Hi burningmonk, nice to "meet" you :nice:

Thank you very much for all these explanations, I couldn't have expected better :wacky:

I will definitely check out all these artists! I'm really impressed because as I said some tracks really sound older than they actually are :o

In fact I already listened to a Frightened Rabbit song during the last mixtape exchanges I think, that's why it sounded familiar!

And I agree with you about The Tallest Man On Earth, you're absolutely right!

I think I'll have lots of things to ask you, if you're OK with that obviously

Thanks again for your tape, it really introduced me to some new artists and kinds of music, that's all I was expecting :wacky:

I really felt like you enjoyed making it and took this "seriously" so maybe that's why I connected with it as you said :)

^I like the look of that!

Oh yeah, you can!

Ok, here is my review!!!

Track 1 - Really nice opening. It's very chill...kind of a tropical vibe (maybe it's just me!). I love when the electronic instrumental bit kicks in halfway through. A little on the long side, but a good song.

Track 2 - I really liked this one. The band sounds familiar, but I just can't put my finger on it. I like the cool African safari kind of feel. The lyrics "a pig has to lay in its piss" made me laugh :P (At least I think that's what he said!)

Track 3 - This one is alright, but I'm not a huge fan. It was very monotone the whole way through in that it didn't change keys or have a definite chorus or anything. It sounded like a folk song or ballad? I don't know what he's saying, but I would guess that he's telling a story of some sort?

Track 4 - I feel like I've heard this before. Maybe on a tv show or in a movie. The singer's voice sounds very familiar, I think I've probably heard the band before. I really like the beat, and the tune is quite catchy. I like the guitar solo and the chorus especially. Good pick!

Track 5 - The singer has a nice voice and the instrumentals are pretty. I like it.

Track 6 - The lyrics intrigued me. But is he saying "whistle" or "pistol" or both? Either way, good lyrics. I really loved the tune, and it was really nice when it kicked in towards the end.

Track 7 - Love it! Gorgeous instrumentals, catchy beat. Great lyrics too. I was tapping my toes the whole time. :)

Track 8 - Super catchy beat. The lyrics are cute too, awwe.

Track 9 - Very pretty instrumental piece. Lovely guitar. A nice break to transition to the next half of the tape.

Track 10 - Start off normal enough...but wow, when it hit 1 minute! Love it! So haunting, I love the layering of everything. I'm interested to know who sings this.

Track 11 - I feel like this song could be a very dramatic ballroom dance of some sort. :P Ooooh I LOVE LOVE LOVE the trombone. Ahhh!

Track 12 - Very mellow, nice lyrics. Love the strings.

Track 13 - Hmm, kind of the fence with the song. I don't mind it, but I don't think I would listen to it on its own; it seems better suited as background music. Not bad though.

Track 14 - Very chill. I like her voice. I am interested to see who this is because she sounds very familiar.

Track 15 - I really like this one. Good lyrics and very catchy. Definitely going to keep this one!

Track 16 - Great song. Again, I liked the lyrics and the tune.

Track 17 - Lovely piano in this one. Very simple song, but I really like it.

Track 18 - The beat is cool, but I'm not really a huge fan of the song overall. Maybe after a few more listens it will grow on me.

Track 19 -Didn't like it much at first, but I really liked it by half way through when it hit that haunting forte bit. Fantastic.

Track 20 - :laugh3: Ok, this is definitely from a musical. Possibly a movie. I feel like I should know what it is from but I don't! Nice closer, haha!

Great tape overall, I really enjoyed listening to it and will definitely be keeping the majority of the songs. Thank you :) I can't wait to see the tracklisting!

I will post my review tomorrow, sorry for the lateness!

First, like a few of us, I'd like to apologize for taking such a long time to review my tape. I'm usually quicker but I've been quite busy lately plus I started reviewing it and then accidentally closed my browser half way through it so I was too lazy to restart everything right away hehe…

1- Funny introduction. Sounds highly like the soundtrack of a movie. A good way to wake me up and announce ''now get ready for a crazy mixtape'' ahah

2- A very Empire of the Sun-ish track though it's a little more retro and the voice is that of a woman (which makes me like it more than Empire of the Sun). I like it, plus it's ultra catchy. I love the quiet ''drum'' part a 1:15, I'll definitely keep this song in my head for a while. ''ee-yeah ee-yeah ee-yeah ee-yeah'' :D

3- Simple beat, goes lighter as the track begins with the keyboard. Female voice again. I like the lyrics also I'm very sorry to confess the music reminds me of the opening of the French cartoon of ''Sonic the Edgehog''. Sounds ridiculous, I know, but I can prove it, and it prevents me from enjoying this track ahah. However, there's something a bit Florence & The Machine-ish in her ''ooh-OOh-ooh-ooh'' at the end, which is quite pleasant.

