And Torres could also have scored to 4:0 and thus be the top scorer of this tournament. But he is unselfish so another Spanish player scored to 4:0.Ā Ā Only 1 goal scored against Spain during the entire tournament - very impressive - and that was Italy so alright that it was Italy in the finals.Ā Ā CONGRATULATIONS TO SPAIN. Not see anything like that since Cruyffs total football dutch side of 73-74.Ā It's a point Rafa Benitez made in analysing why Spain were so good but he also pointed out that Spain were also so good because many have grown up and played together for years. Ā It's no coincedence though that Spain are dominant at a time when Real Madrid and Barcelona are by some distance the two best club sides in the world and that their greatness aligns with the greatness of Barcelona. We are very lucky to witness this Spanish side as we were with Barcelona. Certainly makes up for those of us who weren't around to witness the great Milan side of the late 80s and early 90s and the Brazil 1970 team.

Ā It's to Barcelona's credit that they've developed a team almost entirely of Spaniards, and it's to Spain's credit that these players are good enough to play for Barcelona. It's not exactly an advantage by crooked means; they've put a lot of work into the academies, and there's a degree of luck that all these good players have come through at once.Ā If anything, we should encourage sides to build their academies to the strength of Barca's, right?
