My Review (NO good at this :laugh3:)

#1.The mixtape opens with a soothing gentle song the kind that can calm you and give you shivers, a repetitive acoustic guitar drumming starts with the singer; who has a great voice and I swear I Recognise it . Hmmm ? :\

#2.Second one is a bit more lively, reminds me of Bombay bicicle club. Gives off a indie vibe and has great guitar and piano playing. ‘swim until you can’t see land’ repetitive but I love it.

#3.Straight away a piano song, it’s slow paced not quite my sort of song then it kicks into’it’s such a perfect day, Glad I spent it with you’ I’ll be honest it’s good but that is all for me.

#4.Electric guitar and a good drum opener, my kind of song. I Really like this song from the first listen. I Like this band need to know who it is. generally good feeling song that make me feel happy. My favourite so far.

#5.Sounds of harp and a ‘Kate Bush’ sort of singing style it’s nice singing but it kind of annoys me not sure why…not my kind of music if I’m honest.

#6.Piano and a ghostly electronic noise, First thoughts are Cool.

beautiful female voice mixed with xylophone, electronic keyboard sounds and violin. It draws you in and it’s definitely a grower, with each listen I Love it more.:)

#7.Opens with a ‘WAAAAAH’ slow steady drumming and guitar sounds with the ‘woooaah’ continuing through halfway , then a guitar solo bit and more Woooaah-ing. It’s a bit plain for me although it would make a good lullaby:\

#8.Drumming, then a Deep voice begins. Piano sounds and a quite familiar tune. Sounds like something off a musical and in a way I Like it. I’m guessing it’s called ‘the fix?’

#9.Guitar / banjo playing and singing start, bit hard tom understand the lyrrics. Folk kind of song I Must admit it was a bit boring for me.:\

#10.Flute playing nice soothing male voice much better when the drumline kicks in with guitar. ‘you run with the devil’ I Like it.:)

#11.Steady drumming, another male voice short and sweet, only 2 minutes long.Do like it sounds museish- could be wrong though.:)

#12.Straight away I’m into it, electro feel guitar and drumming. Indie music- I like it it makes me think Kaiser chiefs or Franz Ferdinand ? My kind of music. ‘come on home’ are the lyrics.

#13.Drumming with a steady rhythm. Man's voice is soft although a bit unclear at points.

#14. Drumming and guitar , really nice tune, voice is quite good something I Would definitely like to listen to.

:)

#15. great acoustic guitar woman’s voice sounds well.. I‘m not sure just really good. I Think this is also a grower, simple but that’s what I Like about it. Good rhythm to it and nice simple lyrics and with my 3rd listen I LOVE it.

#16. Guitar ‘Fade Out’ good drumming and rhythm which is something I Like in a song. Some trumpet quite an interesting sound together . Long instrumental bit

#17. Straight into the singing with a woman’s voice, acoustic guitar. Clear lyrics and a clear voice to understand .

#18. More acoustic , nice man’s voice ‘nothing’s gonna change my world’ good end to the tape

Good if you like acoustic/ folk but it’s got a mix of more electro stuff aswell. My fave songs would be

2,4,6,10,12,16,15,18

I Really loved it and clearly you read that I Wanted to listen to things I Haven’t heard before and that I Love the acoustic guitar, well either that or it's just a

co-inky-dink. Thanks .x

Finally ready to review!

First off, thanks so much, Mixtape Maker! :nice: I didn't really know any of these songs and found quite a few I really like, and some artists I'd like to hear more from!

Hahaha I stalked your last.fm profile sooo much to be sure that there wouldn't be any song you'd know on the tape :P

1. Starts with a really nice piano intro.. sounds vaguely familiar, but I'm pretty sure I haven't heard it before. "Come on, come on, put your hands into the fire..." nice vocals, and nice instrumentation. Like!

Most people know this song from the French movie 'Les Chevaliers du Ciel'. It was quite popular in France.

2. I wasn't sure I liked the singer's voice at first, but on second listen, I do! :) Good beat, nice instrumentation, lovely acapella section at the end. Really liked this one.

Hehe Canadian music at its best. I'm glad you got to finally like it.

3. Acoustic intro. I wrote "like" or "really like" about 4 times in my note for this song! :P Really liked the strings at the end.

My favorite Belgian artist  Such a pretty song

4. "Don't know why I'm still afraid; if you weren't real, I'd make you up..." really liked that lyric. :) Another good one!