4- Gorillaz - Dare. One of my friend here being a huge Damon Albarn fan I thought I knew who you were when I first listened to the tape, though the other songs do not fit this person's taste ahah :D

Anyway I actually like this track even if I'm not too much into Mr Albarn's work so... nice to here it again. Fits well with the mixtape (and this spring weather hehe), getting electronic & lighter...

This track sums up quite well the spirit of the tape imo: you just DARE hehe.

Also, is that a remix? Cause my player keeps on cutting the song, I don't know if it's normal or not...

5- Still this electronic beat, your mixtape is very coherent. I'm not fond of this track as it gets a slightly bit too ''nightclub'' at one point (too many repetitions).

6- Still electronic track starting with catchy beats. I prefer this one, plus there's guitar. It's more Gorillaz-ish, very pleasant, instrumental. I loved the crescendo-like end of the track.

7- Powerful beat. Very entertaining instrumental & electronic track (again). I got scared it’d became boring when I realised it’d be mainly electronic tracks but I was very stupid to think so, at least it keeps you awake and it’s sometimes quite cool, like this track.

8- Again, same kind of track, I even found myself taping the beat.

9- Voices are back, distorted. I don’t like this one too much, a bit Linkin Park-ish. It’s more rock though, and I like that. The title’s probably ‘‘change has come’’ ahah.

Totally reminds me of the only Prodigy track I know actually.

10- Guitar!!! It’s rock & electro, instrumental, again I think that could be Prodigy-ishas well. I enjoyed this one, the ‘‘clapping part’’ is very catchy.

11- Enjoyed the beginning again, it gets more and more rock towards the end of your tape. That’s the kind of rock from the USA I usually dislike and don’t listen to, but I must confess I don’t know it that much so I’m discovering... I guess it’s bands like Slipknot / Nine Inch Nails, they’re all a bit too hard or punk for me. Anyway that’s not a bad track.

12- The voice surprised me in a mixtape centred on electric which evolves towards rock. It’s softer, there’s something ‘poppy’ in it which appears for the first time in the tape. I’m not too into this voice…

13- Trumpets (?) at the beginning, turns a bit ‘jazzy’ & still electronic, softer end of the mixtape. It’s totally ‘‘ambient track’’, lyrics are pretty simple and the first line sums up the spirit of the track: ‘’we found the paradise in the flower’s bloom’’.

14- The beginning of the track brings me back to nightclubs (ok I never go to nightclub but that’s the music I imagine being played over there). I’m not into it and the catchy ‘‘chorus’’ (can we call that a chorus? ‘‘ooh, ah, ooh-ah’’) confirms it’s not the kind of song I can enjoy.

15- I thought it’d be a remix of Chasing Cars at first, but it’s not. Keyboard, sounds quite old fashioned in a way so it must be from an old band trying to reproduce it’s original sound or something like that. Anyway, to sum up the song: synthesizer ahah.

16- Last track appears very solemn, great way to close a mixtape, even moving at one point. Must come from a soundtrack? I like it a lot!

Starting a mixtape with instrumental tracks is something I like doing a lot as well, so I think that’s a pretty good choice.

Overall I think that mixtape was very well done. There’s a logical evolution throughout the tape, everything flows quite well (except maybe from 2 surprising tracks towards the end which were softer than the rest of the songs).

I like discovering new style of music I usually do not listen to – and that’s why I do not give the link to my lastfm account – so this mixtape is quite satisfying in this way.

Even if I disliked some songs, I think it was a pretty good work and really enjoyed broadening my knowledge of music styles.

Thank you!

Massive Attack - Bulletproof Love

I'm not meaning to intrude, Greg, but I'm pretty sure that song's called "Flat of the Blade."

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii will not review mine for a little while longer k? :*

Sorry to whoever made my tape that it took me so long to review! Anyway here it is:

Yay for a good review! My last mixtape got a really lame review... so this is great!

Let's get started shall we?

Track 1- A really nice and relaxing opener to the mixtape. I’d say it sounds along par of Mumford & Sons—so maybe Fleet Foxes? It’s a little bit like the new-wave folk music which I’ve been meaning to check out and never really got around to— so this is definitely the shove in the right direction. I really like the vibe that the song is giving off; it makes me think of summer spent lazing in fields. Got to check out more of whomever this is.

Fleet Foxes! Correct! White Winter Hymnal, off Fleet Foxes. My personal fav!

Track 2- I really love this track, like proper love it. The electronic/synthed style of the song is really cool and the contrast it has with his voice and lyrics is just stunning. The two opposing dynamics work really well and gives the track this really surreal feel. It reminds me heavily of Apparatjik—maybe it is and I’ve missed a release!?

You must have, as this is indeed Apparatjik. One Less Thing To Worry About, We Are Here Extended Edition. I think it might be Mags singing, actually...

Track 3- The Strokes ‘Under Cover of Darkness’—so much yes! I’ve had the album since release day and can’t emphasise how much everyone should definitely, definitely listen to it. ‘Angles’ is fantastic, as if most of their back-catalogue. And they’re just getting back in to their live game—so you have to be in on it.

BEST SONG OFF THE ALBUM. More people should know about it! I was waiting for it the day it came out too. Excellent song, excellent album.

Track 4- The singer(s) have really nice enough voices. But I’ve never been a massive female singer fan unless there is a driving force behind the song… And the beat in this isn’t really pushing it along so this feels a little tame to me. If they do have a song that has more of that—I would most definitely consider re-listening and give them more of a chance.

The Dance, Charlotte Martin, Stromata. One of the more interesting songs. If you listen to more of her, I recommend the song Cars on Crescent. It's instrumental, and well worth the listen.

Track 5- At first I thought I had the same issue as above with this track. But I warm to the track it once the drum-beat kicks in during the chorus. And I definitely appreciate the guitars on it too. It feels really heavy and dramatic—it totally gives me the vibe that it should belong in a movie soundtrack.

This is The Audreys. They're an Australian group, but their stuff is really strong and beat-y. The song is called Songbird, if you didn't guess. It's off the album When The Flood Comes. Listen to the rest of it, it's exquisite. I write lots of fanfictions, so songs like this are very inspirational while I'm writing!

Track 6- I thought for a bit that it was going to be a proper jazz instrumental. Imagine my surprise when it turns out not at all to be like that… It’s very much ska with what I guess you can tab as latino influences in there. It reminds me of Madness which is totally equitable to my childhood which is probably why it makes me smile a whole lot.

Another Australian group, called The Cat Empire (very ska!), song called The Chariot. This is off their first album that came out in 2001. The lead singer has a very Latin voice, so I know where you're coming from. I'm going to see them live in a few weeks. I'm really pumped!

Track 7- A class follow up to that is definitely Empire of the Sun ‘We are the people’. No idea how I, literally, stumbled across these guys (I have the feeling it has a link to Miami Horror) but they are definitely another one of those bands not enough people know about. Basically they are summer and sunshine—with really nice rhythms and they just sound completely fresh and different.

I have a fair idea where you got it from.

In this interview Guy says it is his favourite song (at that moment). I agree! They are very understated in the rest of the world. In Australia they're pretty big though...

Track 8- Wow. It’s blues—now there’s a genre I’ve never ventured into before! And it’s surprised me that actually I am able to listen to it (heh, I am a genre snob). I really like the acoustic guitar in this; it feels sort of melancholic without being too over the top about it. The piano parts of it also feel right and suited at the time.

Blind Willie McTell by Bob Dylan. Surprised? Probably not. His voice is very distinctive. This is my favourite song by him. Incredible.

Track 9- Here we have an instrumental interlude. It reminds me quite a bit of when Nine Inch Nails went instrumental (minus the overwhelming grunginess). I can’t decide what instruments it has in it at all—but I think part of the charm in this is if you don’t analyse it too much. When I close my eyes my mind definitely sort of makes this a chase/hunt scene—because it has the pace and the ‘building up’ that creates that atmosphere. The only downside to the track is that I don’t have the following track—so in my minds’ eye I never know how it concludes because we just cut out!

Brian Eno, Flint March, off Small Craft On A Milk Sea, featuring Jon Hopkins. Need I say any more?

Track 10- The piano and strings in this track are the things that stand out most to me because they really help to emphasise the tone that the song is going for. The singer’s voice is beautiful and subtle and the lyrics are just heart wrenchingly beautiful.

