Does a band's most recent album determine if you see them on tour or not?

I guess my idea for this thread comes from the fact there are quite a few people who don't seem to like the new single. Even if you don't like the new single or the other new songs, will you still try to see them live?

Example, with U2, although No Line on the Horizon isn't a favourite of mine, I will end up seeing 3 shows from them supporting that album.

While I wasn't a big fan of Viva, I travelled halfway across the continent to see them play in Dallas.

If/when they do their next big world tour I will probably try to see them even if I don't care for the new songs (although I have no concrete opinion on them yet).

How about you? If a band you love releases a bad album will you avoid them until they tour in support of an album you do like?

I still want to see them live, they are making a great live show from what I saw yesterday, even with that crappy song that I won't name. I'm even thinking about going to Brazil if they don't come here this year

Same happened to me with U2, I'm not a fan of their lastest album but I went to see them anyway because their show is very good.

I would still go but I do love the new stuff I have heard so far.

I did not like Radiohead's last record but would still go see them. Most likely more than once because I love their other stuff so much and maybe the new stuff would be better live. If not, beer run time is always needed during shows.

:p

For me, no, a band's latest album doesn't determine whether I go to the concert or not. While bands usually play the most songs from their latest album on a tour, it is still worth going to see their old stuff (if you really love it). And most of the time I find that live performances are better than studio versions because there is more energy, little tweaks to the song, etc. Nothing compares to live shows!

As I've said before, when I first heard VLVODAAHF I despised it, chucked the CD on my car floor and didn't listen to it again until March 2009. I purchased tickets to the concert, and then I started listening to it because I thought I'd at least familiarize myself with the songs. So I planned on seeing Coldplay even though I didn't care for LP4, although I eventually grew to like much of it (not all).

I couldn't agree more. "Live" is where it's at, and Coldplay are fantastic live. That's why I'm going to resist the urge to listen to any of the new songs (except for ETIAW) until I see them live next month.;)

I think i'd go to see them even if i don't like their new album just because I want to listen the old songs live. I think U2 will come here this year and i'll go see them even if i'm not a big fan of their new stuff.

This is a really great question! I would take into account how extensive of a back catalog the band had before their last album. For example a band like U2 has so much great music that even though you might not have liked the last album you know you are still going to hear a lot of songs you love at the show. On the other hand if a band only has one or two albums before they lose you then it might not be worth it to go.

Again… very interesting question man!
