Muse or Coldplay, who's better live?

Featured Replies

interesting difference of opinions between both threads, the fangirl factor is big here

And for those who haven't seen muse/are not interested: you can't judge what you haven't seen. They are not cold or anything like that.

the two of them need to learn from each other

Coldplay needs to stop hiring all these middle men to blog us saying pretty much nothing and interact with us themselves.... hey ...if Muse' Chris can organize football games with fans then Jonny can tweet .....something.

anything.

Definitely. I love how Muse guys are always uploading pics or Chris is always organizing football games. Coldplay's crew is closer to the fans too but not the band itself

yeah, I have to agree - Muse must be better musically (though I haven't seen them live, but it shows) and adrenaline - pumping , while Coldplay go emotionally deeper so to say. :)

This.

Yesterday I stated something like "Muse are atleast as good as Coldplay on stage, if not better" but now I realise how weird all such comparisons are... both Muse and Coldplay are special in their own way. Coldplay ain't no guitar masters, but they are more... communicative? I can't find the right expression, but you know what I mean...

chris has even started replying to fans on twitter

and it's true wht Gena said they should learn abt fan interaction from eachother

oh and they really are different

an example

Unintended >>> The Scientist :wacky: but probably because The Scientist was overplayed here, when that happens I start to skip some songs I used to love like Lovers in japan, viva la vida, etc.

The Scientist is on tv everytime they want to show something sad it's annoying :bomb:

i just love both those songs and they really do represent the way both bands write abt the same feelings differently

and fix you i started hating coz its overplayed here

i think that's the only coldplay song Pakistani MTV plays:rolleyes:

oh Fix You, I forgot about that song, same here, it's annoying :bomb:

"Unintended" is one brilliant piece from their first album. :nice:

Never seen Muse. I agree they might be better musicians but it doesn't make it all for me. Mistakes and interaction with the crowd is what make (IMO) a show 'alive' and fun. I prefer seeing a jumping/talking/imperfect Chris than a technically perfect but 'cold' Muse....

This... Thank you.

I don't really listen to MUSE  I mean maybe they put on a good show - but if I went to one of their shows I wouldn't know any songs or get that whoosh of emotions you get when your favourite song is playing.

Soo... I voted Coldplay. Because the experience for me would be better at one of their concerts.

Ah, but you see you're a huge Coldplay fan. . . for me I nearly had a heart attack when Muse started playing Citizen Erased, and I was crying when they were playing New Born. I'm also a big Coldplay fan, so I'll have to wait and see which band I like better live when Coldplay go touring again! :P

Like I posted in the other thread, Muse interact with the crowd differently, but they do interact nonetheless. :P And I'd rather have an in-tune and guitar crazy Matt Bellamy than a joking and running around and out of breath Chris Martin.

And Muse is not cold at all. They put there whole being into making the show perfect. They concentrate on the music more, and therefore don't stop and have a discussion/jokes as often. If you watch some interviews as well, they're as easy going and joking as Coldplay (even more, if you take into account the fact that Matt kids around with the paps and takes pics of them taking pics of him, while Chris beats them up- not that I can blame him either.) Although I think you were talking more about stage presence. :P

Also, take into account that they are a 3-man band. Matt can't physically go into a huge guitar solo and dance around the stage while singing at the same time. He does the job of Jonny and Chris (Martin, not Wolstenholme).

Although if you've ever seen HAARP by Muse, you'll see that Matt certainly doesn't just stand there. He goes crazy with his music. He spins around runs around the stage, and even dances when he goes into some of his solos.

That made me lol when I saw the poll. . . fangirls voting without actually knowing what Muse look like live. :P

I know. :bomb:

And if you compare VLV to Exogenesis Symphony there's no comparison. :P

Viva's overplayed, but The Scientist is one of the best songs written in the past 20 years without doubt. It is beautiful.

And as for See You Soon. Well show me a Muse song that compares!

I just said the scientist is overplayed, doesn't mean it's bad.

i love all the songs u have posted christina

Not sure Falling Away With You is really comparable to See You Soon, given how it turns into an energetic rocker in the chorus. As for the other three, I'd say Redemption and Unintended are closer to SYS, but Blackout is the best of them all and is one of Muse's most under-appreciated songs, so if I prefer any of those songs over SYS, it's Blackout.

Soldier's Poem is also comparable, though I don't think it's quite as good as those others.

And I just glanced over at the WoM poll results for comparison. Basically a flip of this one...

Edit: ^ God that performance is always gorgeous. Wish it made it onto HAARP's CD instead of just the DVD.

Ok, I think this is a really tough question. These are my two favorite bands and I love them a lot, I've seen Coldplay 3 times and Muse twice. I was front row for both Muse shows.

Both concerts are absolutely incredible, but their music is so different and the experience from each concert is different. It really depends on what you want and on what you like.

I nearly had a heart attack when Muse started playing Citizen Erased

OMG I KNOW

I still can't believe I've seen it live :freak:

Oh yeah, how did I miss that? :bigcry:

The acrobat just added so much to that. :wacky:

Oh yeah, that's true. I just love FAWY though. :wacky:

Blackout is so unbelievably unappreciated, along with Endlessly. :shifty: They're so epic.

As much as I love Soldier's Poem, I don't think it's quite as good as Blackout

Yeah, and Sing For Absolution would have been nice on the CD or DVD. :|

:freak: I feel so special! And my first concert too. :freak:

Some Muse luck must have gone with us. :wacky:

it seems we definitely saw a different gig because I saw it on tv and it was amazing

What?

Do explain! Because like Lore said, it was amazing from where I saw it.

I've seen Coldplay twice live and Muse once.

I think I enjoy listening to Muse a little bit more than Coldplay. They are very different from one another though...

Muse wins performance-wise. Matt Bellamy rarely makes mistakes and hits his high notes all the time. Chris makes many mistakes and doesn't sing very well sometimes. Probably because he is bouncing around the stage.

But I do like how Chris will talk to the crowd and go into the crowd and do silly things.

Chris is a much better entertainer. Matt never does any of these things.

I do think that Muse is better live but that may be because I enjoy Muse a little more than Coldplay atm..
