Would you change your last name after marriage?

Featured Replies

One thing I don't get is why some men are so keen on keeping the family name alive, even if it sucks ... I mean, I'm so damn happy that my father didn't insist that my mother takes his last name. It's awful, awful, awful and deserves to die out ... and yet one of his brothers desperately wanted to keep it (the other one didn't, so that makes 2 out of 3 brothers who got rid of that name once they were married).

Depends if his last name is ugly or not.

I wanna hyphenate it, but mine is too long.

I already had a hyphenated name. My mother kept her maiden name ( because she is was the only child and wanted to carry on the family name ) and so my parents have different last names. However my brother and I have the same hyphenated surname. So with all that. Um I really like my name so yeah, I would just keep mine. Doesnt matter anyways, I'm not looking to marry.

How old was your ex? Aren't you a little young to be talking of marriage?

At least there are men who think that way. :P

Wait. If Greg's an old prickly bastard - then what does that make me?

:laugh3: hilarious !!

if i ever get married i wouldn't have a choice, i have to take my husband's last name, i'm Catholic maronite and women are not allowed to keep their name and i would be in the same situation if i got married to a muslim seeing that we don't even have the right to a civil marriage here yet:(

So you'd be Christina Utley?

that's really sad, I think it's perfectly fine for someone to take their spouses name after marriage, but it shouldn't be forced on them. People should have choices, they should be able to do what they want. And I was just wondering, if you had a choice would you want to take your spouses name?
