okay so TAKE TWO I suppose.

Track A: No Cars Go - Arcade Fire. What can I say, great way to start off anything. I used to be really obsessed with this song (actually, the whole album) :wacky:

Track B: For some reason, I feel like I've heard this song before, maybe I heard it on Pandora or something. I dunno who or what it is at all, but I like it, specially the chorus. Very catchy, upbeat, and so on. The three times I've heard it I've been bouncing around each time.

Track C: Another catchy/upbeat song. I like the guitar, but the lyrics are a little banal. Not sure if I'm very into this song. It isn't bad, it just doesn't do much for me.

Track D: I really like this track. I'm singing along by my third listen to it, haha. I really like whatever jangly stringed instrument is going throughout it (I can't tell if it's high-pitched guitar playing or something more unorthodox.). Nice little song. I like the lyrics to this one better, I guess they're a little corny-ish-ish out of context maybe? but they go with the song well.

Track E: A lot more downbeat than the preceding few. I suppose D was more of a transition to this kind of mood. Not much going on with the instrumentation, so as far as that goes it isn't too interesting, but it's calmer than the others and fairly nice to listen to. Also, the simpleness of the instrumentation fit the song well, because it seems to me to be pretty contemplative ("I get lost in my mind..." and so on).

Track F: Ah, minor-key piano. That and all the reverb on the guitar make this really dark/creepy at the beginning. I think I kind of dislike this song. The guy's vocals kind of bother me, they're sort of whiny and shouty at the same time. The piano is a little simple to say the least, it's basically just plucking out minor chords, which gets old after a whole song (then again it's serving a rhythm function, not a melody function... but I still got bored of it, lol). Don't care for this one too much.

Track G: Forget whatever dark/slow mood was going on earlier. Poppy song, the guy's voice sounds slightly autotuned. (the backing oh-whoah-whoahs definitely are, but I'm not entirely sure about the lead's.) Cute lyrics, cute song. Not sure if how into it I am.

Track H: Soldier On - The Temper Trap :awesome: Great band, great song. Kinda confusing coming after the song it did as far as emotional flow goes (I'd've put it after track F, but whatever). I really like this song, I mean I did before, but yeah. Good choice for a mixtape.

Track I: Loving this track. I'm sure it's Elbow, because I recognize Guy Garvey's voice (it's pree distinctive, lulz) but I haven't heard it before. I really need to listen to more Elbow (I only have one album), so maybe I'll get whatever album this is off of. Really purty sawng. Elbow is just so good. :wacky: Class act, them Elbows. Definitely a keeper.

Track J: Another good track, and we're back to catchy/upbeat and so on. I like this a lot. There's nothing in particular about this song that stands out as being the best or most interesting or whatever, but I just like it anyway. I'm iffy like that, I guess.

Track K: This guy's fuckin' up everything. :surprised: I can sympathize.

Track L: Bluesy. I dig it. I like the da-da-da-das a lot.

Track M: FICTIONIST SMDLHGSSLHKG. Before I'm Old. I really like Fictionist, cuz they're really good. Yeah. :wacky:

Good tape! I'm gonna be keeping most of it, I think. Thanks a lot! I'm eager to see who made it.

Also, whatever artwork you put with all the tracks is really gorgeous! I wanna know where it's from. I googled "albadevera" (the word in the upper-left), but no hits really, so I dunno what it is.

DO WANT.

Dear mixtape maker,

I listened to your impressive mix once and wrote a few words about it. But I really need to listen to it again to make a proper review and as I'm exhausted right now I'll probably do that tomorrow night, hopefully :nice:

Great job for the reviews everybody, you all made me want to listen to your mixtapes :D

Ok, gonna post my review now, I wouldn't normally review so quick as I like to take a few days to listen but I think I'll be offline over the Easter weekend and I want to get the tracklist back before then :)

First off, to whoever made this tape, I'd like to say thanks for renaming everything properly; I think this is the first mixtape I've received where I've not been spoilered by accidently catching a glimpse of the odd artist name or artwork as I've unzipped it. I've listened to this completeyl 'blind' and spoiler free, so thanks for that. I know it's petty, but it is much more fun when you don't get spoiled imo. Cute little artwork btw.

1 - Nice little classical track. Reminds me of Postcards From Far Away or that other little piano piece that Chris played sometimes on the Viva tours, I forget the name. I'm not much into classical music, can you tell? ;) Not something I'd choose to listen to, but it's lovely tho, quite cute and soothing.

2 - The guy's vocal is a bit drone-y and sounds bit familiar but I have no idea why. The track is nice, I like the acoustic guitar and the strings. I like it when the piano comes in cos it needs that change to stop it being too dull. I like the lyrics. It reminds me of The National, but I dunno why cos I don't know them all that well :\

3 - Short track, almost missed it. Nondescript little instumental piece, pretty but nothing interesting to say about it

4 - I like the beginning to this, I was in need of some electric guitar. I like the lyrics in this, they're interesting. There's elements of Mumford and sons and Snow Patrol in here, but in a good way. It's good this, I like.

