Do you find that you have to listen to an entire artist's catalog, or do you find yourself jumping from album to album irrespective of the artist? If I like an artist, I usually have to listen to everything they've put out. I tend to go in "phases" with artists where I will work through their entire catalog until I'm done. This can be an arduous task sometimes, and, occasionally, you have to listen to a lot of crap. To me, it's usually worth it, though.

I'm definitely a bigger fan of artists than of individual albums. I usually try to listen to everything a band has released. I'm a bit of a completest. :shy:

depends on the artist. To get all the albums a band comes out with is a large investment. The artist has to be really good and their music also has to evolve from album to album. If a solid band generally sticks to one sound throughout their music, I'll just get their best album. But if I love the band, or they complete reinvent themselves between albums, then I'll collect several (if not all) of their albums.

Because if you like one album by a musician, why would you only listen to that one? There are most likely a number of others by them that you would love. And listening to an artist with lots of phases can help you figure out what you really like about a song or album. Because once you pick out a favorite album by an artist, you discover that there might be a reason why you like it so much.

Sometimes I say, "I'll listen to their first/other albums and see if I like it"

If I already like the artist, then I'm going to download it anyways, even if I don't like the album THAT much, that I'll listen to it everysecond, like maybe for example their 3rd album.

 

But then it grows on me, if they good job in an album, they won't make total crap in the next, maybe bad, but listen..able.

 

Sometimes it happens tho, like The Killers, I only liked Day & Age, the others.. just sound the same to me now.. too bad I already downloaded all of them including Sawdust :blank:

Sometimes I don't like everything by a particular artist, but I still feel like I have to listen to it. There are some exceptions. For example, I know I am probably never going to make it through the entire Rolling Stones catalog. It's just so massive.

When they're bands that have a HUUUGE catalog, I seriously won't look at it all.

I'll just download some songs that are the most popular, maybe some youtube browsing or if I buy a random cd from them, I did that with The Beatles.

 

I think I've listen to 60% of their work and that I love, and probably only have 20% in my iTunes.

 

Yet, I'm lazy with if they have 5 albums, unless I started to obsess about the band or musician.

I start with albums and then if I really like the album, I get most of the artists stuff.

I'd say I'm more of an artist person. Of course it depends on the artist but for te most part I will check out most of an artists material unless I don't get a good first impression

at the moment im working through the catalogs of The Doors and Cream so i guess i am more of an artist person but at the same time there are only a handful of artists in my library whose full album collection i have.

I'm definitely more of an artist person. I'm quite OCD when it comes to artist catalogues, not gonna lie. :dead:

Artist, I become obssesed with one then by as many of their albums as I can.

I'm more of an album person I think. Unless I absolutely love the stuff I'm hearing I probably won't look too far beyond the album I enjoyed. For a few artists I have everything they've ever done, but for most its just their most recent/popular album.