I'm glad you like this song! It's Ry Cumming, Harder To Say. He's not very well known, so there you go.

Track 11- My immediate thought of this track is that it reminds me a lot of Travis, which is a good thing. It’s a very multi-layered track that, on every listen, offers me something different to focus in on. There’s guitars, drums, piano, the lead singer and then there are some choral moments in it. It works together really well.

 It is Travis! Pipe Dreams, off The Invisible Band. They sound so much like Coldplay, especially in this song. Love it!

Track 12- I would say this is U2. Not a song that I know of theirs—but I definitely recognise Bono’s voice. I have so much appreciation for this band unlike anything else and I still aim to see them live one day. This song, unfortunately, takes a little long to get going so I don’t know whether I’d be able to listen to it on my iPod without fast-forwarding the super long intro.

U2, Moment Of Surrender, off No Line On The Horizon. Personally, I think it's their best song. At first I was like just get going already! But I listened to it a few times and now it's my favourite song by them. Give it another go, listen to it right the way through again. But I guess it's not everybody's cup of tea.

Track 13- A nice finishing track, sort of feel like it lends itself well to coming full circle. I particularly like the instrumental interludes/solo/bridges—because that’s when the guitar work, piano and the woodwind really comes in to its’ own... The verses are a bit bland for me though.

Sky Blue And Black, by Jackson Browne. I love the piano in it. It's just amazing. I couldn't not use it as the final track on the mixtape.

Mixtape highlights: Track 1, 2, 10, 11

There are only two tracks I didn't particularly like; the rest I'm more than willing to go and look in to a bit more and listen to other songs. Thank you very much mixtape maker!

I'm very glad you enjoyed it! I guess there always has to be a few songs you don't like. I liked that you still pointed out the parts you liked of the ones you weren't so pleased with. It's stupid to totally dismiss a song just because you don't like something about it.

But anyways... thanks for taking the time to review the songs I chose so well. It's greatly appreciated! :wacky:

This is The Audreys. They're an Australian group, but their stuff is really strong and beat-y. The song is called Songbird, if you didn't guess. It's off the album When The Flood Comes. Listen to the rest of it, it's exquisite. I write lots of fanfictions, so songs like this are very inspirational while I'm writing![/color]

ZOMG The Audreys! I've seen them live about 4 times :D They're brilliant :)

Fleet Foxes! Correct! White Winter Hymnal, off Fleet Foxes. My personal fav!

I thought it might be. I feel terrible because I found Mumford & Sons first and was told that Fleet Foxes were very similar so never gave them the chance (although an interview in NME this week was starting to convince me I should listen before the second album comes out) so this was the shove in the right direction!

You must have, as this is indeed Apparatjik. One Less Thing To Worry About, We Are Here Extended Edition. I think it might be Mags singing, actually...

That would be why, I have the normal edition. Will have to go scoping around for other tracks. And yes, it sounds slightly different to normal it was only toward the tail end of the track did I start to think that maybe it was Apparatjik!

I think you may be very right about it being something to write to. I very much like them and the addition of you saying that they are beaty means I will most definitely be looking them up!

Another Australian group, called The Cat Empire (very ska!), song called The Chariot. This is off their first album that came out in 2001. The lead singer has a very Latin voice, so I know where you're coming from. I'm going to see them live in a few weeks. I'm really pumped!

Oh, have fun with that! From what I've heard it will be a whole heap of fun!

I have a fair idea where you got it from.

In this interview Guy says it is his favourite song (at that moment). I agree! They are very understated in the rest of the world. In Australia they're pretty big though...

Never seen that before  so I don't think it is from there. I do think it was probably when I used to use last.fm and they suggested that Empire of the Sun were similar to Miami Horror (I think that was more because they are both Australian groups rather than their sound being alike if I'm honest).

Blind Willie McTell by Bob Dylan. Surprised? Probably not. His voice is very distinctive. This is my favourite song by him. Incredible.

I am surprised actually. :stunned: I've never listened to any Dylan prior to this so... :shifty:

Brian Eno, Flint March, off Small Craft On A Milk Sea, featuring Jon Hopkins. Need I say any more?

Nope, you needn't say more. I should have guessed! Now you say it, I totally can't believe I didn't see it sooner. Eno was the Artistic Director at the Brighton Festival last year and I went to one of his exhibits which was a sound/light event and now you say it-- totally that vibe.

I'm glad you like this song! It's Ry Cumming, Harder To Say. He's not very well known, so there you go.

Brilliant! Looking up straight away! Thanks :D

 It is Travis! Pipe Dreams, off The Invisible Band. They sound so much like Coldplay, especially in this song. Love it!

:laugh3: Wow. I'm good at guessing bands but obviously my memory is not sharp enough to pick out all the songs. I guess it's because I've never heard this track before (I've always heard the 'bug' stuff, I guess).

I think it's probably because I'm used to old school U2 and haven't heard any of their newer stuff beyond radio airplay. It's not my favourite U2 track, but I will take your advice and listen again and again.

Thank you fo the time and effort you put in, it's much appreciated. And I get to take away a few new bands and tracks which is always an added bonus in any situation!

First, like a few of us, I'd like to apologize for taking such a long time to review my tape. I'm usually quicker but I've been quite busy lately plus I started reviewing it and then accidentally closed my browser half way through it so I was too lazy to restart everything right away hehe…
Hello Khalplay, I’m your mixtape maker! :D I’m really happy that you didn’t detest my mixtape, because I just went for broke and put my favourite songs into the tape, because you said you like to discover new styles of music. And how cool is that you even liked a few of them!?

1- Funny introduction. Sounds highly like the soundtrack of a movie. A good way to wake me up and announce ''now get ready for a crazy mixtape'' ahah

You are very right, it is indeed a song form a soundtrack, it’s from the SPACED series, a quite funny british comedy with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

And I intended the wake-up effect as you perfectly figured, because I didn’t want to throw some hard electronica song in your face right in the beginning!

''ee-yeah ee-yeah ee-yeah ee-yeah''

The song is called “Young Blood” by “The Naked And Famous” (a band from New Zealand), a very catchy song I heard on TV and thought you might like.

HAHAH oh dear, contretemps! I never watched that show because I always hated it, but okay, I wanted to make that “happy”-vibe going on and thought that song was fitting. I also know that song from a commercial on TV, it’s called “Bruises” by “Chairlift”.

4- Gorillaz - Dare. One of my friend here being a huge Damon Albarn fan I thought I knew who you were when I first listened to the tape, though the other songs do not fit this person's taste ahah

I like your thinking :sneaky: Yep, I just went for it, I saw that song and thought it would fit well into the mixtape because of the strong beat and just the style of it.

Uh, no it’s not a remix :uhoh: Maybe your player has problems with the codings or something? I dunno :uhoh2:

6- Still electronic track starting with catchy beats. I prefer this one, plus there's guitar. It's more Gorillaz-ish, very pleasant, instrumental. I loved the crescendo-like end of the track.

Yay I’m happy that you like this track! It’s called “Lex” from the Band “Ratatat” (isn’t that band name already epic? :laugh3:), they make kind of indie-pop/rock electro music, and if you like this song you should listen to their album “Classics”, it has quite a lot cool songs on it!

7- Powerful beat. Very entertaining instrumental & electronic track (again). I got scared it’d became boring when I realised it’d be mainly electronic tracks but I was very stupid to think so, at least it keeps you awake and it’s sometimes quite cool, like this track.

It’s an instrumental piece from the Band “Linkin Park” called “Session”. Tehe yes I feared that you would just put my mixtape in the trash bin because of all the electronic stuff on it, so I decided to better put some other genres into it as well :sweatdrop: I like this song because it has a rather dark feeling going on and makes me think… whatever lol.

8- Again, same kind of track, I even found myself taping the beat.
It’s actually a soundtrack from one of my favourite PC games called Half-Life 2 :awesome:

/nerd

I thought the electronic and guitar parts fitted well into the vibe of the mixtape.

9- Voices are back, distorted. I don’t like this one too much, a bit Linkin Park-ish. It’s more rock though, and I like that. The title’s probably ‘‘change has come’’ ahah.

Totally reminds me of the only Prodigy track I know actually.

Hehe no the title is “Momma Sed” Actually this is a remix, and the original song is from a band called "Puscifer".

10- Guitar!!! It’s rock & electro, instrumental, again I think that could be Prodigy-ishas well. I enjoyed this one, the ‘‘clapping part’’ is very catchy.