Such a romantic song

5. Harmonica intro, upbeat with great harmonies, and a bit of an echo-y sound. Love this one! I feel like I should know who this is, but I don't! This one's probably my favorite of the bunch! :nice:

They're not very known, but they are lovely, I'll send you the link to their EP if you want me to

6. Really pretty intro, nice vocals. slow tempo for most of the song, then picks up mid-way thru. Nice lyrics, too!

7. I don't know/have this song, but it's Farewell to the Fairground by White Lies. I have one other White Lies song, which I really like, and I've checked out the album a couple of times, so I'm kinda familiar with their song titles :P I liked this one... will probably have to get the whole album!

You definately should!

8. Upbeat, sounds kinda familiar. "show me something good..." Good song, but didn't grab me right away.

It's my favorite Mew song, I know it doesn't catch everyone's attention, but I felt I should have put it anyways :wacky:

9. Metric? It really sounds like Emily Haines. Is this the song from the Eclipse soundtrack? Slower tempo, really like it!

Yes! Exactly! Except it's the acoustic version!

10. Like this one, too! nice instrumentation; like the vocals alot

11. The vocals on this one sound very familiar... is it Empire of the Sun? Like it!

Right on :nice:

12. Hmmm... definitely darker sounding than the previous songs. Love the vocals; is it the Editors? I'm just starting to listen to their stuff, and it sounds like it could be them. "You are what you eat..."

Yes, it's my favorite from their latest album. you should listen to more, they've become one of my faovrite bands of all time in a very short time :wacky:

13. This one is OK... nothing really stands out to me about it, but it's pleasant.

Psht :snobby: :P

14. Another familiar sounding track. Nice piano/atmospheric intro; picks up temp mid-way

One of my latest discoveries, and current obsession

15. "It's not heaven without you..." the voice on this is sooo familiar. Like it! Curious as to who it is!

Morning Runner  Too bad they split a few years ago though :disappointed:

All in all, a really nice mix! Thanks for taking the time to make it! Can't wait to hear what everything is! :nice:

 I am so glad you liked it :wacky:

I'd like to thank you for putting so much effort into listening and reviewing my first ever mixtape :smug:(sorry about the cover art that was still there). It's not too long at all! I loved reading it whilst listening to my mixtape and you were right about most things. I think we have much in common about music (we also have the same day of birth btw! September 7 rules ! )

You were a though customer as I barely had something to base myself on (I stalked you a bit but I could only find your previous mixtape). But I'm really glad that you didn't totally dislike it and I really hope that's you'll listen to some to the songs from time to time, or that I made you discover at least 1 new artist/song. I'm sorry that I couldn't really give you varied music, I tried as much as I could but that mixtape just represents my musical taste and I couldn't give you what I don't have or love right?

If you ever need new material of artists you can always pm me, I'll be happy to share.

Thanks again :D

So, here's my review for a beautiful ambient mixtape made by someone I really thank

Track 1: Sooo calm, so peaceful. I would just love to lie on a beach, at night, chill and listen to this song, I feel like it would be just perfect.

Track 2: Wow, so powerful. Such a beautiful instrumetal. Long but worth it. One of the highlights of the mixtape. Everytime the drums comes in, my heart jumps and I get carried by the intensity of the song.

Track 3: ooh nice acoustic song. I thought it was okay, is it Belle & Sebastian? I tried to get into them a few weeks ago, but it sadly didn'T work. I like the music, but I don't like the guy's voice too much :\

Track 4: Awesome piano instrumental. Just beautiful. I loved it.

Track 5: At my first listen of the mixtape, it was my favorite. Stunningly beautiful. So keyboard, the guitar effects, the vocals.. the whole mix is so pretty.

Track 6: Hmm, very ambient, sounds okay, but not really one of the highlights of the mixtape.

Track 7: I wasn't too sure at the beginning of the song, but as the singer starts singing, it gets better and better. A nice track :nice:

Track 8: Interesting instrumental. Didn't really catch me, but I can see why you like it, if you're a fan of ambient music.

Track 9: I knoow that sound!!! This voice and this kind of music! I'm gonna day the National, but it's a long shot guess. I like it, it's quite good.

Track 10: I could recognize this voice everywhere, it's so unique. Jónsi, such a calm and lovely sound. From the lyrics, I think it's Grow Til Tall. I downloaded his album and listened to it, my friends are obsessed with him, no wonder why I know the tile without even lsitening to it often  Anyways, nice choice, I like it very much.

Track 11: Very calm. Not outstanding but pleasant to listen to, definately.

Track 12: Omg omg omg omg omg. I love that song! Sleeping Lessons by The Shins! So great  I just love the whole thing, thansk for putting it on my mixtape :wacky:

Track 13: The classical guitars are just lovely. And then the piano chords... it's calm, but there's this feeling that something is coming.. and then calm, heartwarming piano outro.. wonderful, one of the highlights.

Track 14: The vocals on this one got to me from the first listen  I love it, I love the ambiance, I love the chords progression... very beautiful. An highlight as well. :wacky:

Track 15: Very calm. Quite beautiful, a nice transition.

Track 16: I know the sound of that voice.. I know it.. and the atmosphere of the lyrics... gaaaaaaaah. Sounds a bit like The Swell Season, I think I recognized Marketa, and then Glen near the end. Anyways, it is beautiful. Calm. But lovely.

Track 17: Very quiet, very calm, very ambient. Not my usualy kind of stuff, but I didn't hate it either. it's probably very nice to listen to at night, when you're alone. looking at the stars.

Track 18: Calm, once again, and a very pretty last song to close the mixtape. It carried the ambiance the whole mixtape had and it was beautiful :)

All in all, it was a good one, very ambient, very calm, quite original, I must say. From the ambient atmosphere in it, I think I can guess who made it  but I'm gonna wait for him to manifest himself before spoiling the surprise :lips:

I made your Mix Tape, you don't know me I guess... Don't post alot...

Here's my review:

Track 1- Rufus Wainwright = I absolutely love his voice, it’s so pure. I didn’t know this song though so thank you for putting it in here! The piano throughout is a perfect counterbalance to his melody, especially the scales in the middle. No other instrument is needed to make this song perfect.

Track 2- Hmmm, nice native american-esque drumming in the beginning. I kinda hate the woman singing though. Its just too soft with the violins swelling in the background. I hardly even noticed I couldn’t understand what she was saying until half way through not because she was mumbling, but singing in another language! Being over five minutes was a little excessive, especially because the instrumentals just repeated as did the vocals. Ah well, can’t like them all.

Track 3-I love listening to french songs, so despite not understanding this one either, I liked it quite a bit. It has a really catchy feel, and I loved the mixed guitar in the background. My second favorite track, i’ve been singing the do-do-do’s all day!

Track 4- I liked this one a lot, too. The singer has a very subtle sweet daydream-y quality to his voice that kind of just makes me want to get in the car with the roof down and drive through the countryside. I really liked the harmonies with the very deep voice, but really wasn’t fond of the brass sections. It kind of threw off the content feeling of the rest of the song.

Track 5- Ah, another piano track. Or at least it was until two minutes in. Nonsensical lyrics definitely, but I really didn’t mind because I was too hypnotized by his voice. The sudden influx of instrumental totally worked with his tone too, I think. The vibrato he used when holding out a note really added greatly to the feel of the song, still pure, but different than others that I’ve heard before. I think I want to hear more of this band/singer.

Track 6- The instrumentals throughout really gave me a vampire weekend feel which I really liked and the fast tempo was very upbeat and dencey, but the singers high pitched “mild fascination” was kind of annoying after five minutes. Especially when I couldn’t understand what he was singing half the time with the change in pitch from high to really low. The first thirty seconds was the best part after that it just goes downhill for me.

Track 7- More french and piano! Yay! This guy’s voice realllllly doesn’t work with such a nice piano section though in my opinion. Maybe if the mixers had toned down his voice and maybe balanced the piano a little so its not overpowering him it would be better. It is calming, even though I have no idea what emotion he is trying to sing about.

Track 8- sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet diiiiiiiiiiiiispooooooooooositiiioooooooooon :D I LOVE The Temper Trap. They are one of my favorite bands right now and I actually included one of their songs on my mix , too. Everything about their songs is amazing. Everyone should go out and buy Conditions.

Track 9- Ugh. Don’t like. I have a bit of a problem with female vocalists which is really weird considering I’m a girl, but unless they are like pitch perfect and have strong tones I’m just overly critical. Even the instrumental did nothing for me in this one, however. Too mellow and raspy.