5 - Arcade Fire? Must be. I do like Win Butler's vocal style, he's very soothing. I'm gonna guess this is off the new album. I have listened to it a couple of times, but I couldn't put names to tracks, if you know what I mean. This is one of their nicer songs, I quite like this one, not as dull as some of their other stuff. I like the way it fades out.

6 - Nice beginning, another instrumental perhaps? Oh ok, horns now...bit odd. Now the singing comes in; he loves his dog and his pussy cat...ummm o-kay that's nice for him. This is weird. Now it's all gone a bit 1920's tea dance, should I start doing the charleston? Not my cup of tea this, it's too bizarre, but bold choice, I applaud your adventurism.

7 - Another short interlude. Again sweet, but not very exciting.

8 - Acoustic again, starts a little dull but then it picks up. Progresses well, I like the handclaps about 3/4 of the way thru and then when it proper rocks out at the end. It's alright, this one, I've got nothing bad to say about it, but it's not really great either.

9 - Synths now, nice change. Not a big fan of the generic drum machine beat, but it works I guess. Vocalist reminds me of Jonas Bjerre or the Owl City fella. I like the electric guitar in this, but it's a bit subdued overall, it could do with being more....well, just more.

10 - Oooooooh I love this song & love this version too. I'm pretty sure I heard this one before I heard the original. In fact this might well be the reason why I went out and bought the Bends. I know Thom Yorke hates this song (their version, tho he prob hates this one too, the miserable bastard), but I love it, so screw him. haha. The vocal is beautiful on this and the piano as well, it's a good example of a really good cover, cos it's more of an reinterpretation than a straighforward cover. Good choice. High & Dry - Jamie Cullum

11 - Girl singer. Decent vocal, I often find female vocalist quite annoying, but this is alright. I like the lyrics; "I'll be the one to break my heart" ...hmm know how she feels. This is sweet & kooky - I can almost hear the Kate Bush influence.

12 - Another acoustic-y one. S'ok, this one. Again I like the handclaps, makes it more interesting than it otherwise could be. The vocal and the lyrics are a bit uninspiring tho. I like the bit at the end, is it meant to be a part of this song, cos it sounds nothing like the rest of it. It mirrors the first track, sounding a bit Coldplay-like so it bookends the mixtape rather nicely.

Overall, a nice/good tape. The tracks all worked well together and had a good flow. There wasn't anything I hated, which is always a good thing. But it was somewhat all of a muchness tho, some of the tracks were a bit too similar in style for anything to really stand out for me. I really found myself craving a bit of dirty electric guitar or something that felt like it had a little bit of energy to it. But that's probably just my tastes. This mix would make a good chillout tape, something to lie out in the sun with on a summer's day :) Good job 7.5/10

Hello :)

First of all, I apologise to make you upload twice :disappointed: Please, don't blame me, blame Chinese government who blocked megaupload.... please :embarrassed:

That's no problem at all, I understand, I reuploaded it as soon as I could ;)

And here's the review.

1. An interesting intro. Sounds like a new wave 80's track. Although I thought it was Temper Trap at the first milliseconds

French rock band from the 80s, that track is the opening of one album from 2002 though, they just tried to reproduce an old sound of theirs. Thought it was fun starting this way.

2. Is this Tina Turner??? If so, I LOVE YOU!

Yes that's her. The story is: I changed half of my mixtape after stalking you cause I realise I needed to include these kind of voices. I thus put this track here just for you in case you'd like it instead of the electronic beginning of the tape I had planned. Seems that was a good choice...

3. I love this, it has this 70's vibe with a slight Nashville air. The vocalist voice is so sensual and effortless. Love the brass, composed and arranged thoughtfully. Although it's a bit on the longer side, quite unusual for this kind of music.

True. This is a Bob Dylan cover from Cat Power, comes from the soundtrack of I'm Not There, a movie about Dylan. 60s/70s indeed, you're so good at identifying music, I'm impressed I wouldn't be able to do that.

4. Still in the same area with track 3, but this one is much more 90's that just make it sound so much better. The lyric is very interesting. And who the hell is Leroy?

