July 30, 201015 yr meh, i think they are, but 5 albums in, they haven't really broken in as much as Coldplay for example, and Muse has been around much longer Muse are pretty big in America. Coldplay are barely more well known than Muse. The only songs any American knows by Coldplay is Viva la Vida and if you're very lucky, Yellow. Coldplay are just one-hit wonders. 1. Neon Bible 2. OK Computer 3. The Bends 4. Funeral 5. The Suburbs 6. Pablo Honey going to be lazy and quote Eddie, because that sums up what I was going to say.
July 30, 201015 yr Author I completely agree - the way Arcade Fire has made the Alternative music scene look with NEW bands, I would say they are the best one out there - but the are no Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Cure and Radiohead...all of those bands hold so much to their careers, with the songs, albums and followings they have created. I do feel that Interpol are an underrated group since 2000 that have made 3 amazing albums and continue to make amazing music. Another band that changes their sound is Editors, but yet again - the lack of attention in North America is frustrating since they cannot hit such a huge market. it's the same deal with Muse - they are the world's biggest rock band that America doesn't know about, i mean, people know about them...but they aren't as big as they could be. in regards to you including coldplay in there, i would have to disagree. they have fallen out of favour with the critics and alternative music scene since the disaster that was X&Y, even though they did save face with VLV i dont think they will carry the same legacy as radiohead. whereas arcade fire have been the darlings of both critics and alt music fans and i will be very surprised if they dont maintain that with this 3rd effort. but in regards to interpol + editors i think you're spot on and i would add to that list some of my personal favourite acts like arctic monkeys, yeah yeah yeahs, franz ferdinand and phoenix. if the current music scene wasnt so saturated with urban music (some of which i confess to loving) i think some of those bands would get the respect and recognition they deserve. and with muse. i think its much the same as coldplay. the critics hate them and the cool indie kids think they've sold out. something radiohead never faced and i hope arcade fire doesnt either even as they become one of the biggest acts in the world.
July 30, 201015 yr If Coldplay had kept going down the Parachutes (and maybe ROBTTH) road they might have been relevant here
July 30, 201015 yr To be honest if they hadn't evolved they would NOT be relevant here, it would just be one whiny rock-ish album after another. Arcade Fire could not get away with another Funeral or another Neon Bible, and Radiohead couldn't get away with a copy of one of their albums either. (Well they could, but they would get critical flak for it, and with good reason I think.)
July 30, 201015 yr Pablo Honey - The Bends - OK Computer were not huge changes. It was more as if they had just matured. And to me, Arcade Fire went from Funeral to Neon Bible and back to a not so good version of Funeral...
July 30, 201015 yr That's a good point I suppose. But Arcade Fire isn't gonna get away with a not as good version of Funeral, I predict bad reviews comin soon. idk really.
July 30, 201015 yr Author personally i think the critics are too in love with arcade fire to hammer this album. im not expecting funeral like reviews but i wouldnt be surprised if they enjoy it more than neon bible. here's the critic reaction so far BBC - better than ok computer Rolling Stone - 4 stars Spin - 4.5 stars NME - 9/10 Sputnikmusic - 3 stars Guardian - 4 stars Irish Independent - "contender for album of the year" ClashMusic - 9/10 The Phoenix - 2 stars - the American Express commercial gradually gives way to a Riverdance special on pay-per-view. musicOMH - 4.5stars Contact Music - 9/10 Consequence of Sound - 5 stars - Final verdict? It’s unbelievable.
July 30, 201015 yr I did like The Suburbs. It flowed very well and there were songs that really caught my attention to songs where I could just calmly listen to. Coldplay did I guess 'fall out' with X&Y, but I still do not understand why. There was far too much hype around that album, and people assumed it would sound similar to Parachutes and AROBTTH, which it didn't so they got slammed, but in no way to me was it a disaster, i loved and still love X&Y. Muse I just wish were huge - selling out stadiums in the US, I don't know why, just the genius of the group, they should be more prominent then rubbish like 3OH3!, like what is this nonsense that's become of the music industry? and Deaths_friend, Editors and Interpol are top notch in my group of favorite bands, and I wish people would know who they are, everyone knows Interpol for TOTBL but nothing else, and nobody really knows editors...too bad great talent goes un-noticed
July 30, 201015 yr God why the hell are you comparing and mentioning Muse and Coldplay if they're bad and nothing like AF and RH anyway? :/

It’s unbelievable. The reviews that really count are Mojo and Uncut  Looking forward to see what they say.
July 30, 201015 yr God why the hell are you comparing and mentioning Muse and Coldplay if they're bad and nothing like AF and RH anyway? :/ I wouldn't call them bad. I am talking about the industry and comparing acts and how certain bands gain success, read what I wrote. It is a comparison - I am not talking about the music, because it's completely different. No point in causing an argument.

Ah yeah, but always CP or Muse, I mean wtf, there are other, better, and bigger bands out there to use instead of the most annoying ones. You completely deflected the point here, it's just a thing about RH and AF.

July 30, 201015 yr God why the hell are you comparing and mentioning Muse and Coldplay if they're bad and nothing like AF and RH anyway? :/ Muse would annoy me slightly less if the fans weren't always comparing them to Radiohead It annoys the fuck out of me

I did use Editors and Interpol...but you have to rip on me, congrats. in regards to Radiohead over Arcade Fire, as I said, it is too hard to compare considering what Radiohead has done and how they have evolved. wanna go back on topic? or criticize some more?
July 30, 201015 yr I could go on criticizing you but you've made it clear that you're annoyed by my posts cos you know I'm right. Muse isn't genius, they just distort classical compositions and other songs and that's it. Arcade Fire actually came up with something, so don't compare both cos Muse will never be as good.

In no way am I annoyed at your posts, i just said something - ie. my opinion and you stated yours, we had a disagreement and there we have it. Not everyone is going to agree with who is better and who is worse, everyone has their own point of view. We all have opinions and everyone will disagree with someone else sooner or later. I don't care what they do, I like the music, and you have your preferences. I don't want to start something stupid over opinions because it isn't worth it. You can't say your right - and I have not even said I am right and you are wrong. Now, enough of this...but it got the blood boiling and I like that! :wink3: if we are comparing Arcade Fire and Radiohead - where do you think AF will go next? do you think they will get into that funk that Radiohead did around the Kid A era?
July 31, 201015 yr Muse hatred is funny. I don't love them, but I think they are pretty good and amazing live. I certainly don't hate them.

July 31, 201015 yr this thread is weird, because the new album hasn't come out yet technically there is a chance they may release something that isn't the leak. this has been done before but it is rare pablo honey isn't an album the bends is all about the singles ok computer is better than the first two albums by arcade fire even if the arcade fire album is what the leak is it is far too early to judge and compare you need 6 months minimum to fully grasp an album