Track 10- Another piano tune. This guy has a smooth voice as well. The only thin I think that sets this one apart is the lyrics actually seem to be well thought out contain a story instead of just random mumblings. The doo doo doo chorus is a bit of a cop out though. Good, not anything special. Reminds me of Damien Rice.

Track 11- I feel like I’ve heard this one before. All sweeping messages and choruses, very upbeat yet soft at the same time. One I could see myself listening to often. Very mainstream sound to it. Its definitely one of those “rock” bands that are actually soft and emotion filled more than rock-y.

Track 12- Nice guitar intro. I’ve definitely heard this before. The whole “see the world, find an old fashioned girl” bit is just too familiar. I love the cheesy “sha-la-la”s. Very country feel to it without being country at all. Maybe it’s the singers voice that does it, he has that rough older man’s voice that’s so typical of country. It’s nice.

Track 13- Changing it up now, huh? It’s a refreshing change really after all of this piano (which I love don’t get me wrong). Rap was unexpected, I don’t usually like it, but its not bad still as mellow as the rest of the tape. “It’s funny how music puts times in perspective” I really liked. Generic backing beat, but good lyrics.

Track 14- Apparently this one is by Beach House, at least that's what the thing says. That's alright though because I have no idea who this group is and have never heard of them before. Almost six minutes is just too long. Despite that, I liked this one the most out of the female singers. The atmospheric backdrop really highlighted her voice and blended really well. I'd be interested in hearing more from this group.

Track 15- Elevator music? Kinda. It reminds me of the instrumental music the television guide channel plays here. Did I like it anyway? Yes. Good ending to the tape.

Thanks again!

Still waiting on my review....hmmm....I feel like I'm stalking the person I made the tape for!

Yeah, you introduced me to Novastar through the Belgian Music thread. :D I don't know them nearly as well as I'd like, but I definitely remember that song. The music video for it is pretty much the cutest thing ever. :wacky:

Haha I'm glad my mission with the Belgian artists thread worked out :smug: and I have to agree about the video

My recipient still hasn't even signed in in the past ten days. And I still can't find the post where she even signed up.

*twitches madly*

TO MY MIXTAPE MAKER:

I ALREADY REVIEWED IT, <3

Received my mixtape, reviewing while I listen...with song information unfortunately. But that happened to me last time too, it's no big deal. :nice:

1) Motion City Soundtrack! I've been meaning to give them a listen. Pretty good, poppy and catchy. Good start.

2) Oooh I like the intro! Nice strings! If I didn't know better I'd say it sounds like vuvuzelas. But much more pleasant. Never heard of this band but I think I might check them out now. They have a nice warm, thick sound.

3) Also a very warm sound...haha I just don't know how to describe it. I guess I suck at writing reviews. The singer has a really good voice though.

4) Ok so I cheated a little...I couldn't open it in iTunes so I looked it up on YouTube since I had the info. But I like it! It's kind of electronic-sounding, with a catchy bass line and some "Ah, ah ahs" that cut in and out, and some synth and distorted guitar later on.

5) Opens with acoustic guitar, female singer, then some light bass and backing vocals are added. Kind of sounds like Ingrid Michaelson a bit? Very mellow, with cute, romantic lyrics: "Be mine, Valentine." Aww.

6) "When I watch you, wanna do you, right where you're standing..." Heh. This is really good though, quite upbeat. Sounds a bit like The Strokes, but punkier.

7) Another upbeat rock song. I'm sh-sh-shaking. I like it.

8) Oh hey I've heard this song! I always thought it was the Black Eyed Peas but apparently not? Sounds like them though. Very upbeat, with a sort of hip hop-reggae beat. This is a very nice contrast to everything I've heard so far.

9) Same as #4, I had to YouTube it. Meh. Very catchy though, interesting lyrics..."You are the girl I've been dreaming of ever since I was a little girl," sung by a guy? Hm. The video is really interesting too if you haven't seen it. Pretty good overall.

10) Piano ballad? Oh, John Legend. Classic. I really like the lyrics. "We can destroy hunger, we can conquer hate. Put down your arms and raise your voice, we're joining hands today." How inspirational! iTunes recommends a playlist called Election Songs, lol.

11) My sister loves The Rocket Summer so I'm somewhat familiar with him. I like what I've heard so far and this is no exception. Very upbeat. It makes me happy.

12) Moby? I think I've heard this one before. I like it. Lots of strings, delicate piano, and atmospherics with a techno beat.

Overall, awesome job! Not a single song I dislike. :D I'll have to check out some of these artists. Thanks so much! :nice:

Yeah sorry about the info and the password! Glad you liked it though. The songs are out of order but I'm pretty sure I know which ones are which. I know the band Young the Giant through a friend. They just recorded their first album (no release date) and I sincerely believe they are going to be the next big band. Their sound is incredible. Plus... the song I put on there... they recorded when they were all 17... so the best is yet to come!

So, here's my review for a beautiful ambient mixtape made by someone I really thank

Track 1: Sooo calm, so peaceful. I would just love to lie on a beach, at night, chill and listen to this song, I feel like it would be just perfect.

It's pretty much the smoothest song I could find. It's called "London in February" by Coastal: a really soft, soporific slowcore band. My strategy was to alternate between short, ambient pieces and more upbeat rock tracks.

Track 2:Wow, so powerful. Such a beautiful instrumetal. Long but worth it. One of the highlights of the mixtape. Everytime the drums comes in, my heart jumps and I get carried by the intensity of the song.
"The Birth and Death of the Day" by Explosions in the Sky, one of the more accessible post-rock bands. I adore these guys, if you liked this track, definitely check out one of their albums.

Track 3: ooh nice acoustic song. I thought it was okay, is it Belle & Sebastian? I tried to get into them a few weeks ago, but it sadly didn'T work. I like the music, but I don't like the guy's voice too much :\

You guessed right. His voice is sort of unique, so I get how it can be a turn off. The track is called "If you're Feeling Sinister" off the album of the same name.

Track 4: Awesome piano instrumental. Just beautiful. I loved it.

"Horizon Variations" by Max Richter. He makes a lot of contemporary neo-classical music. The album its off of ("The Blue Notebooks") intersperses quotes from Kafka throughout some of the tracks.

Track 5:At my first listen of the mixtape, it was my favorite. Stunningly beautiful. So keyboard, the guitar effects, the vocals.. the whole mix is so pretty.

I'm so glad you liked it :D. It's "Raising Your Voice...Trying to Stop an Echo" by Hammock, a post-rock duo from my home state. Their music consists mostly of ambient instrumentals, but this is one track where they really take off.

Track 6: Hmm, very ambient, sounds okay, but not really one of the highlights of the mixtape.

"Tommib" by Squarepusher. It's not really meant to be a highlight so much as a nice instrumental bridge into the next track. I'll admit I stole it from the scene in 'Lost In Translation' where Charlotte is staring out over the city from her hotel window.

Track 7: I wasn't too sure at the beginning of the song, but as the singer starts singing, it gets better and better. A nice track :nice:

Right after I sent my mix in, my only concern was whether I should've chosen a different song by Fictionist. Nonetheless, they're a really great band, this one is called "Set Me On Fire" off of the album "Invisible Hand".

Track 8: Interesting instrumental. Didn't really catch me, but I can see why you like it, if you're a fan of ambient music.

No doubt by now you've pinned my musical taste to a T :P. This was an interesting one though. It's technically by Jon Hopkins, but it's a remix of a simple piano track called "Small Memory" that sounds absolutely nothing like his previous work.

Track 9: I knoow that sound!!! This voice and this kind of music! I'm gonna day the National, but it's a long shot guess. I like it, it's quite good.

I chose a lot of 'obvious' bands like The National, The Shins, Jonsi etc. on this mix. I was initially going to replace them after I saw the size of your band library on last.fm, but I went ahead after seeing they weren't on the list. I knew you'd recognize them, but at least you wouldn't be sick of them by the time you heard them on my mix. This song is my current fave off of High Violet, "Lemonworld" (but you already knew that from the chorus).

I was initially going to have a Tim Hecker track here but I kept falling back on the songs I thought you'd enjoy more. I felt that this particular track was a decent compromise because of the way it sort of disintegrates near the end. I'm glad you liked it.

Track 11: Very calm. Not outstanding but pleasant to listen to, definately.
"The Light" by The Album Leaf. Probably not their best track, but I was determined not to repeat a bunch of songs from my last mix, and I'm oddly endeared to this one. It's a little on the safe side, but I rather put someone to sleep than annoy them.

Track 12: Omg omg omg omg omg. I love that song! Sleeping Lessons by The Shins! So great  I just love the whole thing, thansk for putting it on my mixtape :wacky:

You're welcome! :wacky:

Track 13:The classical guitars are just lovely. And then the piano chords... it's calm, but there's this feeling that something is coming.. and then calm, heartwarming piano outro.. wonderful, one of the highlights.

Another song I stole from Lost In Translation, "Alone In Kyoto" by Air. I thought you'd like it, I love all the little textures they implement.

Track 14: The vocals on this one got to me from the first listen  I love it, I love the ambiance, I love the chords progression... very beautiful. An highlight as well. :wacky:

"Machine Gun" by Slowdive. I'm a sucker for shoegaze and I really like the sound of the vocals in this one. I was slightly afraid it might get boring after the first chorus, so again I'm very happy that you liked it.

Track 15: Very calm. Quite beautiful, a nice transition.

Another Filler, and an excuse to throw in another of two Eluvium tracks. This was called "Hymn #1".

Track 16: I know the sound of that voice.. I know it.. and the atmosphere of the lyrics... gaaaaaaaah. Sounds a bit like The Swell Season, I think I recognized Marketa, and then Glen near the end. Anyways, it is beautiful. Calm. But lovely.

I forgot how much I loved this song before I decided to to add it to the mix. "I Have Loved You Wrong" by The Swell Season.

Track 17: Very quiet, very calm, very ambient. Not my usualy kind of stuff, but I didn't hate it either. it's probably very nice to listen to at night, when you're alone. looking at the stars.

I was probably more eager to share this track than any other. It's "All The Sails" by Eluvium off of his E.P. "When I Live by the Garden and the Sea". At the very least I thought it would be an interesting experience.

Track 18:Calm, once again, and a very pretty last song to close the mixtape. It carried the ambiance the whole mixtape had and it was beautiful :)

If I could, I would've made this a 'hidden track'. I must confess I was partially motivated to end with this song because my name is shouted a couple times in the intro, and I thought it would be a cute way of revealing who made the tape...Oh, and it's "San Solomon" by Balmorhea.

All in all, it was a good one, very ambient, very calm, quite original, I must say. From the ambient atmosphere in it, I think I can guess who made it  but I'm gonna wait for him to manifest himself before spoiling the surprise :lips:

I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it! I'm also very curious if I was the person you suspected. :P

Best mixtape ever. Not biased though. Especially Track #8 I was so tempted to put that in mine.

Haha, thanks!

btw, I 100% guarantee my mystery mixer a review tomorrow. I've listened to it twice, but it's just too late for me to start typing it all up tonight. Hang tight!

Hey Alexa, I made your mixtape, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

1. Animal Arithmetic - Jonsi: Yeah, he has a pretty recognisable voice/style. Thought it would be a nice way to open.

2. Ambling Alp - Yeasayer: You probably had definitely heard this song before so no wonder it was familiar.

3. Art House Director - Broken Social Scene: One of my favourite songs on the album. At one stage it was going to be "chase scene" but I changed my mind.

4. Miami - Foals: If you liked this song you should definitely check out some more of their stuff. Some of the best music made this year.

5. Come Back Home - Two Door Cinema Club: Yep you picked it. It was hard to pick as song from them that would fit on the tape.

6. Clarion Call - Delphic: Seems like I'm the 10th person to put this on their tape.

7. Baptism - Crystal Castles: I suspected that you wouldn't like this song but I thought I might as well shove it in to change the pace a bit. I agree, the beat is nice.

8. Alter Ego - Tame Impala: It was hard to pick I song off their album as well as their songs flow better on the album then they do on a mixtape.

9. Mignight Detectives - Owen Pallett: I know what you mean by funny weird.

10. Lover of Mine - Beach House: Right again. This is my favourite track from the new album.

11. Blood Buzz Ohio - The National: Sorry about the lyrics. I completely forgot about them altogether. I glad you hadn't heard it and I'm glad you liked it.

12. The Mall And Misery - Broken Bells: This is another artist I would highly recommmend you check out if you haven't done so already. There is so much variety on the album its definitely worth listening to.

13. Dead Hearts - Stars: This was the only song on the tape that I knew that you had actually heard of, the rest was completely blind. I thought you would enjoy it towards the end of the tape.

14. Paradise Circus - Massive Attack: I think I remember you mentioning once that you like these guys. It was between this track and something by UNKLE's new album but I chose this instead.

15. The Sea Is A Good Place To Think Of The Future - Los Campesinos!: I had no idea you liked these guys either. I took me a while to get into this album but this is my favourite song on there. Thought it would be a great way to end.

Hey, thanks for listening to the tape with an open mind and for the great review. You did really well for the first time. The only thing I would like to know is, what made you suspect this tape was made by a girl. I'm interested.

EDIT: Here is a link if anyone else wants a listen. http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=f409f456de5b12acb808d4260196a6f65be51ebffef818ba198320f8fc7ef5522fbc0790c3d2f5ab018e3e52560e2feb

Oh well thanks a lot! I was very interested in getting new tunes and you managed to do it well so thanks a lot.

I'm interested in listening to Massive Attack again, a few months have passed since I last listened to them and I'm glad you recommended Broken Bells, Lauren recommended them before as well but I forget to check out bands sometimes.

I thought it was a girl cos.. it sounds like a chick mixtape. I dunno how to explain it. It's not meant to be an offense btw.

Thanks again, very very very nice :nice:

^Your welcome.

Ok so here is my review on 4th listen.

Track 1: Sorry, but I skipped it.

Track 2: Temper Trap! Love these guys. One of my favourite new bands and their music is fantasitc. Glad you put this in. Would've made a better openning track.

Track 3: Starts with a lovely acoustic guitar and harmonica which gives it that folky sound. The lyrics are thoughful and the chorus is composed of really strong layers of voices. The drums in the second half are great and it build to a really powerful ending.

Track 4: Opens with a beautiful female voice and the calming backing music of deep piano chords and soft percussion. Manages to pull of the lyric in the chorus "You are everything, you are nothing at all" without sounding corny at all.

Track 5: This voice sounds very familiar. The guitar strumming is great and it creates a nice and soothing song. Overall, not bad at all.

Track 6: Another piano track. I am a sucker for those. The lyrics suit the tone of the song well, "Sing me to sleep".

Track 7: Powerful drums to start the song. Once again, the voice is very familiar. It's not Florence but it sounds a lot like her. Electric guitar is great in the instrumental section in the middle. The lyrics don't get repitive either and they make a great melody, "Wait, they don't love you like I love you".

Track 8: Jonsi! Love this track; one of my favourite albums this year. Fits in nicely after the last track.

Track 9: Another female song. Closer to a pop song. Very upbeat and catchy. Melody is stuck in my head now.

Track 10: Interesting beginning. Distinctively different style to the rest of the tracks beforehand. It has a very rich composition and I would have trouble classifying it into a genre. That being said, I don't hate it but it probably isn't the sort of music I would listen to.

Track 11: This song is a classic by Crowded House. I haven't heard it in a while and it was quite refreshing to hear. Prompted me to go and get the greatest hits after I had been meaning to do it for a while.

Track 12: Snow Patrol! Love this song. They are one of my favourite bands.

Track 13: Piano + violin equals beautiful, wonderful, incredible instrumental track.

Track 14: This is a very much 'rockier'kind of song. If I could decribe it I would say an anti-war punk song. Not really my kind of song.

Track 15: Another plucky guitar song. A female vocalist is brought in for the chorus and complements the song quite nicely. Horns on the end are well placed and the repeated line at the end "I'll do anything for you" is lovely.

Track 16: This is an electronic track that is almost physadelic in a way. Very dreamy and spaced out. Vocalist is very calming.

Track 17: Sorry, but I skipped this one as well.

Track 18: Nice electric guitar combined with an xylophone sounding instrument. It sounds like mew so it probably is but I have no idea what song it is. It ends with a soaring vocal melody and is a brilliant way to finished the mixtape.

Overall I enjoyed the mixtape a lot. Apart from tracks 1 and 17 the tape was excellent. It was good to listen to a range of songs that I did know, and ones that I didn't. The prominence of female vocalists also was good as I need more of those in my library. I will be interested to find out who they are. Again, thanks for the tape. I hope you had as much fun making it as I did listening to it.

YAY! Well, I was your mixtape maker and it was quite the task! You and I have a very alike music taste and I had trouble finding things that you hadn't listened to... Minus the Lady GaGa and Ke$ha. Sorry about those, by the way!

Anyways, I'm glad you enjoyed it for the most part! :wacky:
