I've been a casual Muse fan for a while and love their music - but I don't follow them like I follow (obsess over?) Coldplay. I've seen Coldplay 6 times and saw Muse for the first time in September here in California.

I was completely and totally blown away by Muse. I had no idea. It was one of the coolest things and best concerts I've ever seen (and yes, I'm old and I can say that!)

Like others have said, Coldplay touches me emotionally in concert. I love Chris's ad-libs and "fuck-ups" and interactions with the crowd. Love the Jonny-love that goes on. I think Jonny is an amazing guitar player, but Matt Bellamy is on the list of the top 50 guitarists of all time. I could spend an entire concert just watching Will play.

But the "technical-ness" of Muse was outstanding. Their show was amazing, the staging, the lights, everything...But Coldplay's staging with the B and C stages, and the butterflies is innovative, too.

So to me, it's hard to compare because they both do great fan-pleasing shows.

great

I've seen Coldplay twice live and Muse once.

I think I enjoy listening to Muse a little bit more than Coldplay. They are very different from one another though...

Muse wins performance-wise. Matt Bellamy rarely makes mistakes and hits his high notes all the time. Chris makes many mistakes and doesn't sing very well sometimes. Probably because he is bouncing around the stage.

But I do like how Chris will talk to the crowd and go into the crowd and do silly things.

Chris is a much better entertainer. Matt never does any of these things.

I do think that Muse is better live but that may be because I enjoy Muse a little more than Coldplay atm..

I DUNNO

Good points!

I'm sure that when Coldplay starts touring again, and I have tickets, I'm going to lean a bit more towards Coldplay as well. . .

Thanks for rubbing it in.

:P

I was sharing the love - not rubbing it in. :P

What?

Do explain! Because like Lore said, it was amazing from where I saw it.

apologies for the delay in replying-been out all day

i was a bit too brief re muse-granted they are technically excellent and put on a spectacular show, but for me)& this is where it is personal and everyone has different tastes)..it is all just a show and too calculating-no real passion or humour

compared to coldplay

for me as well,I am very dubious about any band who parades sci-fi too seriously-it all seems a bit adolescent at best and veers too close to the likes of rush/yes etc

however..each to their own..I am sure not many muse fans appreciate the fall or blind willie mctell!...so good luck to them-I just don't get muse thats all

Oh. . .

I personally think they put a lot of passion into their music, you can see that when Matt does some crazy solo. . . you just have to be looking out for it. :P

They don't kid around like Chris does, but they do care about the audience having a great time as much as Coldplay does.

I can see why you don't like all the 1984 stuff, I know a lot of people weren't fans of the fact that nearly their whole album was based on the book.

cheers..see what you mean-we'll just have to agree to disagree!

Muse who ? :whip:

Damn , just realised that Muse Youtube channel has horrible quality videos  they could at least try to upload them in good quality :D

^^ I went to the football game with Chris :D

I'm going to have to go with Muse, I don't really listen to them any more but I've seen them 8 times and they're just amazing.

As I said, the point of this thread was having it at the coldplay section and compare the results between this one and a WoM thread poll. what's the point of moving it? Kill it?

Okay... This is a hard one. But I guess I have more ground for comparison because I saw both Coldplay and Muse at the same venue (Wembley) and was pretty much in the same place for both...

Both are brilliant, but for different reasons.

Muse are technically perfect. You cannot fault anything they play because it is exactly the same as the album. Their improv riffing is awesome and inspired-- and because they do that the energy stays throughout the entire gig.

Coldplay aren't as perfect. Chris quite often 'fucks up' but I find that really endearing and it makes them quite human. Also Coldplay don't do improv jamming, but then again their music style doesn't tend to lend itself to it. So the energy of the crowd can lurch violently.

Muse do a stage show. Like a proper stage show. The lights and video effects are fantastic. They also had a moving/revolving stage which is just inspired. On the flipside Coldplay have the better showmanship with the crowd thing-- like their Butterflies and Balloons pretty much outdo Muse's (quite boring in comparison) eyeball balloons and streamers. But they don't quite have the same video and light effects power.

Chris (Martin) is better at crowd interaction than Matt. As already said it's probably because Matt is painfully shy so he leaves Dom and Chris to do it-- and they 'dabble' with crowd. Chris (Martin) does the interaction really well, like telling impromptu stories, inspiring sing-a-longs and obviously their B/C-staging.

So really, both bands have their pros and cons. If you blended them together then you'd get the ultimate experience... But seen as you can't, you get very different experiences from both.

And in my mind, they're tied for my best concert evah (and that's saying something considering the volume I've been to) because although they provide different things... They both deliver an unforgettable experience.

Perfectly said - I couldn't agree more. I don't see why we need to compare the two bands live anyway, since they're both awesome but so different. There are strengths and weaknesses to both bands' live performances, and I honestly couldn't choose between them on a live performance-level, even though Coldplay is my #1 favourite band and Muse is a very close second.

And really, though I understand the point of this poll is to compare results in the WoM forum vs. the Coldplay forum, but at the end of the day, a Coldplay vs. Muse poll at the Coldplaying forum is going to show some bias, I'm guessing. ;)
