic, infectious, typical, it feels so good. :awesome:

Yeah, that's the Corrs with 'Toss the feathers' :)

Track 17 : Ok I love you for choosing Wake Up from Arcade Fire (acoustic) and including it to your tape, I truly do. This song usually makes me cry but this version is even more touching, it’s nearly unbearable. That’s definitely my favourite song from your tracklist ! There’s so much despair in it and the lyrics are just… eye-opening, I don’t know what else to say, nothing compares to this song.

Once again, this song is a two birds with one stone ^^ Love this song from AF but this version is so amazing T.T It's sang by one of my favorite singer, the amazing scottish Paolo Nutini. If you like his interpretation, you should check out his covers (the one of 'gimme shelter of the Rolling Stones' is T.T). He has the ability to totally transforms the songs he covers. BUT he's also a amazing singer/songwriter on his own, you could check him out, he has 2 albums out (my favorite is the 2nd one, which is truly what Paolo is all about: SOUL and raw feelings.)

Track 18 : Wow wow wow, as weird as it may sound I flew far away with this song. It is subtle and dreamy, so genuine, in a good way and it makes me want to go and discover things around me. I’m travelling without moving in a way, and that’s mind-blowing. The fantasy in this puts me in an excellent mood. I’ve never heard something like this before. That’s why it’s hardly possible for me to describe it … It’s like … from another world. It makes you realize so many things at once, it’s so… full of life ! The orchestration is marvelous in this song (the flutes :awesome: ) . I don’t know if it is but could be used in a movie. Thank you so much for this !!! Seriously, I can’t stop listening to this song.

It's funny you said 'it's like coming from another world' cause that's exactly what I think of this man's music AND also that it could be use in movies...Cause this man's music is often used in movies! This track is actually from Jonsi (singer of the icelandic band Sigur Ros, again one of my fav band, but I didn't want to put a Sigur Ros song so I put one of Jonsi's new solo album). This one is called 'Boy Lilikoi' ^^ If you liked it, you should check out him and Sigur Ros (you probably know the song 'hoppipola', it's really famous), it's based on the same 'pattern'.

Jonsi and Sigur Ros music are sthg on their own, an other wordl, kinda magical and dreamy...peaceful...epic!

Track 19 : Well that’s without a doubt the perfect way to end this tape, so intimate and nostalgic, those square and fair memories the singer mentions . And he is here, singing alone with his acoustic guitar yet there’s nothing to add, it’s just perfect as it is. What a soft voice ! Singing that serenade, “oh mon amour, à toi toujours” etc … You made me cry so hard with this  . Well done haha ! It reminds me of Paris and old films… -sigh- You can just imagine the wooden horses of a carousel being here in front of you and children laughing . What’s more it’s romantic and …filled with love, it may sound cheesy but I kept smiling and humming all along the song. :D Nice, nice little tune. But it’s sad in a way, for it's about a lost memory…

A mix of mine wouldn't be one if I hadn't put my musical god in it...This track is actually a cover of an Edith piaf song (hence the french) called 'J'en connais pas la fin' and it's sang by the late Jeff Buckley. Jeff had a totally unique voice and was a musical genius. I thought this really soft song would be a perfect ending, like a epilogue...glad you liked it! Again, check out Jeff's work of you're curious..he's a genre on his own.

Thank you mysterious mixtaper, I had a great time listening to your tape, thank you so much  I will keep it with me preciously and keep on listening to it for a long time^^

Thanks for those who took the time to read this as well . That was such review a long review for you to read, right ? :sweatdrop:
