I was referring to these comments:

Don't think these comments have anything to do with the penalties today. And I also remember people calling Ronaldo con a few pages back.

(EDIT: I meant "I don't think these comments have anything to do with the choice of him being the 5th taker in the penalties today.)

He is a show off but he is also a good player and like him there are other show offs in football. I just don't understand why everybody here seems to be focused on him.

I agree with you though when you say "it wouldn't be ridiculous to suspect he wanted to take a winning penalty", I just don't think that's a valid reason to write those hate comments. If anything, people who support Portugal would have the right to be mad at him, which I think nobody is.

You need to relax, you're way too defensive about Ronaldo and your country. Those comments were at the very most, taunting, not hateful or aggressive or anything. Ronaldo has famously cried in the past when losing, someone mentioned that, he's argued for getting players sent off in major tournaments, he's equally as known for his diving abilities as his skill, so stop whining, he has made himself a target for much more abuse then what has gone on in this thread.

You're being ridiculous.

No, she's completely right!! You dont know how much it means for us our national team or country, if you dont understand that, i'm really sorry and the way everyone talks about ronaldo or conaldo is really offensive, i dont see anyone here calling names to the others, except for Portugal or Porkygall like someone mentioned here, that is ridiculous.

ONE person said 'Conaldo' and 'Porkygall', once, and that was like a week ago or more, I can't believe both of you still remember that one incident, get over it.

'Condaldo' is not highly offensive, are you joking here? It's meant to be playful but if you want to take everything to do with your country in a literal and offensive sense then fine, -the term started when he tried to get Rooney sent off by twisting a referees view, since then he's become infamous for diving over himself- cheating, being a con, and he gets paid millions a year to trip over his own legs. Everyone's mentioned that he is no doubt a great player, but if you watch him play regularly then you'll know that the term 'Conaldo' isn't "really offensive", in fact it's not far from the truth, it's debatable.

I understand what the Euro's mean for a country, don't assume that I wouldn't, I'm just not a freak who starts stalking out opportunities to get defensive about my country whenever it's mentioned in any vague sense.

Last match in Poland today. Thank you all fans! :bigcry:

As I feared:

ITALY scored against Germany.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But at least the current Italian team is playing offensive football.

In the past it was a very defensive team.

Go on Italy! Their football history and culture is crackers while being fascinating at the same time. You simply never rule the Azzurri out do you. And yeah nancy you are right there! Prandelli has given a different look to this Italian team after becomig more attack minded. His Fiorentina team a few years back were very good like that. Now we will see what Germany are really made of but I'm in a dilemma. Watch this or watch what is potentially a MASSIVE upset at Wimbledon - Rafa Nadal is 2 sets to 1 down against the Czech Rosol in the second round! Watch this or that?

Bloody hell?! 2-0 Italy!!

Inexperience showing for Germany? Horror show for the defence. Need a bit of Mertesacker in he air to stop the ball in the air not Badstuber. I said it from the start of the tournament - need a bit more experience than Badstuber is offering. Dropping Hummels is not an option so it has to be Mertesacker and Hummels. Mertesacker would be able to control and order hat defence much better as he showed often until he got injured in February. They needed to defend deeper but they don't have have that option now I fear. They will have to press high and go for it!

Edit: Looks worse all the time you see it if you're supporting Germany with that second goal.

:vuvuzela:

They have just been absolutely outstanding have Italy. They really deserve to get to the final. Maybe Germany are just still a bit too raw at this stage. Two years time in Brazil should be their stage.

German's got too ahead of themselves? As poor as they were tonight, Italy were superb. Showing us all what a great nation they are yet again.

No football until Sunday, aargh!

well, instead of overreacting and writing an entire post in caps I'll just post this:

:vuvuzela:

I predicted that Italy had a good chance of winning tonight. Just because they always seem to grow in a tournament and well, they're not Germany so they can play without really HAVING to win. The match showed that. Germany adapted their system to the Italians in stead of just starting from their own strength.

Italy Spain in the first round was one of the best matches or the tournament. Excited to see how this will play out

(I'm sorry to come back to an old topic, congratulations Italy! :))

I don't hate him, I think he's annoying. And I have to admit, he's a great player.

Fair enough :).

Yes, Ronaldo is a great player, but I do not like that several times, he tried to simulate that he had been attacked in the hope of being awarded extra free kicks or even better a penalty.

As I've said before I don't really watch that much football but I guess all players do that.

You're being ridiculous.

I'm not whining. These were my words: "Jeez you guys really hate Ronaldo. Chill out people." You then explained that "most of the hate is on the decision to have him as 5th penalty taker, not on the player himself". Then, so that you could see what I was talking about, I quoted the comments which seemed targeted to the player himself.

And as you can see, you said "most of the hate" and now you say these comments were not hateful.

Whatever. I didn't whine in that post, I just made a simple comment on the way people seem to perceive Ronaldo here. I don't even like him that much so I'm not about to start a discussion to defend him if that was your point.

And please don't call me ridiculous.

I'm just not a freak who starts stalking out opportunities to get defensive about my country whenever it's mentioned in any vague sense.

Please see my explanation.

Writing "Bye Ronaldo!" or "He was saying 'injustica', hehe" does not warrant the term "hatred", and going "Wow you guys really hate Ronaldo" from that is a huge over-reaction.

When I said "most of the hate" that was an incorrect term to get across a point, that most people were negative about the decision to have him as 5th penalty taker, not about Ronaldo himself. The people who made these 'hateful' comments as you view them, were mocking, not being horrifically offensive.

I respect you politely requested that I don't call you ridiculous, just stop being ridiculous then. However looking at it again, it was wrong for me to imply you were 'whining' as in going on and on about it, when I did ask you to explain what you meant by the 'hate' comments, which yes, I still deem those not hateful whatsoever, and you're being over-sensitive towards anything to do with your country.

Yeah, just to clarify, I don't 'hate' him either. He's a very good player. Yes, I think he's arrogant as hell, but so are half the English side, lol. I have an old World Cupp grudge against him from '06, but that takes nothing from his talent. And my gripe, like most, was that he should have been earlier in line to take a penalty shot.:)

Now don't make me start booking people!
