Celebration of Coldplay

Hey GUYS - i'm new to blogging and forums and things, a friend of mine plays in a band who pay homage to Coldplay in celebration to their success and said I would help spread the word as they're quite new on the scene.

They are called COLDPLAYER and they are performing at The Stanley Theatre (Guild Of Students) on 11th February in Liverpool, they are massive fans of Coldplay themselves and want to do the band justice by giving people a close as it gets vibe in terms of performance and sound.

Tribute bands get badpress - but there are tributes out there that do a fantastic job of celebrating the success of such amazing bands such as Coldplay - and isn't one of the signs of success that a band have a tribute act to them?

Anyway - I really wanna help these guys cause I love Coldplay and when my friend told me they were gonna do it I was like, man you've got alot to pull off there!! Anyone can just play Coldplay songs - but to imitate them is gonna be a tough one - but you know what, they changed my opinion on Tribute acts and I know that there will be negative criticism out there - as there is with everything.

But they do a great job - well don't take my word for it, if your in Liverpool on the 11th go along and see the show - see for yourself.

Maybe it's really Lady Paltrow in disguise

Could you even imagine Chris' face if it was actually her?!

I don't think that would go over too well! :laugh3:

What if this Locust7 person is right for like, the fifth time?

If they're right, and LP5 is named "La Mancha" and it comes out it May, I may be a bit frightened.

I honestly don't think it will be called "La Mancha". But... who knows? :dozey:

Edit: I read through all of their posts, and they were only right about 50% of the time.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

La Mancha sounds like obvious follower after VLV. It's highly unlikely. But could happen. And, well, only sound and lyrics has a matter. ;)

Where did he say it was going to be called La Mancha? I don't know if I'd believe that if that came straight from Will's mouth or something

The locust dude suggested it awhile back

LOLZ, missed that one. Yeah, I just don't believe that for a second. But I have noticed that his suggestions have usually been crap, but when he says he KNOWS something, he seems to often be right...anyway, whatever, I don't know why I want to believe him :P

Because you don't want to hope too much

and then get let down :disappointed:

:wacky: But I want to believe!!

Regardless, given all of these festivals, it will either be immediately before or immediately after the summer ones. So... May or August. I'm betting August for LP5, and the festivals will serve as the promotion for it.

If you had asked me a few weeks ago, I would have guessed that we would have to wait until late 2011. But with all these festival dates being announced and such, I would guess June. :)

All these festivals get me more and more impatient!

2012 :escaping:

I see more the festivals as 'testing plateform' for the new tracks. I don't know why but I think the final tracklisting will be made after the festivals since they'll have seen what would have worked and don't.

So my guess is september :)

I've been thinking about the idea of using the festivals as a testing platform too, and I think that's entirely possible. But at the same time, they seem to have been fairly worried about the powers of the internet and downloading in recent years (as they should be), which makes me think that they (or maybe even EMI?) could have some reservations about playing more than just one or two new things live before any official releases for the sake of money. Obviously a live song that makes it to YouTube or something before it officially comes out is not the same as an official leak, but at the same time, it could work against them in a worst-case scenario: if the material doesn't go over that well and a lot of people see it via YouTube etc, it could mean lower album sales. Some people may be attracted by free live previews of tracks, but some people could also be just as uninterested or turned off by the same thing, and this is Coldplay, mega-stars and cash cow, not just any band. That's a really paranoid way of looking at it, but since EMI are hurting these days, they might be thinking like that . Just an idea, probably not a realistic one.

I still think May/June :D

I see your point but look at what Kings of Leon did last summer! They played (against their label advice) a lot of songs from their forcoming album during shows in the summer. The album came out in the following october and hit number 1, despite all the live leaked flowing on youtube...

I find it very clever cause people know the songs a little before buying the album and are even more eager to purchase it to listen to the studio version (at least, it worked like that on me :P )

anywyay, we'll see!!

late May[/i:

This. :wacky:

God, I'm excited for LP5! :wacky:

That's actually a very good example...hmmm. I guess I'm just trying to think of EMI's perspective, but I suppose if there's nothing about such things in their contract, they can only advise them against playing new stuff. Kings of Leon, though, while big and popular, aren't Coldplay, and their record companies aren't sinking down the tubes as fast as EMI...

I think it's clever too as long as the music's good and gets good press and doesn't alienate new and casual listeners for any reason. Because it's Coldplay, one of the top maybe 3 most popular acts in the world right now, the risk of the material not coming off well is probably small.

Did they ever do something like this before? Announcing 9 festivals gigs just for testing material? Or any other band? Jeez Christ. :o

A lot of artists are testing new songs on stage...Coldplay did it before AROBTH. As for a proper testing songs tour, there is a french singer that did it and it was ace! After the show, we were asked to go to his website and make comments on the songs, what we like/don't like and why. A few months later, he came back with the album :D

May 23 would be a good day. There is a doomsday religous groop that predicts that the woule will end on May 22. All of us survivors need something good to listen to.

A lot of artists are releasing new material during tours, but it doesn't mean they are "testing" it. And you should see things in the whole perspective. Guys has been recording new album over 2 years, they have already played (tested) at least 2 new songs.

And why the hell they would announced 9 gigs after 2 years of recording just for testing? It doesn't make any sense at all.

During release of a new album they have to do shitload of promotional stuff like interviews, radio, video appearances, free gigs, hidden gigs, family gigs, bbc gigs. There are no time for testing. A couple of month prior to release all studio masters must be done and went to factory. The schedule for gigs so tight it could mean only new tour.

and with the schedule that tight and That last week of June a big slot that lays open...... Im hoping for Glastonbury as well.
