Jermain Defoe was the hero at Wembley tonight as the Tottenham striker smashed home a hat-trick in England's comfortable European Championships qualifier against Bulgaria.

Adam Johnson grabbed his first senior England goal shortly after replacing Theo Walcott as a substitute in the second half.

 

The result provides much needed relief for Fabio Capello.
