I grew up listening to Nas and Wu-Tang Clan[/color] who had way more hardcore songs than 99 Problems. His music is far less "hood" than it used to be.

My kids are 18 and 15, and they have been listening to every catagory of music since they were toddlers. Eminem was high on their list years ago, and then GreenDay, their music had tons of cursing in them, I never told them they couldn't listen to the unrated ones, because I said, Music is like Art, and it was part of the story of the songs, and they are just words. I made sure tho, they understood, the difference of singing those words in the song and using that language in public for everyday use. I am not a bad parent for exposing my kids growing up to this type of music, hell they liked the beat, they didn't know it was cussing until they hit middle school.

As much as I agree with you about the parental advisory, I have to disagree. Someone else mentioned that children don't really get the messages in music, whether it be sex or violence like you mentioned. At that age, they like songs because of the feel of them or a catchy beat, and rarely understand what the song is actually about.

 

That being said, I still wouldn't let my child listen to Jay-Z that young. :|