Exactly, 1988. That's Michelle shocked. I chose this song cause it flew well in the tape and I love it cause I'm used to hearing it: Bob Dylan and Shocked are the kind or artists my dad likes hehe. Also I have no idea who Leroy is: someone close to the person writing a letter in the song. I guess Shocked belongs to this kind of artists who are story tellers :)

5. Sweet Child O' Mine, that was easy. And it's Sherryl Crow, the cover which I think is better than original. I think I love you mixtape maker :wacky:

Thanks dear partner :D I love this cover too but I think pure GN'R fans would dislike this ''better than original'' comment. Luckily, I'm not and I kinda agree ahah... long live female voices :P

6. A slight departure from the pervious 3 songs. Very interesting. The vocal and guitar signals that this is a power rocker from 80's. But the whole arrangement says otherwise. Wow, he wails, is it Axl? Way to go arranging your tracks :laugh3: All in all it's a cool song, with modern vibe surrounding a slightly dated lineage.

Yeah that's Axl, Sheryl was my transition to leave the ''retro'' part of the tape. Your description of the track is perfect, that's from the last GN'R album which is poppy compared to the ''old power rockers'' the original band used to be.

7. French! I don't know how to put my finger on this. It is deffinitely interesting. The vocal is eccentric. But the arrangement, with all those violins and stuff combined with drum machine, I'm just not a fan. If only the drum machine go. For the love of my non existant dog, use real percussions.

Sorry about that, I highly wanted to put this track in there cause the lyrics are fascinating. I knew that being paired with a foreigner would thus turn this choice into a mistake as you wouldn't enjoy this wonderful dialogue at the end of the track between a 'witch' and an 'inquisitor'. The whole track tells the story of this witch captured by the inquisitor and, as they argue, her beauty serves as a spell and he lets her go. On live, the singer adopts different voices to play the witch and the inquisitor, I love this.

8. French again. The music reminds me of other song, which I didn't like. But it works swell here. I'm like listening to world music here (which I like).

Yep violins again, that was my ''discover French music'' moment :D 2 tracks are enough cause I actually dislike French music.

9. Intiguing intro. Mew like. Again another departure of style, but this one is a huge leap. When he sang "Animals we are...." I was... wait, what? But no it's not a cover to a Coldplay song. This song is certainly much more "sane" for this forum lol. I like the song. They fooled me, made me think that they're Mew, twice, but they're not.

Disposable collapsible and raw... hehe

Animal Kingdom, loved them and discovered them during a previous mixtape exchange!

10. Oooooh, I wish that crazy piano continues. Oh, it does. I love it. Oh, the chord progression is ubercool. I LOVE IT. The drums, against my preference for this kind of song, but it just works!!! Eerie without going slo-mo. LOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVE

Oh well, French band called AaRON, they sing in English. I loved their first album but disliked the second, then I saw them live a few weeks ago and I started to like a few tracks like this one. I invite you to discover their 2 albums ''birds in the storm'' and ''artificial animals riding on neverland''

11. Go Your Own Way, again it was easy. Cranberries? So much Dolores in it. Or maybe just Dolores? One of the best cover I've ever heard. Maybe the best. I love covers!! :)

And I love the Cranberries, and Dolores, and Fleetwood Mac, and this cover, especially live, especially in the Live in Paris 99 (DVD Beneah The Skin). I'll stop talking about it cause I'm such a fan I would write a book :D

12. Bjork-ish intro. Not really... damn you, guitar! I was hoping that this is a Bjork song I've never heard :D. Just when I'm content with this being an instrumental, vocal kicked in. Not quirky enough, IMO. I really like it better without vocals.

It'll sound weird but I'm not such a fan of this artist nor this song, I was just looking for a song which could enable me to introduce the following track (I had to end my mixtape with this one when I saw your tastes) and and I thought you'd like this artist so... I picked it up randomly.

13. Sounds soooooooo familiar. A little bit of Moby in the intro. But, again, it's not him. I LOVE this song. It bothers me that I feel like I've heard it before. Is it a cover or something. TELL ME PLEASE!!! Or, no, maybe I haven't heard this before. Way to close a mixtape. Though if you put #10 as a closing track, I'm gonna kill myself lol

Heard in Kill Bill vol.2 :D Chose it cause was the perfect final track and I thought it would fit your tastes!

Do you know me? Somehow you put many songs with female vocal, songs with strings and brass, adult contemporary and retro sounds, all hits really close to my liking. And that Tina Turner song... :faint:

Highligts: #2 and #10

Well I just had a look at the previous mixtape exchange to get an idea of your tastes... AND I tried to keep it short as you requested ;)

Also a message to my mixtape maker: I downloaded it, gave it a quick listen and will probably listen to it again tomorrow and write my review.

Haha Violet, you're too good! Just curious, was it only the Little Comets song that gave me away?

Here's my review for my tape. I'm going to try to be as concise as possible, as I know I have a bad habit of ranting as I type.

Ranting is fine by me...

1. I know this one! It's "Zorbing" by Stornoway. :cheesy: These guys are just cute; I love them! There's not much more to say about this one. Nice choice! :nice:

Hehe, aren't they great? I wish I'd discovered them earlier!

2. The beginning is very vague and electronic, before it bursts into this guitar riff. I wasn't a fan of the voice initially, but it has definitely grown on me. It's an acquired taste. THESE GUITARS. THEY'RE SO CATCHY. :bomb: I can't help but move around in my chair as I listen to this song. The voice reminded me slightly of Julian Casablancas, but the more I listen to this, I don't think it's The Strokes. I'm really curious to find out who this is.

Oh, but it IS The Strokes! It's called "Machu Picchu" and is the first track from their new album "Angles". Personally I love the whole album and there are heaps of other equally as catchy songs on it :wacky:

3. The guitars at the beginning are slightly off-putting, but that's just due to personal taste. They're a bit too pitch-bendy for me. The song is a lot better when that stops and the vocals come in. The more this track goes, the better it gets. I love the string work on this one. This song, I find, is very summery, but it's not too surf-rock. The balance is nice.

"Weekend" by Smith Westerns. I think it's a pretty fun track.

4. Oh, God. I've tried to be more tolerant of this voice, but I just can't do it. This reminds me of The Tallest Man on Earth in the sense that while the music itself is quite good, I can't listen to it because the vocalist is atrocious, especially after he uses the vocoder or whatever it is near the end. That's honestly the only thing wrong with it, though. I'm actually somewhat picky with vocalists, anyway, if you couldn't tell by my earlier comments. "The sun's so clichéd, just like love and pain." I like that lyric an awful lot.

Hahahaha, oops. I thought this was one of the most tolerable/easily accessible songs on the album, hence why I put it on here. Duly noted :P

5. I know this song, too! It's "Shake Me Down" by Cage the Elephant. This is one of the better songs off their album "Thank You, Happy Birthday." I'm not sure how I feel about that album as a whole yet, but thanks to your reminder, I'll definitely give it some more time. The vocalist reminds me a lot of Arctic Monkeys on this song, for whatever reason.

I saw you liked Cage the Elephant and thought you might appreciate hearing a song of theirs on here :wacky:. I haven't heard any of their older stuff, though.

6. This has a distinct drum beat at the beginning, and the guitar entrance completes the introduction of the song. It's interesting to hear male AND female vocals on this song. They actually work rather well together. This is kinda like a hybrid between The XX and Arcade Fire. I don't know. It makes sense in my head. I like this number quite a bit.

"Future Starts Slow" by the Kills. Personally my favourite song on the album (Blood Pressures), namely because of said drumbeat.

7. Ahhhhh! "Land of the Bloody Unknown" by The Middle East. Niiiiice. :cheesy: I just happened to get this album recently. This song is amazing. It has the most tasteful amount of banjo in it. I'm glad you put this one on here. :D

:awesome: I was hoping you hadn't listened to the new Middle East album by the time you got this but hey, at least you like it!

8. The intro is quite cute, with the guitar and whatnot. This makes me happy. This one has female vocals. This song reminds me slightly of a Grace Potter and the Nocturnals song I once heard on TV. Would this happen to be that group? If not, that's cool; I usually have at least a couple of things I like to guess on when it comes to these things. The only thing that bothered me was that pitch bend near the end, right before it returns to the chorus. That didn't make a lot of sense. I like this song a lot.

This is a cover of Tame Impala's track "Solitude is Bliss" by Mark Ronson & The Business Intl, recorded for an Australian radio station (which explains why the recording may not sound quite right). This version is good, but the original is stunning so make sure you check it out! And just check out the whole album while you're at it.. :P

9. This has an ethereal, calm beginning. However, it suddenly erupts into this wall of sound, and it's nice. The vocalist fits it pleasantly well with the music. This reminds me of Cut Copy, but it has extra punch that Cut Copy doesn't have. This song makes me wanna dance so bad. Oh well, why not? The piano in the latter half of the song is splendid. I really only have two words to sum this up: Thank you.

Glad you liked this one! "Lions in Cages" by Wolf Gang, it's had quite a bit of airplay over here lately and I love it.

10. "Ahhh-oooooooh!" :laugh4: That part makes me smile. This track is somewhat like the previous one, but not really; it lacks the power of the previous track, and it seems much more like a dance number to me. It's like if you took Track 9 and Cut Copy together, you might get something like that. I'm not really sure. I don't like it as much as the previous one, but that's only because I love Track 9 that much. This one is quite the track, too.

"Live Those Days Tonight" by Friendly Fires. This is the first song they've released from their upcoming record. If you don't mind it I'd highly recommend checking out their self-titled debut album, it's great :awesome: Personally, I much prefer them to Cut Copy.

11. This song is killing me. Why, you ask? I SWEAR TO GOD I'VE HEARD THIS SONG BEFORE, BUT I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT IT IS. ARGH. I hate it when that happens. This is by an artist that I've either only started listening to recently or have only heard a few songs from. I'm not sure which, BECAUSE I CAN'T REMEMBER. :disappointed: I'm only mad that I don't remember because I like this song. If I hated it, I'd just say, "Ew, no" and be done with it. I need to know what this is.

YES! When you recognised "Zorbing" I was sure you'd recognise this one too, seeing as it's by the same band... "The Coldharbour Road" by Stornoway. This and Zorbing are standout tracks for me, I'm completely in love with the strings on this one.

12. This has pizzicato strings at the beginning, which set the mood. That mood is reinforced by bells (or are they vibes? I can't tell.). This song is so cuuuuute! The lyrics, the music-everything. It's so precious. I like this one a lot, too. "I think I'm fallin, I think I'm fah-ahhhllin'." Awwwww, it has whistling. I need to know who is responsible for the preciousness.

Hehe, isn't it cute? It's "Lost in the Moment" by a Daniel Lee Kendall. I first heard this one on the radio here. If you like his stuff, the only other stuff that I'm aware of that you could get your hands on is here.

13. O RLY? This is an orchestral rendition of "Isles" by Little Comets. I didn't even know this existed. I actually like this better than the original version. The only issue I have is the slight tuning issues in the string section, but that's to be expected with strings, anyway. I learned through String Methods how hard those instruments are to play. I'm not judging. Nice choice.

I thought you might like this one :nice:

14. The beginning is electronic noise; it reminds me slightly of Animal Collective or something. The guitar comes in, and it's still slightly better. I like the song better when that part drops off and it's just guitar with the occasional "whoosh"-ing of the synths or whatever those are. I felt like there were a bit too much of those for my taste, but that's not a big deal. The vocals are OK; they're not bad, and they fit the mood of the song, so that works. I love the trumpet/sax solos in it. I didn't expect the female vocals, but it was a pleasant edition. I felt like the ending was a bit weird, but oh well. Generally speaking, I like this song.

"Chinatown" by Destroyer. I though it was a nice relaxed number to starting winding down the mixtape.

15. I recognize this one as well. It's "Stuck on the Puzzle" by Alex Turner, from his Submarine EP. There's something about this song that makes him sound better. I'm not sure. I love the line, "Something in your magnetism must have pissed them off." :wacky:

Yep, I love this EP. Alex Turner

Overally, I enjoyed this tape. The only one I really didn't like was Track #4. I can't wait to get the tracklisting for this.

Oh, and I'm going to try to guess who my mixtape maker was. There's only one person in this exchange who I know for sure likes Little Comets so...

Grace?

Got it in one!

AWESOME. I'm so glad you liked it! I'll admit I was a wary when I got you, I immediately had to cut my mixtape playlist in half when I found out because I knew you knew a lot of my music already :P

But I really enjoyed making a mixtape for you and I'm glad there weren't too many songs on there that you recognised. And, by the way, the constant updates you posted about your music taste etc were great for me!

I want to listen to this mixtape :blank:

Do iiiiiiiiit :P

Also, to my mixtape maker, please be patient with me. I want to do a give the review a decent go, and I have exams at the moment

So here's my review! And excuse me please for any grammar mistakes, I haven't written such a long English text in the last few months

1.

Nice speric intro, that jumps right into some nice rock/pop-ish style with a strong male voice. Violins, piano, strong guitar riffs and funky bass, very powerful first song, it has a rather good feeling going on. Towards the end a long instrumental part comes, I believe there are even some trumpets blowing, I like it!

2.

Yeah! Easygoing guitar and a soft, soothing male voice. Nice background singers! Oooohohoho, lalalaaaa-lalalaalaaa, nice song for humming along :D The song ends in a nice build up instrumental made of the lalalaas and guitars, drums and a nice bass. Nice!

3.

Weeee electronica! The beeping sounds remind me of old computers. And there’s even a glockenspiel! Then a strong beat comes in, pumps up the whole song! Nice change from the first two songs. And the electronic elements in this song, together with the groovy guitars and the fresh singer’s voice makes this song VERY likeable! *bops head to the song*

4.

Organ intro, rough male voice, rattle, strong drums and soft guitars, background singers and bass humming along, mixed with clapping, holy POOP I like this song very much! It gets really epic towards the middle where all the instruments play at once, then calms down for a few seconds and gets back all epic again, wonderful. Truly wonderful! I need to know who’s the artist behind this piece!!

5.

Huh, the singer sounds a wee bit like the singer from Elbow! But not as rough though. Strong drums and beat, the song has a somewhat mystical vibe going on, because there are strange noises in the background, and the lyrics “I'm lost and found at the base of a river”don’t help either  The piano sounds great, together with the spheric/electronic sounds and the reverberant background singer voice. I also want to know more about this artist.

6.

Drums and funky bass with a cool sounding guitar, a fresh change from the previous song. The voice is also fitting really well to the pace. This piece is really fast and makes me want to move!

7.

27 seconds long instrumental jingle, okay now comes a change, I’m excited!

8.

HOLY CRAP I got scared the first second! XD Female singer screamed into my ears, ow. But I excepted this, the calm instrumental warned me of a change! Well done, mixtape maker, hahah! Anyway this songs is fast, rough, funky, dirty, kinky and ends in a crazy mix of all instruments used in this song. And now I wanna dance with somebody dammit! *swings arms around and howls along with the background singers*

9.

Calm steady drums and again a female voice, but not as aggressive as in the previous song. To be honest I’m quite happy with this easygoing song, I need some rest after that… musical assault! :laugh3: Nice piece for moving your head along. I believe I also hear some organ in the background. Oh have I already said that I love organs? Okay, I LOVE THEM. The song ends with a high pitched guitar in the background, nice touch!

10.

Elbow singer sounding voice again! And violins :wacky: And female background singers, and claps! Whoop! Ha, and even electro elements, interesting song. It also has a very interesting rhythm going on, and lots of changes in the “flow”. Stops at one time, then starts again with other instruments, stops again but continues singing, cool! The song has a nice long instrumental part towards the end, brilliant!

11.

Guitars and somewhat accusingly male voice, mixed with a strong bass. The song stays like this the whole time, and to be honest I find it a little bit boring :shy:

12.

Atmospheric intro, yay! And an acoustic guitar with a strong thumping drum in the background. The voice of the singer also fits perfectly to the instruments. The female background singer adds a nice feeling to the song, too. It kind of has the same epic impact as the fourth song of this tape, only a little bit sadder. And the harp sounds nice, too.

13.

Guitars again with groovy singer and steady drums and some instrument that kind of sounds like an organ but I’m sure it’s not! A rather sad sounding song, and a little bit melancholic but still somehow nice to listen too.

14.

Oooh many soft instruments and bright/clear male singing voice. A refreshing song for an amazing, ending mixtape, I don’t want it to end yet! :bigcry: Anyway, this is a perfect choice for an ending song, it’s calm and somewhat sad, but closing.

So, my dear dear mixtape maker, thank you for putting all these amazing songs into my tape, you got my musical taste almost spot on, I didn’t think that was possible! You did a wonderful job in ordering the songs the way they are, from chilly and easygoing to BAM-right-in-your-face  I’m very happy to listen to only new songs and such epic ones as well. I can’t wait to get your setlist!! :bomb: Again, THANK YOU, you did so well!

My review will be tomorrow. Listening to the rest now and then review tomorrow.

I really like the way my mixtape is set out. Great artwork and good thinking with the reminder and all in one track. I think I must have a seasoned mixtaper!

I gotta say that's a classy lookin' sig/avatar you got there ma'am.

If you mean me, I appreciate your comment very much :)

Haha Violet, you're too good! Just curious, was it only the Little Comets song that gave me away?

Do iiiiiiiiit :P

Actually, there was something about the feel of the tape in general that I couldn't help by feel was from you. The Middle East was helpful in that regard as well.

HOW THE HELL DID I MISS STORNOWAY LIKE THAT? I feel stupid. :embarrassed: To be fair, when I first listened to your tape, it was late at night, and I never did think to do any double-checking. This just comes to show that Stornoway are definitely a LOT better than I even thought they were.

Dude, new Friendly Fires single? SCHWEET. I have their album. I didn't know there was new material out. Thanks! :D

Well, you've given me some things to look more into. I'm defintiely looking more into Wolf Gang. That song is ace! Thank you so much for the excellent tape.

What? x_x

:wreck: I'm sorry. I wasn't meaning to offend you. Like I said, it made sense in my head. :embarrassed:

okay so TAKE TWO I suppose.

Track A: No Cars Go - Arcade Fire. What can I say, great way to start off anything. I used to be really obsessed with this song (actually, the whole album) :wacky:

Got to love Arcade Fire! I thought this was a good get things going song.

Track B: For some reason, I feel like I've heard this song before, maybe I heard it on Pandora or something. I dunno who or what it is at all, but I like it, specially the chorus. Very catchy, upbeat, and so on. The three times I've heard it I've been bouncing around each time.

I have the same reaction to this song, The band is Foster the People and the song is pumped up kicks. You might have heard them on pandora, they are starting to get radio time in California and they just had a set at Austin City Limits

Track C: Another catchy/upbeat song. I like the guitar, but the lyrics are a little banal. Not sure if I'm very into this song. It isn't bad, it just doesn't do much for me.

It's all good, this is an indie band from Sweden called Shout out Louds and the song is Show me something new, and this is probably one of the only songs I really like from them ;)[/i]

I totally get the corny-ish aspect! Yet I find the song very addicting to listen to ;) The band is Imagine Dragons and the song is It's Time

This is on my 'relax and sleep' playlist :P but yeah the idea was to kind of calm things down after the first couple of tracks. The band is The Head and the Heart, they are from Washington.

