Six months later...

Featured Replies

How are people still feeling about their end of year lists for 2010. Is Kanye still the most amazing thing you have ever heard? Does Team Dream still rate as one of the most beautiful things from last year? What albums have gotten better since then, what one have failed to hold onto whatever made them special six months ago? Are there any albums that you still haven't got around to listening to yet?

Discuss.

A lot of the stuff I was really into last year has gotten worse, or at least more boring... Kanye got more boring for me (still a good album but yeah). Still kinda-regularly listen to Teen Dream and Innerspeaker (Innerspeaker is actually a great album for studying to haha). This Is Happening is still my favorite album from that year, but I haven't listened through it in ages... I'm afraid I overlistened a lot of the stuff I really liked last year. :( Same thing happened with Plastic Beach among a few others I can't think of off the top of my head. I can't think of any specific albums I thought weren't too good last year and got better, either... :/

I like High Violet way more than I used to. The Suburbs and This Is Happening are still on the top of my list. About Kanye's album, I think I like it more now.

There's always stuff that I haven't looked into, and last year was no exception. Bryce, you actually reminded me with the Beach House reference. They're a band that I still haven't really looked into that much yet, for whatever reason.

^ You really need to look into Beach House, they're great :wacky:

HHHHNGGGGGGGG GHHNNGGGGG beach housseeeeee

I barely got into MBDTF and I love it and kanye and this record and

The National didn't really get my attention though.

not much has really changed except the gap between LCD, National and Kanye and the rest is getting bigger by the day. those 3 aren't just album of the year quality they're album of the decade quality. Sufjan's and Pallett's albums would be much higher after seeing them live. also the Parades album has quickly become one of my all time favourite australian albums. but that was already pretty high up on my list. otherwise i wouldn't change much else.

I remember my 2010 list... even since it came out in March, I knew White Hinterland's Kairos would take the prize. My three most-anticipated from the get-go were Broken Social Scene, Stars, and Arcade Fire; BSS was wonderful, it came out as #3, Stars was phenomenal and put out my favorite album of theirs to date at #2, and then Arcade Fire was great but after listening to it and hearing about it so much brought it down to #7 or something.

If anything's changed, I think I'd place Chilly Gonzales' Ivory Tower higher, that man is golden in every way.

1. White Hinterland - Kairos

2. Stars - The Five Ghosts

3. Broken Social Scene - Forgiveness Rock Record

4. Dead Child Star - Cold Hands, Warm Heart

5. Chilly Gonzales - Ivory Tower

6. Forest City Lovers - Carriage

7. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

8. The National - High Violet

9. Efterklang - Magic Chairs

10. Crystal Casltes - Crystal Castles II

And then an honorable mention to Laura Veirs, Sun Kil Moon, James Blake's many EPs, Our Broken Garden, and Broken Bells. Wild Nothing and Avi Buffalo were good too, but I don't listen to them regularly.

ohh a new member :wacky: welcome!

just found my list

2010

1. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

2. LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening

3. Jónsi - Go

4. Owen Pallett – Heartland

5. Freelance Whales - Weathervanes

6. Sufjan Stevens - The Age of ADZ

7. The National – High Violet

8. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

9. Best Coast - Crazy For You

10. The Black Keys – Brothers

Now it'd be

The Suburbs

High Violet

This Is Happening

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

I saw The National, LCD Soundsystem and Kanye live this year so maybe that's one of the reasons.

I think you are the only person on here I have seen mention Forest City Lovers! While the album isn't my favourite thing, they do have some good artists. I actually got the chance to walk around town with their lead singer Kat Burns a few weeks ago. It was pretty awesome. Plus she is cute as a button.

Then:

  1. The National - High Violet
  2. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
  3. LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening
  4. Beach House - Teen Dream
  5. Caribou - Swim
  6. The Besnard Lakes - The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night
  7. Broken Social Scene - Forgiveness Rock Record
  8. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
  9. Vampire Weekend - Contra
  10. Land of Talk - Cloak and Cipher

Now

  1. The National - High Violet
  2. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
  3. LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening
  4. Beach House - Teen Dream
  5. Caribou - Swim
  6. The Besnard Lakes - The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night
  7. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
  8. Broken Social Scene - Forgiveness Rock Record
  9. Diamond Rings - Special Affections
  10. Land of Talk - Cloak and Cipher

Kat Burns is oh-so sweet! :) I love that woman, I chat with them on twitter a lot. Haunting Moon Sinking is their best album IMO, I've got all their stuff except For The Birds EP that she released solo. Arrrgh, I'd give an arm and a leg to get a copy! :D They're hinting at a limited vinyl release of Carriage, I want it...

I almost went to go see them in Detroit last halloween after incessantly begging Kat to come here. They go and play a show at a bar, but it was 21+ and I'm not old enough! And I was ironically the one who brought them there!

Cool, yeah I told her I would buy the vinyl!

I picked up the Phodulis & Tyto single a few weeks ago when she did a solo set here. I still have to look into their older stuff. I just got into them towards the end of last year.

I've been thinking about it, and the one thing I can think to say is that I highly regret discovering Glasser this year as opposed to last year. She's goooood.

Oh, and thank you, Briggins, for reminding me that I need to get that Land of Talk album. I only have their first one.

I've been into them since a little before Carriage came out, I got the Phodilus & Tyto single (both versions better than the album's versions...) and their CDs. I recommend you get The Sun And The Wind from their store before that sells out if you haven't already, it's handmade with ink pressed on a thick-stock sleeve, one of my favorite packagings.

There's For The Birds EP, she released that one solo and it's sold out. The Sun And The Wind, Haunting Moon Sinking, and Carriage are their three albums. And then there's the single... it's all so excellent. Pirates, Beneath Rocks & Sand, and Oh The Wolves! are my three favorites.

^ I will definitely look into that. They have some cool shirts. Wanted to grab one at Halifax Pop Explosion last year but unfortunately didn't have any cash on me.

I still love High Violet as much as I did the first time I listened to it. I thought it was the perfect record and my opinion hasn't changed.

Looking at my top 10 list over again though is fairly sad for the most part. I haven't listened to most of those albums in ages, and don't want to.
