October 14, 201015 yr Would you take your spouses last name after marriage, and what are your thoughts about this practice? Personally I would keep my last name and if I have kids I would hyphenate their name. I think that the practice of a women taking her husbands last name is very medieval, and it's a tradition I don't want to follow. anyway, watch this horrible video and vote in the poll :) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bG1-hOYJPDM]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bG1-hOYJPDM[/ame]
October 14, 201015 yr yes I would  Unless my husband had a really crappy last name, then I would consider not doing it but probably still would
October 14, 201015 yr I think I'd go the traditional way and take my husband's name. Eventhough it would probably hurt my Dad since he is the only one of his sibblings who has children.....3 daughters and if none of us keeps our last name then our name will die out....I mean in this family....:bigcry: if just my last name wasn't that boring I would think about it twice...haha
October 14, 201015 yr spanish don't have that problem, since we have 2 surnames, and wife keeps her surname, just traditionally used to get refered as 'husband surname's wife.
October 14, 201015 yr I do not know exactly in my country, the women can keep the name of the father and husband name . my sister Louisa have did keep both. and I do not know I'm not married yet. and I do not even know if I marry one day, then .
October 14, 201015 yr I didn't know whether to vote for 'Other' or 'No- we would both keep our names' because preferably I don't want to get married, of course I want a life partner but don't necessarily want legalities to affect our relationship. If my partner needed to get married I would, because I don't really care either way, and in that situation I wouldn't care if she took my name or whatever so it would be up to them. 'Other'.
October 14, 201015 yr yes I would  Unless my husband had a really crappy last name, then I would consider not doing it but probably still would :thinking:Yip. I did that 3 years ago as of yesterday. I like my maiden name much better, but I decided to go the traditional route.
October 14, 201015 yr no, no one does that here:sick: For real?!? I wish it were like that here, no pressure to change it.
October 14, 201015 yr  For real?!? I wish it were like that here, no pressure to change it. yes, when you get married nothing changes really:P the kids get both of their parents' last names, the father's last name goes first
October 14, 201015 yr I love signing my last name so... :uhoh: I think I would probably take it though.
October 14, 201015 yr yes, when you get married nothing changes really:P the kids get both of their parents' last names, the father's last name goes first Okay, so say your father's last name is Smith, and your mother's last name is Doe. So your last name is Smith Doe. So then what if you get married to a guy whose last name is Yellow. Would your kid have a last name of Yellow Smith Doe, or Yellow Smith? Or something else?
October 14, 201015 yr Yellow Smith :P I think someone was talking about making a law so every family can decide which last name will go first
October 14, 201015 yr With divorce rates the way they are, changing names would appear to be a pointless exercise, as people only end up having to change them back again anyway.:dozey:
October 14, 201015 yr I Don't really mind changing my last name but as you say if it's terrible I Don't wanna change
October 14, 201015 yr I would change my name, I don't have any problem with that really. Me too. Especially since I hate my last name, and hyphenating the name for my children would be so annoying.
October 14, 201015 yr Author I find it interesting that the men on this thread don't care about name change, but a lot of the women want to change their names.
October 14, 201015 yr How unfortunate would it have been if Chris Rea had married someone named Di or Donna?
October 14, 201015 yr It depends. If my husband's family name is Dick, no way. But if it's Martin or Vanwyngarden, I take it.:awesome:
October 14, 201015 yr With divorce rates the way they are, changing names would appear to be a pointless exercise, as people only end up having to change them back again anyway.:dozey: Yeah we're all fucked fuck everything :dozey:
