This was mine :curtain:

Thanks for the review Lore :nice:

Sorry you didn't like some of it :P And yeah, there's a lot of female singers on this, which is weird because a year and a half ago I didn't really like female singers at all. :uhoh:

^^ *high-five* :cheesy:

I actually had T instead for a long time, and then I changed it to Mirrorage recently because it fit there better I think.

Once links are posted, I'll take a listen to yours and judge for myself.

1. Good opening track. I haven't heard it before but I'm sure it's The Go Team! It's really upbeat and weird, but I like it.

2. Piano. Female singer that sounds very much like Lady Gaga. It's a pop song and it's enjoyable enough.

3. Begins with some guitar strumming, then some drums and then a singer, (that sounds very masculine female). The chorus comes in and it sounds familiar. Good song though.

4. Starts with a singer and a beat that reminds me of White Lies. Not my favourite sort of song but it's growing on me. Doesn't really climax.

5. My first impression is that its a cross between an emo band and paramore. Punk pop style. In saying that, it's catchy. The guitar hook is likeable and the chorus is stuck in my head.

6. Folky, guitar strumming and the male voice is lovely. Like one of the soft rock songs that you get. Country tinge. I like the chord progression most of all. My favourite so far.

7. I don't like the voice at all. Once you get past that though, its actually a nice song.

8. Opens with some really cool computerised base sound. Then the singing starts, and I realised its a cover of 'I heard it through the grapevine'. Sounds like Florence singing but I could be wrong. The quality of the mp3 is pretty poor though, so it sounds distorted in parts. It's a good cover regardless however.

9. Captain by Biffy Clyro. I got to hear this when they were supporting Muse and this song is still great.

10. Reminds me of Brandon Flowers, the way he sings. It's not though. I don't really like it, not really my kind of song. Sorry.

11. Some awesome guitar bit at the start. Not a huge fan of the voice but its an alright song.

12. Female harmonising… in a different language. For that reason it doesn't grab me really. sorry.

13. Intro - the xx. I recently bought this EP on vinyl. Its is truly an eargasm.

14. Cool piano through the song. Religious overtones. Okay song. Nice build up.

15. Last track. Funny kind of song. Nice way to end the tape.

Overall, the tape flowed very well and was cohesive. I suspect it was made by a female. Interested to see what the tracklisting is. Thanks heaps for the tape.

Oh, I did forget to post the link.

Here you go

just finished listening to my mix. Here's my review

Track 1: This song starts off as very ambient and slow moving. The atmospheric sounds sound really great so far, very dark. Then guitars come in more and more and the song slowly picks up. The drums then kick in and the whole mood of the song feels different. The song is a nice way to open this mix up. I'm surprised that no vocals have entered the song yet, but I think it works well with the mood of the song. I picture almost crashing waves or a boat caught in a violent storm something intense happening.

Track 2: Opens with some electronic noises, of blips. The song then automatically changes into synths with a drum beat. The song itself is catchy. The vocals then come in. They sound good, and work well. I think it's a male vocalist, though it's slightly hard to tell. The song itself is very catchy. It then breaks into I guess a chorus that is really catchy and the melody is great! This song makes me want to move around but not in a crazy dance way, but just moving your head back and forth. I really like this song a lot. This song is one of the highlights.

Track 3: The song starts off with some drums and then dark sounding vocals with a good bass. The song then moves more and makes you want to move around with the drums and catchy melody. Then comes in this fuzz guitar sound that sounds really good. The song is very catchy, and to me seems like the kind of song I could imagine listening to while driving in the car.

Track 4: The song opens with an organ. The drums come in with the vocals. Not extremely impressed initially. Sounds a lot like a song from the 80's to get a crowd pumped up for a show or something. The chorus is kind of catchy, but I'm not a huge fan of the song, though once again there's this sort of synth bass that I really like. As the song progress I sort of find the backing vocals to be really annoying.

Track 5: The track opens with some electronic drums. Then it's weird because it turns into a song that has acoustic guitar and bass. The bass sounds really good. Then there's some french singing! I'm interested to know who this is. The song itself feels kind of nostalgic, and I don't know if it's the melody of the song or the french singing which sort of reminds me of traveling to Montreal. I really like this song a lot. I think the arrangement is really nice. The piano sounds really great. I'm really interested to know who this is. This one is definitely one of the highlights of the mix so far.

Track 6: The song opens with some really beautiful sounding acoustic guitar playing. Then comes in the drums with vocals. The vocals sound familular. I think it is Damien Rice, though I could be wrong. I really like the vocals in this song and the backing vocals sound really great too. The song itself seems kind of sad, but also uplifting too, especially when the song picks up a little bit. the arrangement of the song is really great, and the strings really get me. It works well with the rest of the song.

Track 7: The song opens with drums, bass and electric piano. From the previous song this is a nice change of pace to have something more upbeat. The vocals come in, but I'm not sure what I think of this one. I do like how I guess during the chorus, there's a single guitar strum. This song with the vocals reminds me a lot of Hey Rosetta! even though I know it isn't them. The drums are good in this song.

Track 8: The song immediately sounds like it's from the 80's with the drums, bass and guitar. Initially I thought it might be U2. Then the vocals come in and it'definitely isn't them. Not really sure that I like this song much. To me as the song progresses it sort of sounds like it might be a metal song, though it isn't. It's the vocals that make it that way I think. The middle part sounds good with the piano and guitar. I sort of wish the song continued on in that direction.

Track 9: The song opens with a rolling kind of electronic sound. It reminds me of daft punk. Then the instruments come in. The song sounds like a great late night song. I like the airyness of the song. The vocals are okay. The song feels like it could be from the 80's, though it seems more recent. I do like the song though. The overall arrangement and mood of it is nice. As the song continues it really grows on me. I really like it. Definitely one of the highlights.

Track 10: The song opens with a backwards sounding instrument. And then comes in with vocals with piano. I really like the closeness of the vocals and also the piano too. The song is really nice sounding so far! It seems like a really nice sounding song not only with the delicate vocals but piano too. The whole mood of the song is really great. I love this song. It is definitely one of my favorites on the mix.

Track 11: the song opens with some bass, and synths that coming in shortly after, but they may actually be guitars. The song then opens up with drums and vocals. I like the song. At first impression I didn't like the direction the song was heading or where I imagined it heading. I thought the drums were going to be really faster, but the drums work very nicely in this song. The vocals are really good too, and work really great with the song. I really like the song, it's very catchy. Another highlight of the mix.

Track 12: The song opens up with acoustic guitar, harmonica and tambourine. The song immediately seems like it'll be a great sing along song. The vocals come in and wow… the harmonies are great! They sound so good! Once again this is another nostalgic sounding song. I can imagine it being set to the end of a show season, or some happy end scene of a movie. I really like this song a lot. I know that there's one track after this, but at least at this point, to me this song sounds like it'd be a perfect way to end a mix. The song is very uplifting.

Track 13: Well it's the last song of the mix. The song starts up with some catchy drums, and acoustic guitar. The vocals come in and are okay. It seems like it could be a reggae kind of song. I do like the subtlties of the percussion in the background. When the chorus comes in it definitely seems very reggae-ish. It's very catchy and a happy song. This is definitely a nice choice to end a mix.

Overall I really enjoyed the mix. There were a few songs I wasn't crazy about, but nothing that I hated. There were some really great songs on this mix though . I also liked how I didn't recognize any artists (well except maybe damien rice). I'm really excited and curious to see who made my mix and what the tracklisting is.

Highlights: 2, 5, 9-13

Hey Mike! I'm your mixtape maker tee-hee :D

just finished listening to my mix. Here's my review

Track 1: This song starts off as very ambient and slow moving. The atmospheric sounds sound really great so far, very dark. Then guitars come in more and more and the song slowly picks up. I'm happy you like it! I thought it was a great opener and that you'd enjoy it too :) the band is God Is An Astronaut and they have very good instrumentals. Very catchy.

Track 2: Opens with some electronic noises, of blips. The song then automatically changes into synths with a drum beat. The song itself is catchy. The vocals then come in. They sound good, and work well. I think it's a male vocalist, though it's slightly hard to tell. The song itself is very catchy. I really like this song a lot. This song is one of the highlights.

oooooh I'm so happy you like it. I wasn'T too sure you would. It's a guy who sings, his artist name is Absofacto.

Track 3: The song starts off with some drums and then dark sounding vocals with a good bass. The song then moves more and makes you want to move around with the drums and catchy melody. Then comes in this fuzz guitar sound that sounds really good. The song is very catchy, and to me seems like the kind of song I could imagine listening to while driving in the car.

all I have to say is

Track 4: The song opens with an organ. The drums come in with the vocals. Not extremely impressed initially. Sounds a lot like a song from the 80's to get a crowd pumped up for a show or something. The chorus is kind of catchy, but I'm not a huge fan of the song, though once again there's this sort of synth bass that I really like. As the song progress I sort of find the backing vocals to be really annoying.

aww :( ah well. my mixtape couldn't be perfect haha. it's The Temper Trap.

Yes! Victory! haha This artist is Dumas and although I generally dislike music in French, the Quebecker artist is seriously one of my favourites. I actually hesitated between that song and a few other ones. I could definitely help you discover more of his stuff if you want to. Oh and yes, the lyrics are actually very nostalgic. The title itself, 'j'erre', means 'I wander'.

It works well with the rest of the song.

right on! :) I love the break where the both of them (Damien and Lisa Hannigan) sing. used to make me cry everytime.

I took a wild guess with this song too and I'm happy to see you didn't dislike it! The band is Okkervil River.

The Courteeners. It's actually the only song by that band that I listen to regularly but that's only because I was too lazy to make an effort to look further. I like their overall sound too though.

Oh my, I am soooo happy it's one of your highlights. Like Treasure by Editors is one of my all time favourite songs. The atmosphere gets me every time.

Yay! I recently discovered A Fine Frenzy and thought I'd include something more feminine in there hehe

Another highlight of the mix.

the artist is Devendra Banhart, same one as in the third song :) I thought you'd like this one too and I couldn't choose between the two so I put them both there hehe.

I was actually hesitating between this song and the 13th track as for the outro. And I actually was sort of surprised this band wasn't in your last.fm library yet (you gotta thank Briggins for sending me the link to it). This band is The Rumour Said Fire and I am convinced you'd like the rest of their stuff.

Hehehe the guy's name is Bedouin Soundclash, and yes, he is a reggea artist :)

I am sincerly happy you liked it. I was a little nervous because your taste in music covers a wide range and I had to stalk your last.fm carefully in order to use the right songs hehe :) It was a pleasure to make your mixtape.

You also made me very nervous haha. You visited my last.fm page like half an hour after you posted here that you were listening to your mixtape, haha. I am pretty much convinced you guessed who your partner was haha.

O HAI, ANDY. I made your tape.

:O I was wondering whether I'd get you!! :D

Well, definitely some new bands for me to check out... some I've been meaning to check out, actually :D

Thanks again for the great mixtape! :wacky:

I can tell I'm not awake yet. Just started reading some of the reviews trying to work out if they were reviewing my mixtape or not. Forgot I obviously know who mine is.

I listened to about twenty minutes of mine as I went to sleep last night and will listen to the rest this evening. Very playful!

Anyways, off to work.

Both pretty good instrumentals.

Yeah on a side note, track 01 from your extras I dislike very much. I'm disappointed.

I won't say much so I don't spoil the surprise.

I'm glad you listened to both. Thankyou.

I guess I'll be a little more expressive about it when the exchange is over. What if your mickstaep partner notices it's you?

Anyway, I prefer that one over the one you sent to me, which was good, but this one is a lot better.

What if your mickstaep partner notices it's you?

Eddie was my partner and he already reviewed my tape.

Anyway, I prefer that one over the one you sent to me, which was good, but this one is a lot better.

Glad to hear it.

From first over listening I'm very much liking my mixtape. I will listen a bit closer on my way home (3 hour train journey, wooo ) and I will post a review when I get back.

Eddie was my partner and he already reviewed my tape.

Glad to hear it.

LOL, I didn't know tbh, I don't actually come and read the thread.

Yeah well like I said, You and Inchworm are pretty amazing instrumentals, and You works great as an opening track.

A nice surprise for me was track 7, and since I'm a sucker for dance I kept it.

Los Campesinos song disappointed me, big time. I think it's lacking of several elements I can't mention right now cos I can't put my finger on them.

But yeah, good one, solid.

Hi there!

1. Good opening track. I haven't heard it before but I'm sure it's The Go Team! It's really upbeat and weird, but I like it.

By Go Team, I think you mean Gorillaz?! It's them as you guessed. A song that reminds me of summer time a waaay while back, it's one of their 'old' song. I totally forgot about it until I heard it in a TV show a few weeks ago! So I thought it would be nice to dig it up to put it in the mix! I thought it would be a nice upbeat opener... It's spring afterall!

2. Piano. Female singer that sounds very much like Lady Gaga. It's a pop song and it's enjoyable enough.

It's Adele. I never NEVER would have compare her to Lady Gaga... (not really the same style). It's from her new album 21.

3. Begins with some guitar strumming, then some drums and then a singer, (that sounds very masculine female). The chorus comes in and it sounds familiar. Good song though.

It's Cold war kids. I love them and it's a song from their new album.

4. Starts with a singer and a beat that reminds me of White Lies. Not my favourite sort of song but it's growing on me. Doesn't really climax.

British band Chapel Club :) Reminds me of both White Lies and Joy Division. This song is part mash-up with the old song 'dream a little dream of me' (see the chorus).

5. My first impression is that its a cross between an emo band and paramore. Punk pop style. In saying that, it's catchy. The guitar hook is likeable and the chorus is stuck in my head.

It is catchy right?! Not the kind of music I'm after but I discover this one thanx to Gary Lightbody's blog about nothern irish new talents and I liked it!

6. Folky, guitar strumming and the male voice is lovely. Like one of the soft rock songs that you get. Country tinge. I like the chord progression most of all. My favourite so far.

Again, a discovery thx to Mr Lightbody, this a new american folky band called A House for lions that open for his 'other band' Tired Pony in the US. Check out their EP, it's gorgeous!

7. I don't like the voice at all. Once you get past that though, its actually a nice song.

It's Mr Johnny Cash with a cover of Nine inch nails. This song breaks my heart, Cash's voice is so haunting...

The Flo indeed :) Sorry for the crappy-crap recording but she only sang it once at a party opening so the sound is not as good as a proper thing.

9. Captain by Biffy Clyro. I got to hear this when they were supporting Muse and this song is still great.

Mon the Biffy!

10. Reminds me of Brandon Flowers, the way he sings. It's not though. I don't really like it, not really my kind of song. Sorry.

It's Noah and the Whale :) Again, I wouldn't have compared Charlie's voice with Brandons but...XD It's from their new album that I adore! Upbeat!

11. Some awesome guitar bit at the start. Not a huge fan of the voice but its an alright song.

The guitar belongs to Johnny Marr. It's The Smiths baby!

12. Female harmonising… in a different language. For that reason it doesn't grab me really. sorry.

It's a french song from a new band (or female duo) called Brigitte. The song title is called (translated) "Vengeance of a female wolf". About a girl very protective about her man, the lyrics are quite funny.

13. Intro - the xx. I recently bought this EP on vinyl. Its is truly an eargasm.

Eargasm indeed.

14. Cool piano through the song. Religious overtones. Okay song. Nice build up.

James Vincent McMorrow, discovered this guy recently, his album is just out here in France. Haven't heard him on the radio though....

15. Last track. Funny kind of song. Nice way to end the tape.

Paolo Nutini with a little track from his last album, I love the 'irishy' sound of it.

Overall, the tape flowed very well and was cohesive. I suspect it was made by a female. Interested to see what the tracklisting is. Thanks heaps for the tape.

Thx for listening!