This was my gamble track, I wasn't sure how you would feel, and yes it does get very repetitive after awhile! The band is Civil Twilight and the song is Letters from the Sky

Actually I don't know if you have heard of the band called Until June, but this is the lead singers solo project and that is actually his voice! But yeah the backing for sure is. So the song is Heartloss and the band/singer 'name' is Moderne Man

Track H: Soldier On - The Temper Trap :awesome: Great band, great song. Kinda confusing coming after the song it did as far as emotional flow goes (I'd've put it after track F, but whatever). I really like this song, I mean I did before, but yeah. Good choice for a mixtape.

Love the Temper Trap! They are a great band for sure!

Elbow indeed! This is my favorite track off their new album! It's called With Love, you should for sure give the album a listen thou!

Track J: Another good track, and we're back to catchy/upbeat and so on. I like this a lot. There's nothing in particular about this song that stands out as being the best or most interesting or whatever, but I just like it anyway. I'm iffy like that, I guess.

Iffy or not it's all good! So this is the Joy Formidable and the song is called Whirring. I am in the same boat, there really is nothing super special about the song. I just like it. Plus I felt like I needed a female on here somewhere ;)

Track K: This guy's fuckin' up everything. :surprised: I can sympathize.

Yup that about sums up the song haha, band is called Fences and the song is Girls with Accents

Track L: Bluesy. I dig it. I like the da-da-da-das a lot.

Can't go wrong with The Black Keys! Howlin' For you is a great song, and is for sure always playing in my car!

Track M: FICTIONIST SMDLHGSSLHKG. Before I'm Old. I really like Fictionist, cuz they're really good. Yeah. :wacky:

This is crazy that you know who the Fictionist are! I thought I was throwing a band on here that nobody would know, but surprise surprise! They come up to my college and play free gigs all the time! Seriously great band to listen to live for sure!

As for the artwork, I think I got it off flickr. So maybe try typing that into flickr to see if it comes up. :)

No Cars Go: Arcade Fire

Pumped Up Kicks: Foster the People

Show Me Something New: Shout Out Louds

It's Time: Imagine Dragons

Oh for my person, let me listen to the mixtape a few more time and then I will post my review :)

Fictionist!

I created a thread about them. One of my online friends from Utah told me about them... they're great!

Actually, there was something about the feel of the tape in general that I couldn't help by feel was from you. The Middle East was helpful in that regard as well.

Haha, oh yeah, Middle East :p

Oh noooo, so I'm becoming predictable? :wreck:

Haha, don't feel stupid  If you haven't already, you should give the album another listen.

I just remembered that technically the FF song isn't actually a single, I kinda just got my hands on it 'cause I'm... tricky... :P The album's due out in May :awesome:

Wolf Gang are also meant to be releasing their debut later this year I think.

And that's OK, thank YOU for the excellent review!

So here's my review! And excuse me please for any grammar mistakes' date=' I haven't written such a long English text in the last few months [/quote']

So' date=' my dear dear mixtape maker, thank you for putting all these amazing songs into my tape, you got my musical taste almost spot on, I didn’t think that was possible! You did a wonderful job in ordering the songs the way they are, from chilly and easygoing to BAM-right-in-your-face  I’m very happy to listen to only new songs and such epic ones as well. I can’t wait to get your setlist!! :bomb: Again, THANK YOU, you did so well![/quote']

Wow, I never thought my tape would be this well received  I'm grinning like an idiot here, thanks for the lovely kind words, and I'm really glad you liked it. Your English is perfect Thalia btw, no need to worry.

I didn't really know where to start with your musical tastes tbh, all I knew for sure that we had in common was Apparatjik, so I guess that determined a few of the more electronic-y choices. A lot of the track were picked for their lyrics and instrumentation, in the past I've over-done the rock/electric guiatrs on mixtapes and this time I wanted to tone it down a bit and introduce some other instrumentation whilst still keeping things a litle rocky.

Side A:

I picked this song specifically for it's intro so I'm glad you spotted that. I could have chosen anything off this album tbh as it's all good. They're called Hey Rosetta!, a Canadian six-piece that specialise in this sort of high energy rock with strings, brass, everything really.

2.

Yeah! Easygoing guitar and a soft, soothing male voice. Nice background singers! Oooohohoho, lalalaaaa-lalalaalaaa, nice song for humming along :D The song ends in a nice build up instrumental made of the lalalaas and guitars, drums and a nice bass. Nice!