I’m surprised you like this one! I thought it might be a little too aggressive :uhoh: It’s the song “Animus Vox” by “The Glith Mob”, a band that makes IMO totally badass electronic music! You should listen to their album “Drink The Sea” because it’s full of such songs :wacky:

11- Enjoyed the beginning again, it gets more and more rock towards the end of your tape. That’s the kind of rock from the USA I usually dislike and don’t listen to, but I must confess I don’t know it that much so I’m discovering... I guess it’s bands like Slipknot / Nine Inch Nails, they’re all a bit too hard or punk for me. Anyway that’s not a bad track.

You’re right! It’s from Nine Inch Nails, called “The Hand That Feeds”. I thought it might be the time for some change on this mixtape ^^

That’s also a soundtrack from an Anima called “Wolf’s Rain”. I wanted the mixtape to get a little quieter towards the end.

! Great description, haha! It’s from Apparatjik called “Combat Disco Music”, so you’re kinda right about the “nightclub” feeling :P

must be from an old band trying to reproduce it’s original sound or something like that. Anyway, to sum up the song: synthesizer ahah.
Damn you’re good! It’s from A-ha called “Real Meaning”. And they’re definitely trying to reproduce their original sound haha!

16- Last track appears very solemn, great way to close a mixtape, even moving at one point. Must come from a soundtrack? I like it a lot!

The song comes from a British electronic music group called "Hybrid", the string instruments in this piece are all done on the Computer as far as I know. The song is an Edit of the original song of the band called "Finished Symphony". I thought the name of the song was quite fitting for ending the mixtape :)

So, and here’s the tracklist:

1. Fantastic Plastic Machine - Theme of Luxury

2. The Naked And Famous - Young Blood

3. Chairlift - Bruises

4. Gorillaz - Dare

5. Lacquer - Behind

6. Ratatat - Le

7. Linkin Park - Session

8. Valve - Sector Sweep

9. Puscifer - Momma Sed (Tandimonium Mix)

10. The Glitch Mob - Animus Vox

11. Nine Inch Nails - The Hand That Feeds

12. Brian Eno - This

13. Wolf's Rain OST - Strangers (feat. Raj Ramayya)

The song is called “Young Blood” by “The Naked And Famous” (a band from New Zealand), a very catchy song I heard on TV and thought you might like.

i give up

fuck

FUCK

I really really really fucking hate that band. it's ridiculous how THEY have to be the ones getting all of the attention overseas. there are heaps of far better bands just sitting here waiting for that kind of attention :(

oh and they told bbc they were self funded when they recieved $105,000 from New Zealand On Air (NZ taxpayers money)

oh well that does suck.....they've got the song in an ad of a famous german music channel.....one of the reasons why it got a lot of attention over here.....and I am sure many teens like this song, too esp. since it is spring/ almost summer

finally...here is my review:nice:

1st: This must be the National. I'm not into the National at all, but I think I know that song....what is it called „Fake empire“? (I figured that out through the lyrics....could be totally wrong though)...I am not even sure if this is the National, but his voice sounds like what I know from the National...haha nevermind....nice song not the stuff that I usually listen to.

2nd: awww summerish intro:cheesy: I am sure that this is Beirut. I am not into the band too much either...I really like their style, because they use so many different instruments (like brass yay), but there is something about them that disturbs me pretty easily after listening to them for a while....it is good to have a song by them on this mixtape though:)

3rd: nice intro again. Argh I know that voice. I like the instrumental parts of this with the strings....sounds kinda „Balkan“ like haha...

4th: the intro sounds like Vampire Weekend. Ok the vocals sound like Vampire Weekend, too....is this Vampire Weekend? I like the trumpets, but I don't like these Vampire Weekend (-like) fairground organs sounding bits in between. Doesn't have to do anything with the song, but with some personal stuff

5th: Yayyyy this must be Win Butler singing. Ahhh and now Regine joining him. I don't know this song, but this must be Arcade Fire....Niiice song, my favourite on this mixtape so far

6th: Ok this is getting boring...no no no not the tape, but I didn't know any of these songs so far, but after the first seconds I had the impression I knew the band and either I really knew it or I just had the impression, but couldn't figure out who it was....just like this one....I know this band (the vocals sound familiar)....the song is ok....doesn't do much to me

7th: oooh what's this? Me likes! Nice vocals (sound familiar ahhhh)....forget what I said about the Arcade Fire song before....this must be my favourite of this mixtape:awesome:

I like the guitar and the organ....is this Cloud Control? If this is Cloud Control I should consider getting into them more. I had one of their songs in one of my listening parties. I've been listening to sooo many different bands recently which must be the reason why all these songs/vocals/styles sound so familiar to me....

8th: ...or do I think those songs sound familiar, because they are all of the same style/genre?

This one is ok

9th: Yes I know this voice.

10th: Is this Mumford and sons? I might be mixing up something here....good choice for the end of this mixtape.....edit: No this isn't Mumford and sons

Ok, so it was nice to listen to this in a row. Usually I don't listen to this stuff (like the National for example)....the weather is really nice outside and this music is appropriate for summer I think.

Thank you to whoever made my mixtape

(I have a clue who made it:

rudy:uhoh:

)

This is Arms & Sleepers, a band that Mike got me interested in. Glad you liked it

Their album definitely deserves a listen.

This is the song I debated most with, choosing between the remix and the original. I went for the remix which may have backfired haha, but I wanted some Beck and some Boards Of Canada, and this is Beck remixed by Boards of Canada haha, so I got them both in one track. I do prefer this version so I don't know if you will like the original any more, although Mike much prefers it.

I listened to the original but the remix actually makes it more interesting. :surprised:

This is The Chemical Brothers with 'Asleep From Day'. The guest vocalist is Hope Sandoval, who also sang Massive Attack's Paradise Circus on their latest album.

I like her vocals.

I went for this after looking at your LastFm and seeing that you had listened to quite a lot of Elbow. This is Massive Attack with the lead singer of Elbow providing the vocals. This was one I didn't know if you would like, but I'm glad you didn't hate it haha.

I actually haven't listened to Elbow that much at all. :blank:

I knew there'd be one that still had the information on. Sorry! Yes, it's Patrick Watson, introduced to me by Alice on the board. I like that song a lot.

Don't worry, it was the only track! I'm not sure how many songs on my mixtape still have some info left.

This is Echo Lake with their song Sunday Evening. I only found this a week or two ago but it was from their EP last year, which has 3 or 4 great songs on, and a couple that don't do anything for me. I'm looking forward to an album release!

Thanks to you I'm now looking forward to it too!

This is Apparat and his song 'Wooden'. Only found this recently, I really like when the vocals kick in. I fell in love with that song while watching a video of it, so I don't know what it's like to listen first time without the visuals haha.

Maybe I should check the video. :surprised:

This is a live version they did for iTunes in Soho. Search deerhunter live soho and you'll find the rest of the songs they did

I'll check that out. :wacky:

This is Beta Band again haha. I thought I'd put them in twice to see if you recognised them. They remind me a little of Elbow, except I don't like Elbow but I like these, since they have more layers and I find them interesting.

I had no idea it was the same band!

The sadly deceased Sparklehorse with It's A Wonderful Life. I really like that song and the lyric you quoted is one of my favourite bits!

Lovely! I need to listen to this album some time.

.

to my mixtape maker!

im in some small town i Sardinia at the moment and i only have a really slow internet conection at a shitty internet cafe so i wont be able to post my review for a week or so:(

i got the mixtape though and im listening to it on my ipod at this very moment:)

Ok, here is my review!!!

That was quick. Ehr, ok, hi I'm William and I made your mixtape :)

Track 1 - Really nice opening. It's very chill...kind of a tropical vibe (maybe it's just me!). I love when the electronic instrumental bit kicks in halfway through. A little on the long side, but a good song.

Yep, it's just you. Elbow - The Birds. I was actually gonna make it longer by adding the Reprise at the beginning, but thought it may be too much. Really strong song.

Track 2 - I really liked this one. The band sounds familiar, but I just can't put my finger on it. I like the cool African safari kind of feel. The lyrics "a pig has to lay in its piss" made me laugh :P (At least I think that's what he said!)

That's my favorite part :P Sam Beam or Iron & Wine's Rabbit Will Run.

Track 3 - This one is alright, but I'm not a huge fan. It was very monotone the whole way through in that it didn't change keys or have a definite chorus or anything. It sounded like a folk song or ballad? I don't know what he's saying, but I would guess that he's telling a story of some sort?

Swedish classic, The Ballad of Fredrik Åkare and the Sweet Cecilia Lind, by one of the world's greatest troubadours Cornelis Vreeswijk. He's got a wonderful way of writing, though it's in Swedish. Basically the song is about an older man and a younger girl, dancing a late night. At the end he sings "Fredrik is old but love is blind"

From 1966.

Track 4 - I feel like I've heard this before. Maybe on a tv show or in a movie. The singer's voice sounds very familiar, I think I've probably heard the band before. I really like the beat, and the tune is quite catchy. I like the guitar solo and the chorus especially. Good pick!

Not much for guitar solos but I love this one. Band Of Horses - Compliments.

Track 5 - The singer has a nice voice and the instrumentals are pretty. I like it.

Bones by Emily Barker and The Red Clay Halo. She's pretty unknown.

Track 6 - The lyrics intrigued me. But is he saying "whistle" or "pistol" or both? Either way, good lyrics. I really loved the tune, and it was really nice when it kicked in towards the end.

Both. MGMT - I Found A Whistle. Based on what you said you listened to you should look into these guys.

Track 7 - Love it! Gorgeous instrumentals, catchy beat. Great lyrics too. I was tapping my toes the whole time. :)

Scottish rockers Frightened Rabbit - Old Old Fashioned.

Track 8 - Super catchy beat. The lyrics are cute too, awwe
.

Not always the case with E, you should hear some of his older stuff. Eels - Spectacular Girl

Track 9 - Very pretty instrumental piece. Lovely guitar. A nice break to transition to the next half of the tape.

Their album doesn't come out until May so see this as a preview :D Fleet Foxes - The Cascades.

Track 10 - Start off normal enough...but wow, when it hit 1 minute! Love it! So haunting, I love the layering of everything. I'm interested to know who sings this.

This is by Norwegian artist Susanne Sundfør. Her album The Brothel is probably one of the best things to come out of Norway but it didn't make it big abroad. You should definitely check her out.

Track 11 - I feel like this song could be a very dramatic ballroom dance of some sort. :P Ooooh I LOVE LOVE LOVE the trombone. Ahhh!

Just discovered these guys. Great fun, The World/Inferno Friendship Society - Thirteen Years Without Peter King

Track 12 - Very mellow, nice lyrics. Love the strings.

The Mountain Goats - Age Of Kings

Track 13 - Hmm, kind of the fence with the song. I don't mind it, but I don't think I would listen to it on its own; it seems better suited as background music. Not bad though.

I was gonna be brave and use this to introduce you to Radiohead. Didn't quite work out I guess. Suggest you listen to No Surprises or Creep, though.

Radiohead - Go To Sleep (Little Man Being Erased) off Hail To The Thief.

Track 14 - Very chill. I like her voice. I am interested to see who this is because she sounds very familiar.

A group of Los Angeles girls called WarPaint. Really talented, their album came out last year but this is from their EP. The song is called Billie Holiday.

Track 15 - I really like this one. Good lyrics and very catchy. Definitely going to keep this one!

You like Frightened Rabbit! Nothing Like You.

Track 16 - Great song. Again, I liked the lyrics and the tune.

The Pineapple Thief - The State We're In

Track 17 - Lovely piano in this one. Very simple song, but I really like it.

Elbow - The River. I regret a bit not putting on a more easily accessible song. Suggest you listen to One Day Like This or Grounds For Divorce ;)

Track 18 - The beat is cool, but I'm not really a huge fan of the song overall. Maybe after a few more listens it will grow on me.

Put it on cause I've been listening to it a lot since it came out last week. Can see why you wouldn't like it. Radiohad - The Butcher.

Track 19 -Didn't like it much at first, but I really liked it by half way through when it hit that haunting forte bit. Fantastic.

Was a bit surprised that you didn't know them. The Arcade Fire - My Body Is A Cage.

Track 20 - :laugh3: Ok, this is definitely from a musical. Possibly a movie. I feel like I should know what it is from but I don't! Nice closer, haha!

Either you're being very polite or you didn't pay attention, haha. This is a joke.

Great tape overall, I really enjoyed listening to it and will definitely be keeping the majority of the songs. Thank you :) I can't wait to see the tracklisting!

Thanks :)

I can only offer my apologies for the lateness of review, it'll be with you tomorrow. I haven't been able to check the thread to see who's come forward to tracklist their playlists, but unless this person has posted I have a feeling I know who mine is :p

SORRY

Oh yeah, you can!

Sure, I'd be happy to answer anything you like :nice:

Also, if you need any help finding some of the more "obscure" music, let me know!

I'm really glad you enjoyed the tape, it feels good when something you worked on is appreciated so much :cheesy:

I'm listening to my mixtape right now and really loving it!

Review will be up later!!