I guess it is quite easy going, I'd not thought of it like that before. I really like this song for the lyrics "It's not that I don't trust her, it's just her cups of tea, I think she's messing round, I think it's L.S.D" haha The song's about him tripping after someone's spiked his cuppa. A slightly old school Liverpool band called Shack

This was picked for the Apparatjik connection. I like this song, it's nice and upbeat but there's others on the album that I like better. The album is quite a mixed bag, it's not all this electronic. This is Andy Burrows, Razorlight's old drummer, who has since gone solo under the name I Am Arrows. He played everything on the album himself apparently. It's impressive stuff.

Aw I'm glad you like this one, it's one of my fave songs at the moment. This is Kassidy, a fairly new Scottish guitar band. Quite literally "guitar band" as in there's four of 'em and they all play guitar. They have epic beards too, I dunno why that's relevant. If you liked this, you should check out their debut album, Hope St, it's very very good.

I'm in love with this guy at the moment, musically speaking. I'd not thought of him sounding like Guy Garvey tho, I guess he does a bit. I worried that you'd find it a bit dull and over-long, but I saw this guy at a festival last summer not knowing anything about him and came away with this song in my head, so it must have struck a chord with me somewhere. This guy is called Steve Mason, he used to be in a band called The Beta Band (in fact I used one their songs too, Track 10)

6.

Drums and funky bass with a cool sounding guitar, a fresh change from the previous song. The voice is also fitting really well to the pace. This piece is really fast and makes me want to move!

The Crookes. Another fairly new band. I think they're from Sheffield or somewhere like that. They do this really 50/60s inspired rock really well but they also sound a bit like The Smiths. I've seen them live twice now, and they are really energetic. I love the lyrics in this track.

7.

27 seconds long instrumental jingle, okay now comes a change, I’m excited!

hehe Yeah, I needed a little short bit of quiet to close Side A and make the opener of Side B really stand out.... I guess it did the trick ;) This is one of Mew's intermezzos off No More Stories

Side B:

haha Bit mental huh? This is a collaboration by Paloma Faith, Graham Coxon from Blur and Bill Ryder-Jones, The Coral's old guitarist and it was written specially for Converse, like an advertising campaign thingie. It is rather dirty/kinky, I love it. Free download too.

Actually it's not a girl, it's Alex Turner from the Arctic Monkeys, going solo to soundtrack a movie called Submarine. I'm not a big Arctic Monkeys fan, but I do like the Last Shadow Puppets so I got this ep on a whim really. This is the best song on it. I really like the lyrics "Something in your magnetism must have pissed them off" He has a great way with words.

Yeah, Steve Mason again but it's The Beta Band this time from 2004. They were a very experimental band and did like to play around with rhythm and timestops and stuff. Again, it's the lyrics that get me on this track, they are very evocative. "I try to do my own thing, but the trouble with your own thing is you end up on your own"

11.

Guitars and somewhat accusingly male voice, mixed with a strong bass. The song stays like this the whole time, and to be honest I find it a little bit boring :shy:

I was looking for something subdued and picked this kind of last minute. It's a band called Marmaduke Duke, the side project of Simon from Biffy Clyro. A little dull yes, but I just love his voice. It's pure sex.

Beautiful song, very haunting. It's the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and a lot of their stuff is a lot more Oasis-sounding, but this is far superior to the rest of it. I dunno who the girl is :\

13.

Guitars again with groovy singer and steady drums and some instrument that kind of sounds like an organ but I’m sure it’s not! A rather sad sounding song, and a little bit melancholic but still somehow nice to listen too.

The Coral. Just the best band ever to walk the face of the planet. I'm a tiny wee bit obsessed with them ;) I picked this one cos the dual vocals sound lovely together - James, the main singer, has a voice that's quite rough and gravelly and Lee is more melodic. Melancholic but beautiful, but all thier stuff is different, they're the most diverse and varied band that I know, I can't praise them enough.

14.

Oooh many soft instruments and bright/clear male singing voice. A refreshing song for an amazing, ending mixtape, I don’t want it to end yet! :bigcry: Anyway, this is a perfect choice for an ending song, it’s calm and somewhat sad, but closing.

The latest single from another of my fave bands, Goldheart Assembly. It's really pretty with the harp and everything. This one's a free download too.

Phew. Thanks for reviewing so quickly, I'll be offline for the weekend so I was really hoping you'd post before then  Thnkas for enjoying it so much :)

Oh snap. hahaha Alex Turner. *high five*

And I just might have to download this for the Tame Impala cover....:inquisitive:

If you mean me, I appreciate your comment very much :)

haha, yes I did. (:

(stupid quote function doesn't quote quotes) (i'm totes responding to the part about fictionist)

yeah I was totally crazy-fied! really surprised, and pleased too. They're starting to get more coverage though I think, pretty sure they were in Rolling Stone a while ago.

Fictionist!

I created a thread about them. One of my online friends from Utah told me about them... they're great!

yeah I think I actually first heard them by downloading one of your tapes! Crazy world :)
